Just wanted to thank you for the IWD thread. I don't think you are goin' to get many replies to it since most American folks don't really celebrate it. Not only that, but women (who tend to be the majority around here) may not find it easy to congratulate one another. Where I come from the custom was for men to give women presents and shower them with attention, but it is true in the last few years women salute one another as well. In the end, female solidarity can never hurt. As long as it doesn't turn into the male bashing typical of extreme feminism, I'm all for it. Also, if some men don't feel like acknowledging the female presence in their lives, there's nothing really that can be done about it. If proper, timely and truly satisfying gift-giving isn't in their nature, how can one have such expectations?
