This is the end of Michael Jackson on Bemowo. The amphitheater, which wore his name for almost a decade, has just changed its name. District authorities made such a decision because of the controversy that the King of Pop has been raising in recent months.
Since 2009, in the park in Bemowo, residents could visit the amphitheater Michael Jackson. According to Radio Kolor, the district authorities have just removed the name.
The amphitheater in Górczewska Park was put into use in 2008. His designers wanted the Varsovians to have a substitute for Sydney there, so they modeled the building on this Australian one. A year after the opening of the Bemowo theater, the district board decided to give it a name. Michael Jackson. Local authorities wanted to commemorate the first and only concert of the King of Pop in Poland, which took place in 1996 at the Bemowo airport.
The district authorities said the name could be changed in March, just after the premiere of the HBO film Leaving Neverland, in which two adult men accused Jackson of sexual harassment when they were children. The film echoed widely, so it is not surprising that Bemowo did not remain unanswered. After almost four months, the decision was made - Michael Jackson disappears from Bemowo. - We decided to return to the original name - says Małgorzata Kink from the district office in an interview with Radio Kolor. He explains that the name commemorating the American star never passed the official way through the City Council, so the district board could quickly withdraw his decision from ten years ago.
From now on, the amphitheater in Bemowo will be called the "Górczewska" amphitheater. The authorities do not exclude that soon devote the building to a new patron, who will be associated with the history of the district.
