Is Liberian Girl available on CD anywhere without the ending of Speed Demon attached to the beginning of it?

I don't know about CD but the vinyl single should be without Speed Demon. The radio edit (not sure if this appears on any CDs?) is also what you're looking for.

Sort of... there is an edit version that is 6 seconds shorter; mainly cutting the intro so the Speed Demon ending isn't in there. However, you still hear it slightly, for a second, far in the background. This version appeared on the Quincy Jones compilation From Q, With Love. It also appeared on some King of Pop compilations, like the The Dutch Collection (Liberian Girl is listed as 'album version', but it's the edit version).

The Ultimate Fan Extras Collection has Liberian Girl (UK Edit) completely on its own. It's on iTunes!

Speed Demon is not in this set at all. I have not found Speed Demon anywhere completely on it's own without the opening of Liberian Girl attached to the end of it.

What was the whole point of attaching those two songs together on the BAD album? Those were the only tracks they did that to.

Taken from here: "A standard 12-inch 33 RPM vinyl record can have a playtime of roughly 22 minutes per side for a total of 44 minutes."

The first side of BAD on vinyl, which consists of Bad, The Way You Make Me Feel, Speed Demon, Liberian Girl and Just Good Friends, is around 21 minutes and 14 seconds. I guess they didn't have (or didn't come up with) a better alternative to fit the songs together on one side.

Worst case of song blending (or what ever it's called) I've seen, if I remember well, in MJ's "very extended universe", was Carole Bayer Sager's "Sometimes Late At Night" album , where MJ sings on "Just friends" ... all the songs are overlapped at the beginning and at the end with some "inter-song" music... that starts when the previous song isn't even over... so they all end with some similar piece of music...

What should the length of the song be precisely ?
On various versions of "King of Pop" compilations, "Liberian girl" is 3:53 and it's not the edit version: https://www.discogs.com/Michael-Jackson-King-Of-Pop-The-Finnish-Collection/release/4067760
(EDIT August 2021: Now tested, time report is wrong, see next post.)

As someone mentioned above, the Ducth version as the edit version so you would have to check other countries releases.)

On "Bad" second pressing LG is 3:54 and is overlapped by 5 or 6 seconds of Speed Demon. Same on 2001 version and some other version.
On Bad 2012, LG is 3:50 (there some of the sound has actually move to the end of track 3.)

So 3:53 and no Speed Demon around, I can't confirm/promise anything, but there's some hope...

I bought a very cheap German edition of King of Pop in order to check that, Discogs said 3:53, the track is actually 3:50, cut very similarly to Liberian Girl on Bad 2012.

I guess the reason why Discogs mentions 3:53 for some edition is simply that it point the database entry of the early Bad album releases for that song.

There was a limited edition Speed Demon promo during the BAD era:

It has an edited ending, cutting the last few seconds.
I guess it's a hard to find item.

In Poland, an official promo cd-r was released in 2012, claiming to contain the 'Remastered Original'. I don't know whether or not that has the first sounds of Liberian Girl at the ending.
