ROMANIA - New Regulations
The chief veterinary authority in Bucharest (ANSVSA) has introduced an exception allowing animals coming from Ukraine to enter Romania with their human guardians, even if they are not vaccinated, microchipped, or tattooed and have no papers – as long as this form is completed. Form: http://www.ansvsa.ro/.../derogari-pentru-intrarea-pe.../

PETA Germany’s partner organisation in Romania, Eduxanima, is offering to vaccinate dogs and cats free of charge, carry out necessary blood tests, and provide the animals with sufficient food and veterinary care. Its facility is 600 km from the border in Argeș County. For more information, people are encouraged to contact Eduxanima at eduxanima@yahoo.com.
POLAND - New Regulations
According to the latest information, the Polish government has now made it possible for animal companions (cats and dogs) to enter the country without vaccinations, a microchip or tattoo, or a blood test. Guardians who enter via the Polish border must fill out transition papers for the animals. Those able to provide an address in Poland can take their companion animals directly to their destination. If transiting through Poland to another EU country, guardians must leave the animals behind in quarantine at a shelter near the border for three weeks. The Polish government is reportedly funding the accommodation and care of the animals and will vaccinate them against rabies.
We strongly urge people to stay with their animals if at all possible. Just like humans fleeing from war, companion animals will be scared and stressed and are dependent on their human guardians for comfort and security. The transition papers are available in English on the Polish General Veterinary Inspectorate’s website here: https://www.wetgiw.gov.pl/.../Tymczasowa.../idn:1999

HUNGARY - New Regulations
Hungary appears also to have relaxed its entry requirements. Animals can reportedly enter without a microchip, tattoo, proof of rabies vaccination, or titre test as long as these transition papers from Hungary’s National Food Chain Safety Office (NÉBIH) have been completed. It´s a mission for all real cat lovers to help all the cats in the world. You can´t help all of them practically and it´s impossible for one person to donate to all cat shelters. But it´s always helpfully to watch their videos and ads too. And spread the word about spay, neuter and adopt. But how do we stop people to abandon their cats?

Many animals are scared of firecrackers at New Year. There is a war in Ukraine and innocent animals are suffering a lot.
I saw a video with some dogs ,they trembled with fear
Several organizations are helping from Ukraine´s neighboring countries and people in Ukraine try their best to take care of the animals in the shelters there and there are people who feed lots of stray cats...you can´t escape with all of them.
I read some volunteers were killed when they were going to deliver food to a shelter and about a woman where neither she nor the animals had eaten in 2 days.
I also read that some animals have been taken to shelters in Russia-Ukraine´s enemy in this war-.Someone said it is not the people who are at war with each other, it is the politicians. But it is the people and the innocent animals that are affected

PennyAppeal Ireland

On 15th March 2022, we have rescued 82 cats from the Ukrainian border in Moldova, from them 48 cats are badly injured, 34 cats were healthy. One of our volunteers took the 34 healthy cats and give them temporary shelter in her home backyard.
And one of our great volunteers took another 48 injured cats, and she created a beautiful shelter in her own home, also giving them proper treatment and care by giving her own savings, we are providing food support only.
Many cats' two legs were damaged by war, many cats' one or two eyes were damaged, and they became disabled for their whole life without any fault, a painful situation that is hard to explain.
In a beautiful shelter, they recovered well and our volunteer's love and care helped them to forget the scary WAR time. We will shift them soon to their forever-loving foster family.
We are collecting funds for their transportation, hoping our life-saving mission will be successful. We are trying our best to help the innocent helpless animals. Animals have the same right to live in this beautiful world, as humans. Support us from your own place, we all can try to save lives as many as possible. Also, contact our volunteers in the GoFundMe campaign for free adoption. We are from Ireland and our 16 member volunteers come to Moldova to rescue Ukraine animals. We are rescuing animals from Ukraine's cities and border, and we created a temporary shelter here in Moldova for the rescued animals. We will transport all of them to Ireland soon.

Pet ad sites, which are often illegal, increase opportunities for traffickers. Whether they are amateur pseudo-breeders wishing to earn a little money or professionals selling puppies purchased in Eastern Europe through this channel, the phenomenon continues to spread, far from any health control. . Here again, although the problem is well known, it is totally neglected by the authorities.

They are everyday heroes everyone who help the animals there and specially the animal guardians

Nowzad in Irpin ;
The team of amazingly brave, local volunteers combed the bombed-out town to find the dogs and cats and other animals sadly left behind as the residents rushed to evacuate. Many were recovered and taken away to be fostered whilst the team work to trace their owners.

There was also relief amongst Irpin residents who stayed behind and survived the bombing when they realised the team was carrying dog and cat food. They had stayed to look after the local dogs and cats but had run out of supplies several weeks ago! It was amazing to be part of the rescue effort. And your donations made that possible.
Our long-term plan is to support the care and treatment of animals in Ukraine by rebuilding local shelter facilities and supporting local rescue groups.

Sadly, we have heard of several groups who are asking for donations who are not registered charities, along with many fraudulent fundraising platforms claiming to be raising funds to help the Ukrainian effort. Please do check before you donate that it is a registered charity taking your hard-earned donations and that they have a presence in Ukraine!

"Bill banning pet stores to sell dogs, cats, rabbits moves to Governor's desk

New York State (WRGB) — A big win for animal advocates across New York.

On Friday, the New York State legislature passed a bill ending the retail sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits.

Lawmakers say the goal is to end the puppy mill to pet store pipeline in New York.

Assembly Member Linda Rosenthal ((D/WF-Manhattan)) who championed the bill explains that by banning the sale of animals in pet stores in the state, they will cut off one of the largest markets in the country for animals bred for retail sale.

Advocates say many of the dogs, cats, and rabbits sold in pet stores come from breeding factories, which have been notorious for breeding animals in inhumane conditions.

Not only will this bill ban pet stores from selling dogs, cats, and rabbits, but pet stores will also need to provide space to showcase adoptable animals from rescue organizations.

She along with animal welfare organizations have been trying to get this bill passed for the last few years.

“I just hope the governor will sign this bill. It's been a long time coming. It's the correct thing to do for both the unfortunate animals who have been in these puppy mills and for the shelters who need help rehome animals who are already homeless and looking for a loving home,” said Patricia Valusek, President of the New York State Humane Association.

But there is pushback against this bill with pet stores saying it’ll run them out of business.

In a statement, the president of People United to Protect Pet Integrity said, “We feel disappointed in the forward movement of this bill - which would have a range of unintended consequences, from the unemployment of thousands of pet store workers and empty storefronts to increased discrimination of people trying to create loving homes for pets, and spikes in animal abuse and internet pet scams.”

The bill now sits on Governor Hochul’s desk to be signed into law.
If she approves, it’ll take effect one year after it's signed.

Rosenthal says the one year period is to give pet stores time to make arrangements to relocate the animals to a safe place and so pet stores know to stop bringing in more animals in the store to sell."

I´ve posted earlier about Naia who took care of so many kittens, with help of a volunteer.
When the volunteer went home-after staying one month longer in the shelter than it was planned- she took Naia with her.
Well. it was her mother who adopted her. Naia needed some rest and medicine but after that she became like a kitten again

"Dumping kittens in garbage bin? Man on Crete fined with 250,000 euros

Authorities on the island of Crete fined a man who dumped five newborn kittens in a garbage bin with the unprecedented amount of 250,000 euros. Furthermore, the man will be prosecuted for a felony charge and is at risk to spend 5 years behind bars.

On June 3, the perpetrator, a 59-year-old man from Heraklio, had removed the kittens from their mother, put them in a sack and threw it into a garbage bin on the Heraklio-Miron road in Stavriakani Kamara. He left the area with his car convinced that he got rid of the kittens without punishment.
Little did he know…
A woman who brought her trash to the bin found them a little later: one of them had already died, the remaining four were struggling for their lives.
The kittens were rushed to the vet, however, despite efforts to save them, only one survived.

The woman contacted a local animal welfare society and they all denounced the incident to police.

Security cameras had captured the man, his car and the incident. His license plates were not clearly visible, however, with the aid of locals and volunteers police managed to identify the perpetrator on June 9, 2022.
The man ultimately admitted that the dumped the kittens that were about two weeks old, animal welfare website zoosos.gr reported.

Video: “Here! This is who we are!,” the appalled rescuer soliloquizes aloud as she is filming the tragic finding.

It is not the first time that someone in the country abandons defenseless animals and let them die. However, it is the first time, the new animal protection law is implemented in its full force and it will certainly serves as example to scare off other animal abusers..
According to the new law, aAbandoning and killing newborn animals is a felony charge, the administrative fine is 50,000 euros per animal and the fine cannot be written off.

With the previous law, the administrative fine was 30,000 euros and could be written off sometime in the future.
For the first time, this crime was prosecuted on a felony charge for abandoning and killing newborn animals, which, in addition to five years in prison, is accompanied by a 250,000-euro mammoth fine.
An incredible crime against defenseless newborn cats was published by the television lens of “KRITI TV”. T

This incident is added to the long list of similar crimes committed against vulnerable animals, which has the direct consequence that Crete is high on the list of crimes against animals, noted local news websites.

Speaking to KRITI TV, president of the Animal Welfare Association “Zoforos” Maria Houstoulaki, said that Crete is leading in crimes related to neglect, abandonment or abuse of animals.

“Here, in Crete, we are top on the list because of such crimes. It is the first criminal prosecution of abandonment of newborn animals that was carried out after a thorough investigation by the Greek Police, utilizing the data of people who are voluntarily involved in the protection of animals”, Houstoulaki stressed.

Thanking police for its efforts to identify the perpetrator, she said “people must finally understand that life is an inalienable right of every being, whether human or non-human. And we can not throw every life in the trash.”

The Deputy Mayor of Administrative and Financial Services of the Municipality of Heraklion, Maria Kanavaki, stressed: “At first, the legislation seems to be harsh, but this is how it should be when it comes to abuse or torture of souls. We condemn such behavior.”

Animal Welfare Group “Sirios” of Heraklion issued a statement saying “We do not need the strictness of the law to respect the obvious. The life of every creature, which we must respect and protect. Let everyone know that this is an example that such crimes will not go unpunished.”

Note that according to the new animal protection law, if one can no longer take care of a pet, a dog or a cat, there is a legal procedure to be followed through the municipalities.

According to local media on the island, the 59-year-old man confessed the crime but “declared ignorance about the new law.”
He learned it the hard way: 50,000 euros per abandoned kitten.
The surviving kitten is under the protection of an animal welfare volunteer."
