After continued fallout from the fake documentary “Leaving Neverland,” MTV is considering cutting ties with Michael Jackson’s name for its annual Video Music Awards in August.

“There’s a lot of heated discussion at the network about how to handle the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award this year, and it’s getting ugly,” a source told. “There’s talk about if they should change the name, or get rid of it altogether. [There’s also talk] about who would pre*sent it and who would accept it. It’s a mess.”

Michael Jackson’s estate denied the allegations and filed a $100 million lawsuit against HBO for violating a clause from a 1992 contract that barred the network from making “disparaging remarks” about the King of Pop. HBO countered in court docs that the contract had expired.

But months after the film aired, there are still shock waves being felt in the industry.

“MTV [potentially] banning his name is the latest fallout. They haven’t decided yet, but they’ve been going back and forth on it. There are a lot of issues,” a source said.

The award is not given annually, which could also buy MTV time.

Michael Jackson received the Vanguard Award in 1988, and MTV renamed it in his honor in 1991.

Rihanna, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Britney Spears, U2 and Jennifer Lopez (last year’s recipient) are some of the stars to have been honored under the name.

MTV announced its VMA nominees this week, with Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X topping the list. Grande and Swift lead the nominations with 10 each.

But while MTV announced Lopez as the MJ Vanguard recipient last July, ahead of the late August airdate, the network so far remains mum on whether there is a recipient this year.

MTV did not confirm or deny this yet.

I think we should remember to MTV and its staff that Michael made MTV great for almost three decades.
After his death it became everything but a "Music Television".

This is what you call propaganda created by the media to fet mtv to pull the name by planting a non excistant seed in the mindset of the public etc.

MTV better leave it alone. If they remove it again, there will be bigger problems considering the lies told in LN. I do not think no one is saying this; if so, who is the "source" who told this. leave well enuf alone and there are many artists who would love to have that award in excellence in video. MJ EARNED his name on the award and no LIARS should make it be removed. There will be an outcry if they move it.

This is mostly the media pushing this crap, as they have always done. MSM is so pissed that their agenda hasn’t worked. They are desperately trying to throw anything out, in order to see if it sticks.

Nobody watches mtv anyway. Fck them! Smh people "celebrities" need to stand up for what they know whats right

Didn't they remove his name from it before? (during the 00s or so)

I think his name has been removed and put back, a couple of times and may not have even been on the award, last year....I'd have to check on that. This is no big deal, as far as I'm concerned. The media is just trying to conjure up news and controversy where there is none, as usual.

Upon checking, it was only named the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award in 1991. Prior to that, from 1984 - 1990, it was just the Vanguard Award. In 1994 and again in 2003, it was presented as a Lifetime Achievement Award, without the Michael Jackson name on it. The media publicised it only as the Video Vanguard Award last year, when Jennifer Lopez won it; however, MTV called it the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award on Youtube. I think it's a bit hit-and-miss and depends on what the general feeling is in the industry at the time.

Saw this coming they've handed out the award for years and just called it the vanguard award, now with that "documentary" they have an excuse to remove his name. Disappointing but not surprising from the snakes at MTV

They've gone years and years without mentioning Michael's name in connection with the award on the actual award show, and the recipients not mentioning him either. Then suddenly one year it re-appears. Then the next it's gone.

Frankly the award is a joke anyway so it might actually be better if Michael wasn't associated with it.

Too late for that. MTV suck @$$ anyways for doing that and they never even show their support for him anymore like they used to. They care about trash TV.

Let's hope they will keep his name on there. we will just have to wait and see. but it wouldn't be too surprising if they do because if they did it the past then doing it now isn't so surprising. they just have an excuse to remove it now.

MTV sucks now anyways. i don't even watch the channel anymore. i stop watching MTV years now. they don't even show music videos anymore. this channel need to be rebrand or taken off the air because there's really no use for this channel anymore. it just trash tv.

To be honest with you MTV never wanted Michael. they had to push the network to add black artists to the channel at the first place. lucky one the guys who worked on the channel pushed them so hard to do it. i still thank this man to this day. Michael is apart of MTV history and his history too.

That's just sad. so it's looks like they been playing this game with mike for awhile now. i don't know what was with MTV during this time but seeing they been doing this for so long it isn't no surprise. sad to know even his name is on the award they didn't even tell him who won his award. that's disgusting. i been done with MTV for years now. them doing this won't hurt me but it will hurt them more then it is now. MTV really needs realize Michael made their channel. if wasn't for him what i read up they wouldn't never got so far.

Exactly! i always thought MTV had Michael back.

Exactly they really do. if your really friends with someone it shouldn't matter if you loose fans because you support your friend. but i guess money is more important than friendship right? ugh. like Michael said money is all roots of evil. and he's wasn't kidding with that one.

can we push MTV to cut Michael`s name out?

I think we all dont want MTV to use his name anymore for this award. Without MJ in its name the award will be so meaningless LOL

is there a hashtag already for this?

Haven't liked them since 2002 when they set him up.

You are correct. This is really no big deal because it has happened before. The media is desperate and grasping at ANYTHING to conjure up negativity because their agenda has failed.
