So we always see Michael's influence in modern music, dance, and film. We see all these guys trying to be like Mike. But I wanted to show how Michael's influence extends far beyond that. What does it look like when the biggest stars of something outside traditional performances like music, dance, & film try to emulate Michael?

Well, a really good example of that is with Shinsuke Nakamura in professional wrestling. He's an admitted hardcore fan of Michael and

Those of you who are fans of pro wrestling will know this already, but I thought MJ fam would be interested to know about Shinsuke Nakamura.

Shinsuke Nakamura is one of the big stars in pro wrestling that came up in the 2010s, and his main influence is Michael Jackson. He's Japanese, and he made his name in a company called New Japan Pro Wrestling before moving onto WWE in the US where he still is. His whole look and style, from his entrance, to the way he moves around, and the way he dresses is, even admitted by him and his closest friends as basically taken from Michael. Here's some quotes from the above:

With Michael Jackson, when he moved, it looked like a martial artist to me. He was quicker than other dancers but he didn’t have muscles; he was just quicker and looked more in control of gravity. He looked like a martial arts master so I tried to steal body movement from him; that’s why I imitate Michael Jackson a little bit.”
-Shinsuke Nakamura

Or AJ Styles, another wrestler who's one of his closest friends irl and often considered his greatest 'rival', talked about it:

“He’s a different cat. There’s no doubt about it. He’s a big Michael Jackson fan and you can see that. His performance, everything he does, he’s Michael Jackson, but he’s a heck of an athlete. He’s an MMA guy, he knows his stuff and he will kick your head off. That’s legit. He fought in mixed martial arts, so the guy knows what he’s doing, so he’s kind of a bad dude despite the fact that his stuff is Michael Jackson and that doesn’t come off as very intimidating, but it isn’t a laughing matter when he puts that boot up against your face.”

Here's some pics of Shinsuke:

You can also see MJ influences in his entrances. For example, see the way he used a silhouette here:

You can kinda see it the way he moves around and behaves here. Also his title 'King of Strong Style' which he chose because he respected MJ as the King of Pop, so he wanted to be the 'King' in his own profession. DON'T need to watch the whole thing - Nakamura's part starts at around 3:30 in this next vid:

Here's another good example where you can see how clearly Michael influenced him:

So yeah, I just wanted to share this piece of Michael's legacy. You might not care about pro wrestling, but I think it's cool that millions of people around the world are exposed to a part of Michael's legacy every month when they see Nakamura perform. He really does right by Michael and he's never stopped.

Speaking of pro wrestling, I came across this tweet a few days ago.

Apparently Michael Jackson isn't dead he's a wrestler in Brazil pic.twitter.com/BJUDh1sbGT
— ogug (@ogug8) February 22, 2020

I don't keep up with wrestling anymore but when I was watching and he showed up in NXT I immediately saw the influence in his ring attire. Great in-ring performer and him bringing his MJ love into the ring is pretty awesome. ^_^

He also talked about Michael some on Chris Jericho's podcast:

I've actually seen this guy in person (performing MJ songs and dances, not wrestling). His name is Santana Jackson and he's pretty cool.

We all know Chris Jericho is a fan of Michael himself, he even stated he went to a Dangerous Tour show in 93’. Plus he had light up jacket which is similar to Michael’s Thriller jacket from the Bad Tour.

I’m guessing Y2J’s got the idea from Michael. Though I’m disappointed he’s in that damned WWE jabbing AEW now.

Speaking Shinsuke Nakamura, he and Asuka played “Moonwalker” and Austin Creed’s UpUpDownDown YouTube channel.

Chris went to MJ one last year. Bear in mind that this was after the airing of LN, so I think he doesn't believe in that bullshit documentary.

Chris also did a cover of Dirty Diana, which is on youtube. It's clear that he is a big fan, which is great because I am a big fan of his too. He has always been one of my favourite wrestlers.

"WWE Hall Of Famers" Koko B. Ware and Junkyard Dog used this gimmick back in the 80s and their Tag Team name was P. Y. T. Express

WWE Superstar Carmella does the moonwalk as part of her entrance. Here is an example:
