So I noticed that we have a lot of polls here (ethnicities, gender), and thought it would be interesting to find out what everyone does for a living (if they want to share that information) or what they are studying in school. :)

I'll start...I'm a university student...doing a Management Specialist and a French Major... but I have no specific idea of where I want to go from there.
I wanted to do so many different things as a kid -- journalism, psychology, direct films. I definitely know that I want to work in the entertainment industry (whether TV or films), and do something I'm passionate about where I get to travel once in awhile!

What about you?

I do a lot of hospital laboratory work. It's not that exciting really....you ph specimens, centrifuge them, label them up for processing, etc.
What I really want to be is a paramedic and I'm currently studying on my own in prep for my classes when I return to the US. My brother is a fireman so he sent me the EMT-B course book :) I also need to renew my caregiver grade First Aid & CPR cert. before I leave here.

I also want to be a photographer. It's not a steady, dependable job though like the medical field so it's more of a hobby.

Management degree is good...there is a lot of flexibility with a degree like that, as it can apply to so many positions. Is French a hard language to learn?

Well it depends on how well you learn any language really. It is a bit tough, but I was born and raised in France for 8 years, so I knew a bit. I forgot most of it in the last 13 years, so I am not really fluent, but it's definitely an advantage to know French when you live in Canada (as it's one of the official languages). It's pretty similar to Spanish and Italian (as they all are influenced by latin), so it made learning Spanish much easier for me!

And as for the Management degree, yes I can work in a variety of fields with the degree.. It was honestly a back-up for me since I didn't really know what to get into... I'm very interested in the film industry, so maybe I'll do some marketing work there... I know for sure that I don't want to stick with the same company for the rest of my life.. Life's too short, and would love to work in different places!

I'm currently going to school for fashion merchandising/marketing. :D

I'm not sure exactly what career path I want to take because I love sooooo many things in the fashion industry. It's so face paced and hectic which is great for me because I bore so easily and I'm always looking ahead. I'd love to work as a creative director in photoshoots and runway shows, do windows and visual merchandising for stores, work in fashion journalism, be a buyer for a major store, or work in advertising...I really REALLY would love to be a personal stylist for a celebrity client...and maybe even open my own boutique.

 I WANT TO DO IT ALL.

I'm taking a lot of summer and intersemester courses so I can graduate early and move to NYC sooner. I just want to get my foot in the door, even if it means being someone's personal latte girl for a while. hehe

That's fantastic! I totally know what you mean by wanting to do it all! There are so many things I want to do and so little time! Have you ever tried to look into internships? Those are great ways to get your foot in the door. I'll be starting my third internship in September (with BMW Canada), and although I don't think that I want to work in the automotive industry, it's a great way to get experience and meet people... Likewise, you could look for internships in places where you can network with people and gain new skills. It's a great way to add to your resume!

Yeah, internships can be really helpful. I still have to meet with my advisor and stuff this upcoming fall semester, I'm hoping I can find something over next summer maybe. It's just a little difficult to find fashion related internships where I could still live at home since Buffalo isn't exactly a fashion capitol and most are in New York or around your neck-o-the woods in Toronto. :cheeky:

It's just hard to budget time like, Do I work more hours so I won't be broke when I get out of school? Do I take more classes so I can graduate faster? or Do I try an internship so I can get more experience? And I swear, some of the required courses...they just want you to spend all your money on classes you really don't need.

I have been an actress for 15 years, working mostly in musical theatre. Been an actors agent for the last 18 months after an injury.

Just graduated in Psychology BSc. Hons.! I've noticed a few people in mjjc who are in psychology related fields.

I don't have a degree :)(, need to get my butt to college, ah that's what happens though), but I dabble in Photography. I think doing something like organizing charities would be fun, but I don't even know how to start something like that.

I'm in film school. :) I know how you guys (Wingfoot and herstory) feel, 'cause I feel like I wanna do it all too! I'm interested in so many things, but I've been passionate about filmmaking for awhile now so that's what I decided to pursue.

That's a very rewarding career. I met a few actors while I worked at a theatre. Which of your shows did you like best?

That's so awesome! And it's great that you're in LA.. Best place to be if doing filmmaking, I think!

Maybe you can get involved in some charity first, and work your way up! Maybe call up World Vision or Free the Children and see how you can get involved!

Cool, any idea where to go from there? There are so many great things you can do with psychology. It was a career path I was considering before!

J'aime la langue francaise! =) J'apprends francais depuis deux ans, mais je ne parle pas couramment.

I just loved psychology when I was in 6th form; if I had have gone to uni I would have taken Psychology and HIStory :)

At the moment I am a Transport Administrator at a company called Veolia Environmental Services, a French company. It's not what I want to do in particular but I do enjoy it for now. What I have been thinking about doing is taking night classes somewhere and get into social care :)

First and foremost I'm a mother, of my beautiful baby whom of which I take care of all by myself :D I'm also a mixologist extraordinaire (yes, bartender ha, but a damn good one!) I also go to college part time to learn hairdressing. In my spare time I like photography and dancing round to my MJ tunes. You could say I'm pretty busy! :cheeky:

I'm a secretary I think it's a very boring job and I would love to do something else but I just can't think of anything I would like to do for the rest of my life...

A week ago I've been told that my contract will end at september 1st so I'll have to find another job very fast :(

I'm still in High School, graduating next year. I'm probably taking a year off when I'm done with high school, to earn some money. Probably working till I have enough money to apply for Santa Monica College (dreamin' about ucla, but thats just not within my reach:p). There's no way, that I'm gonna stay in Holland. Probably want to something like media/visual communications, not 100% sure. There's just so much competition in this field, that its hard to find your dream job.

Currently working in a restaurant, because I love the contact with the customers. I get to chat all day long and get paid for it too. :D

Firstly im a single mum of 2 girls (12 and 17)
Then a cleaner part time and a student doing my gcse's again part time, and in my spare time help out at a youth club.

I am still in high school but I am graduating soon. Afterwards I'm planning on going to Cosmetology school!

I am a full time student (a Junior) at Indiana-Purdue University in Indiana, I am going for a Major in Early Childhood Education (k-5 grade) and Minoring in Creative Writing.

When I'm done with that I may actually continue my education and go in to the Mortuary Science area...soo fascinating! I think I would love it but I am so far in to my Education degree it would be silly to quit now...

In my spare time I am a part-time assistant manager at Gymboree (children's clothing store) and I am a Big Sister for Big Brother's Big Sister's foundation.

I am also a self-declared shopaholic =] LOL
