2009 was supposed to bring some much-needed polish to Michael Jackson's career. In March, the King of Pop announced that he was preparing This Is It, an ambitious 50-date concert series in London, England. On June 25, everything changed. A few weeks shy of his first comeback concert, the world was stunned to learn of Michael Jackson's passing. Search engines overflowed, entertainment blogs were overloaded and news networks ran tributes around the clock.

A memorial celebration was watched by an estimated one billion people worldwide and featured all-star performances from the likes of Jennifer Hudson, John Mayer, Mariah Carey, and Usher, as well as a moving impromptu speech from his surviving daughter, Paris Katherine Jackson.

Michael Jackson and his much-publicized personal struggles were suddenly gone, but his musical popularity went through the roof. Within six weeks of his death, close to four million of his albums were sold in U.S. stores alone, while millions more songs were bought online. As a curtain call to the concert series that never was, the rehearsal footage from This Is It was turned into a concert film and released worldwide in October, giving his fans a close look at just what he was working on in the days leading up to his untimely exit.

Man Suing Michael Jackson Estate for $5 Million

A man who claims he was the highest bidder on 170 items in a canceled Michael Jackson auction is now suing the late singer’s estate.

Richard Lapointe has just filed a $5 million lawsuit against both Michael’s estate and Julien’s Auction House, who had scheduled a huge Jackson memorabilia auction for April, but ended up canceling it.

In the lawsuit, Richard claims he was the only bidder on 82 items and "may have been the highest bidder on not less than 88 additional items."

Richard claims Julien's notified him in writing on April 11 and 14 that his registration was complete and his bids had been received. Richards claims Julien's then canceled the auction "despite having accepted bids." He's asking for a minimum of $5 million -- because he claims that's the "true market value of the items" he was bidding on.

Darren Julien issued a statement to TMZ saying:

"He called us the day the auction was canceled and told us he has been emotionally damaged, and he asked what we would do to compensate for it. If he is that emotionally damaged, he can bet on the items when they come back up for auction on November 21st. Also, he accepted the terms on the bidder form which said the auction could be canceled at any time.”
Obviously this guy is just out to make a quick buck! Too bad it looks like he won’t see a dime of it!

Michael Jackson, Beatles Not Enough To Halt Slump In Album Sales

In the US...

200MichaelO2-.jpg

Strong sales of Michael Jackson and Beatles music may not be enough to prevent overall album sales in the US from falling for an eighth time in nine years.

Sales were down 11.1% in the third quarter of 2009 compared to the same period the year before.

So far, overall album sales for the year are down 13.9%. In 2008, total album sales dropped 14%, reports Reuters.

The poor third quarter results came despite a huge surge in sales of Jackson's music in the wake of his death in June.

Sales of the singer's albums totalled 5 million, while The Beatles' re-issued back-catalogue also performed strongly, posting figures of 1.3 million units.

Retailers are expected to pin hopes of a sales increase on the continued strong sales of both artists and a stronger fourth quarter.

Regarding the album sales: 5.5 million albums have been sold in the USA alone and more than 15 million worldwide. This figure excludes the downloads, so these are amazing figures. And just wait until This Is It comes out, which should have 5 new songs and the Planet Earth poem. And despite what everyone is saying i will be running to the store to get my copy ( if only for the booklet. I always read every thank you and drool over every picture in the booklet, and this one will have 29 pages!)

But he should have been here to enjoy it himself...

Michael, I will always love you and try to become a better person. You inspire me!

Any idea who the 2 women (one in white, one in black) and the male in black suit/white shirt and tie are? Assuming they're family, but can't definitively identify them. Thanks.

Re: Opening Ceremony of Michael Jackson Statue in Hong Kong attended by members of Jacksons Family 7

thanks; very nice

Re: Opening Ceremony of Michael Jackson Statue in Hong Kong attended by members of Jacksons Family 7

That doesn't really look like Michael to me.

Several posts regarding a Mural that got cancelled have been moved to Enough is Enough.
Thanks.

Re: Opening Ceremony of Michael Jackson Statue in Hong Kong attended by members of Jacksons Family 7

That's a terrible statue, but where is it in Hong Kong?

Re: Opening Ceremony of Michael Jackson Statue in Hong Kong attended by members of Jacksons Family 7

The statue is weird... but nice tribute..

Re: Opening Ceremony of Michael Jackson Statue in Hong Kong attended by members of Jacksons Family 7

I think one of the girls is Randys daughter Genevieve? The one with the white dress

Re: Opening Ceremony of Michael Jackson Statue in Hong Kong attended by members of Jacksons Family 7

The statue makes Michael look like a cowboy. The 2 women are Genieve and her mom Alejandra (Randy's daughter and his ex wife) and that man kinda looks like Sugar Ray Leonard

Re: Opening Ceremony of Michael Jackson Statue in Hong Kong attended by members of Jacksons Family 7

Is the female in black maybe the woman that was married to both Randy and Jermaine? Guess I thought she was a little older than this person appears to be, though.

The man sitting at the table with them at first looked just a little like Raffles, but in the last pic of him signing something, not at all.

No, she's a daughter of Rebbie or one of the brothers.
