The 8 track player had 4 channels usually called "programs". Each program had a certain amount of songs. The songs on 8 track tapes were often in a different order from the record version. That was to fit the amount of time on each program. But in some cases a song would cut off while it's playing. It would fade out, switch to the next program and then fade back in. That was only on pre-recorded tapes. If you recorded the tape yourself, there's no fadeout, just goes to the next number, but you'd hear the click when it changed. You could also manually click to the next number. It's kind of hard to explain, so here's a few videos showing what happens.
