Unpopular opinions about MJ’s music?

Bro what?? That's not unpopular, that's straight up controversial my man haha
Hahahaaa mate I almost couldn’t believe I wrote that. I’m off to the guillotiné. But in all honesty tho, Ben live on the triumph tour is just perfection. I love the instrumentation and his adult vocals. It holds a special place in me heart

I have to admit I love the live version of Ben. Mike's adult voice really carries the emotion of the song

the will.I.am 08 remix of ‘the girl is mine’ is better than the demo, but not the official duet with Paul McCartney.

Pepsi Generation > Billie Jean

And also, Al Capone's bridge alone is better than Smooth Criminal in its entirety IMO.

I just finally watched this today. Oh my! I have no words. When he got to the end I had to take a break to allow myself to, I dunno, debrief myself or something, lol. I'm enjoying the show anyway, it's fabulous. But his performance of Ben was just whole other level. Gorgeous.

Ok controversial. I don't like any of the performances that try to recreate the videoclips. I find Smooth Criminal, Beat it, the way you make me feel and thriller very boring live.
I also dislike songs like earth song and heal the world live because of the theatrics.

Um, f&m, are you feeling brave or just reckless? Airing your controversial views on Thriller Challenge weekend, lol. :ROFLMAO:

Ngl, I don't love Thriller live, the ones I've seen. Love the TII Thriller / Threatened, though. Awesome!

I have another unpopular oppinion. I believe the best MJ albums are the albums where there is a good ratio of MJ penned songs and outside songs from other writers/producers.
Oh, I'm totally on board with this. I love, love, love Michael's own compositions and think he was an awesome songwriter / composer / musician. But I love the work he did with other writers and I love the fact that he *wanted* to work that way. I think it demonstrates his awesome understanding of and immersion in the world of songwriting. I love that he recorded songs written by other people and also co-wrote stuff. I think it speaks to his stature as a true artist. I'm not knocking the singer/songwriter thing. It's fine. Most of my bands fall into that category. But I think Michael's approach is vastly underrated. I don't understand why.

Another controversial opinion I have is that Michael should have kept touring with his brothers. I don’t like any of the solo tour backing singers and dancers.

I love thriller, everything about it but not on stage. Especially when he puts on the mask so silly.

It could have been done much cooler with a huge set recreating a cemetery with zombies actually crawling out.

TII - SPOILERS!

I think the filmed stuff they did for TII does a pretty good job. Not exactly what you're envisaging but close enough, imo. I love that whole bit of the film. The costumes the dancers wear are a little bit goth, a little bit Dickensian. They're in the film but they're onstage also. You've got the huge spider on the film and Michael stepping out of it onstage. Love that moment. And in the film the dancers are emerging from the graves. Plus you've got the bats - always reminds me of the art work in ... is it Batman Begins or Batman - The Dark Knight Returns? Can't remember. The panel where all the bats are flying up. I often wonder if it influenced that bit of the Thriller film section for TII.

I know you already know all of this, f&m! Just me thinking out loud, getting over-excited.

@zinniabooklover

I’ve seen it but I still can’t quite imagine what it would have looked like.
It is a shame the entire production team and dancers didn’t do one full this is it performance for us to see what would have been. After all they rehearsed and worked months on it…

I don’t like any of the bands MJ put together other than the This Is It crew, but I also didn't like the brothers. I don’t have any interest in them; at least the MJ bands knew to stay in the background.

not even the History tour one?

Off The Wall is Michael's weakest album (that's how amazing he is)

Billie Jean shouldn't make Michael's top 20

The Invincible out takes are better than the majority of what was included

The Super Bowl paved the way but was over rated

Bad is better than Thriller

Nope. Too much of it was fake anyways. Watching the background singers mime “Stranger in Moscow” while MJ’s vocals play was embarrassing.

Agreed with everything but the Super Bowl. I think his is a perfect example of why he’s a masterful performer: minimal effects and no set, but he still enraptures the crowd. If I’m gonna watch a performance, I’m reaching for MJ any day.

I find Jennifer Batten miming the guitar rift of TDCAU on the HIStory tour very embarrassing. She looks too stiff to swing her head piece around to. Just didn't look good. Although I suspect she would have preferred to be playing live.

Bad is a poor man's Thriller. An amazing album but it was MJ trying to copy and paste the formula that worked for Thriller. Thank God, he went down a different direction for Dangerous.

Don't think that's as controversial as you think tbh. Pretty sure that's the reason so many people don't like invincible as much.

I'd have preferred 2 full songs instead of a medley, and live
