SiriusXM’s exclusive Michael Jackson channel — featuring the best of the King of Pop — will give you the perfect soundtrack for dancing or rocking the night away when it launches today, July 15 at 12pm ET.

The Michael Jackson Channel will feature music from the King of Pop’s entire catalog, from The Jackson 5 to his solo hits, live performances, and Michael Jackson’s Live at Wembley concert from 1988. The channel will also air King of Pop Playlists featuring Guest DJs such as Akon and Rodney Jerkins, as well as Jackson 5 members and brothers Jackie, Marlon, and Tito playing and discussing their favorite Michael Jackson songs. The Michael Jackson Channel is voiced by journalist and author Steven Ivory whose byline has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Billboard, the Hollywood Reporter, Essence, and Vibe, among others. Ivory is a long time Jackson family friend and interviewed Michael Jackson, his sister, and brothers many times over the years. He weaves history, context, and insight around Michael’s music and the artists who influenced Michael and who were influenced by him. Ivory has also created a playlist he is calling Now More Than Ever as a soundtrack for this important moment in history.

“Michael’s music has always rallied the world to acknowledge historical anguish with songs and videos such as ‘They Don’t Really Care About Us’ and ‘Black or White,'” Ivory said. “At the same time, he aspired to unify and lead the world with inspiring anthems like ‘Heal the World’ and ‘Earth Song,’ which addressed issues that were important to him such as the care of our planet.”

The Now More Than Ever King of Pop Playlist premiers on Friday, July 17 at 7pm ET. The Michael Jackson Channel will be available on the SiriusXM app in the Pop category. Channel 50 will also become The Michael Jackson Channel from Wednesday, July 15 at 12pm ET through Tuesday, July 21.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The King of Pop is joining The Boss and Old Blue Eyes on SiriusXM satellite radio.

The month-long Michael Jackson channel was announced Wednesday by the singer's estate.

The channel will feature music from Jackson's albums and from live performances, including his 1988 concerts at London's Wembley Stadium on his Bad Tour.

Around-the-clock King of Pop programming will begin at noon Eastern. Jackson joins SiriusXM channels devoted to artists like Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra and The Beatles.

Playlists created by singer Akon, Jackson´s brothers and fellow Jackson 5 members Jackie, Marlon and Tito will also be featured.

It will also include music that influenced Jackson from artists including James Brown and Sly & the Family Stone, and artists that Jackson influenced including Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake and Usher.

Journalist and author Steven Ivory, a family friend who interviewed Jackson often, will provide the voice of the channel, telling stories, introducing discussions that chronicle the history and career of Jackson and sharing his own Jackson playlist.

Ivory said the music and message of Jackson, who died in 2009 at age 50, are especially fitting for the world in a moment of trouble and turmoil.

"Michael´s music has always rallied the world to acknowledge historical anguish in songs and videos such as `They Don´t Really Care About Us´ and `Black or White,`" Ivory said in a statement. "At the same time, he aspired to unify and lead the world with inspiring anthems like `Heal the World´ and `Earth Song´ which addressed issues that were important to him such as the care of our planet."

The channel will be available for 30 days on the SiriusXM app and streaming devices, and on the satellite radio network's channel 50 for a week.

Scooped: Michael Jackson’s Getting His Own Dedicated SiriusXM Channel, So is Bob Marley and a Bunch of Others
by Roger Friedman - July 15, 2020

https://www.showbiz411.com/2020/07/...hannel-so-is-bob-marley-and-a-bunch-of-others

A few weeks ago I told the Michael Jackson fans on Twitter that I good news coming for them. SiriusXM was working on dedicating a channel to the late King of Pop.

I knew what was happened, but I paused out of deference to Sirius, which I love. They weren’t ready, I was told through backchannels.

So of course, no good deed goes unpunished. Today they announced it. I can tell you that Sirius is doing a bunch of new dedicated channels. Bob Marley is getting one. Prince won’t be far off.

The stars who have them now are The Beatles, Elvis, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Tom Petty, the Grateful Dead, Frank Sinatra and pals. and a few others. Sirius is flexible enough to do pop up channels when they’re necessary. The artist just had to have a big enough catalog, and a management or record company willing to collaborate.

The Michael Jackson channel will be a big hit, I predict. There’s plenty of music. And if it’s handled as skillfully as the Beatles channel, there will be plenty of interviews and clips and audience interaction.

So that was my news, it’s just something nice we can all enjoy.

Sounds great! I loved listening to the Bruce channel when I was in the US.

I'm guessing it's only for a month because they'll want to see how many listeners they'll get. I hope that fans get behind this not only to enjoy his music, but to show that the audience is still strong for Michael

If Michael was here he would be writing songs to help us through this COVID 19 Pandemic.

Awesome! i'm thinking this is what Roger F was teasing a few weeks ago.

I think you’re right!

I don’t have SiriusXM, so I hope some users that do can report what they play! I’m curious to see how deep into his catalog they dive.

It’s about. damn. time!

Agreed! I picked a great time to take up their free trial offer. XD

oh. so it's for limited of time. aw. well hopefully if it does good they may keep it. nice little tribute. (y)

i heard Ben the song not too long ago. it's has free access. i'll try to put all songs i hear on here.

i heard diamonds are invincible. it seem they also playing music that's also related to michael in some kind of way. so if that's not your thing my advice is to skip those songs.

holy crap they played jackie wilson! okay so it's like they also playing music from artists that michael also looked up to. :D that's pretty awesome. (y)

Pretty cool radio station for Michael! Has some bits of trivia during the between-song bits; one of them even has a clip of Michael doing a warmup with Seth Riggs between songs.

I like that they play songs from artists that inspired Michael (Bee Gees, The O'Jays, Stevie Wonder) and artists that viewed Michael as an inspiration (Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Guns N' Roses). I have heard a few songs twice though, which makes me wonder how large the playlist really is. Not very many remixes so far which is interesting; I was expecting (and actually kind hoping for) some of the dance remixes that came out in the 90's (i.e. the Tony Moran History Lesson remix).

the songs i heard was why you wanna trip on me, blues away, and stand. i also heard a few live songs from the 1988 bad tour. i didn't realize michael looked up to so many artists like marvin gaye and the beegee's. i just learned something somewhat "new" about Michael today. (y)

Although, it shouldn't be active for a limited time. It should be a permanent channel. :)
