I love this group. Different sound rather than the traditional Four Tops and Temptations.

The Stylistics - Closer Than Close (1981)

^ You Are Everything is a blatant inspiration for J5's All I Do Is Think Of You which borrows the electric sitar riffs. All I Do is also my favourite from the brothers at Motown.

And People Make The World Go 'Round = one of the greatest moments in pop. Such a complex tune, too. But it seems to be the one most think of when they think of this group. That or the cheesy I Can't Give You Anything But My Love, which tends to dismiss them as a saccharine-soaked Mums & Dads kinda group. But they had so many ravers classics that weren't hits at all.

This lickle gem for Philadelphia International is one of my favourites - penned by Dexter Wansel. Strictly B-side business:

I love the stylistics so much, here are my favorite songs from them. (I hope I'm not a bad fan for this but I like the stylistics version a bit more than the MJ version.) Thanks for the wonderful knowlege as usual arxter
I like that song to...

I know thats why I didnt post People make the world go round because I know people mostly know them for that song but they had a variety of other classics that never get that much love...I love Michaels cover of that song..

Oh no problem. Every Sunday in my house growing up was oldies day. All day my mom would listen to the radio play Sunday classics. Maybe it was therapeutic for her. I don't know. but it exposed me to a lot of groups and music growing up that I might not know otherwise. :)

^^^ I know that is what my dad did with me.... he would always play the oldies and expose me to that good music and when I got older I branched off and found more music. It just so happens thats the music that I love even till this day.Im just glad my dad exposed me at such a young age... Alot of kids and teens need that today but alot of the parents are not exposing there kids to different types of music.. if they dont get expose, how will they know about the real classics?

I use to listen to this song all the time lol in 10 grade... this isnt there best works but I wore this song out for some reason lol

Lol! I've never heard that one before. Who knows why we like what we like. Sometimes we go through phases and something in a song just resonates with us. We're drawn to it and we have no idea why.
I went through a phase where I ONLY listened to oldies. nothing else. my mother thought I was going through something. I think I was about 12 and for a few years afterwards. how about this one for a gem of theirs:

I don't remember hearing The Stylistics much, but I remember people playing The Dramatics a lot. I liked You're A Big Girl Now.

LOL Its funny you mention the Dramatics because I exactly was going to make a thread on the Dramatics over the Stylistics because I was listening to "Whatcha see is what you get" at the time. I liked them to but I grew up with the Stylistics more.

Great stuff! I always imagined those two songs being the 'inside out' of each other.

And these guys are still touring!

^^^^Sometimes with old vocal groups, there may be several groups using the name but are not the actual group. Mary Wilson from the Supremes was trying to get legislation to stop imposter groups from using the names of classic groups.

^^Thanks DD!! You are correct about that - often these groups are pieced together and not really legit.
I had just heard an advertisement this morning for this 70's Soul Jam which is playing next month at a local theater. I'll have to dig a little more for performance details.

Yea I agree... in Las Vegas I saw the Drifters, Platters and Coasters show... and more than likely some of them singing were not the orginal members.
