^^^With any era, the band doesn't really sound like anyone else, lol. There's not many acts that are really unique. The 1st album (From Genesis To Revelation) was styled to some extent to sound like the Bee Gees folky pop. But the producer overdubbed strings onto the songs that the group didn't like. It doesn't sound like any of their other material.

My relationship with this song is an extremely strange study in psychology...

It brings back really really 'de ja vu' - like - vivid memories of my childhood and my parents' relationship. It strikes such strong chords with me that I almost can't bear to listen to it.

I was young when my parents divorced and so it's amazing how at about the age of 4 to 6, I was aware enough to 1) assess and comprehend their relationship and then 2) hear this song and associate it with them.

I listen to it now and, yeah, I was spot-on with my analysis. That song just about sums it all up, and not just lyrically either. Musically, it somehow emotes the atmosphere and the vibe, paralleling the whole back and forth theme - the arguing and the "I love you, but I cannot do this anymore." thing.

I have no idea where I even heard it, it wasn't like it was played around the house or anything. (I asked my mom if she ever had this album, she said no.) I guess it was just on the radio.

The connection was strong enough that fifteen years later I still hear this song and think of them and that time in my life, moreover I can feel it, I almost re-live it.

    Weird, man.

[Sorry, that was long. and a lot... =/]

Default Peter: No plans for reunion

Peter Gabriel Says He Won’t Reunite With Genesis at Rock Hall Induction
    1/21/10, 2:47 pm EST

In two months Genesis will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but fans hoping to see Peter Gabriel sing with his former band for the first time in nearly 30 years are probably in for a disappointment. “As far as I know, I’m definitely not going to sing,” Gabriel tells Rolling Stone. “I learned at our last reunion [in 1982] that you can’t just get up there. You have to rehearse.” Gabriel is actually not even positive he’ll be able to attend the March 15th induction ceremony in New York, since he’ll be in the midst of rehearsing for a European solo tour. “I’m trying to find a way to do it,” he says. “It’s not easy. If I can work it out, I’ll go.”

Five years ago Gabriel held a meeting with the classic Genesis lineup of Phil Collins, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Steve Hackett to discuss a possible staging of their 1974 prog-rock epic The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. “Initially I was open to it,” Gabriel says. “But then it seemed to be growing. I know what it’s like once you’re in it — these things tend to expand. I always describe it as going back to school, since this was a school group for me. It’s a fun place to visit and see your old friends, but its not a place you want to live.” Might he be open to a reunion show at some point in the future? “Phil has had trouble with his wrists and his back, so it’s pretty unlikely,” he says.

The group is actually more likely to collaborate on a possible movie project, Gabriel says. “The only thing that might happen is that some people talk about a film of the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. If it is to happen, we might work together on that. We’ll see.”

For more from our interview with Peter Gabriel, including info about his upcoming solo tour and his new covers album Scratch My Back, check out the next issue of Rolling Stone, out February 3rd.

I like that Robbery, Assault and Battery video, where Phil is the robber and Steve, Tony, & Mike are the police, lol. Mike also plays the guy the Phil shoots.

^^^^^Phil had vertebrae surgery last year, so he can't do any drumming or piano playing at the moment and not likely anytime soon. No one knows if he can get in a condition to perform again. I've also heard that he has hearing problems, but a lot of veteran musicians have that.

Here's a new tune by Phil, a remake of the Motown classic.
