The general consensus is that Rod Temperton was the best songwriter for MJ but my personal favorite is Buz Kohan.
From my knowledge he only worked with Michael 3 times (gone too soon, someone in the dark and scare of the moon) but every one of those songs are fantastic and bring out Michael's very best vocals. I particularly love the arrangements in each song, simple yet haunting and incredibly emotional, pure magic between two great artists.
I initially didn't know Kohan did those 3 songs but once you know it is only logical because they all possess the same atmosphere.
