According to MKGenie on Twitter the Estate, against Sony's wishes are refusing to promote the project and are also blocking Sony from doing so, Sony wants to celebrate Michael.

Another fall out? Surely Branca would still support a Michael product, what's going on??

I think the estate strategy is to play it safe and see what happens. Let the music do the talking so to speak. A bunch of ads and promotion might bring out the haters and ugly comments. We are a few years removed from LN but who knows how the general public really feels. I could be totally wrong but I think we should give it a few weeks and see if promotions picks up once the estate has more confidence of negative backlash. My gut tells me Michael will come out of this just fine.

oh, that is an interesting view point. Better than my testing the waters theory. We certainly don't want bunch of haters coming back.

Whatever the motive, refusing to promote and preventing Sony from doing so is ridiculous.

I was wondering that myself. I remember when Xscape came out there seemed to be decent promotion for it... and then Safechuck's allegations hit the news literally days before the album's release and it just seemed to put a damper on things. When the single for A Place With No Name came out, the details of his accusations hit the news about the same time. The timing of both of these felt very... calculated. The Estate gave up on the album after that.

I know people will say that no one cares about LN anymore, but never underestimate the power the media has, especially the social media. A few well placed posts and hashtags and it'll be in the public consciousness again.

It's true, how do I add a screenshot
Go to the tweet and click the icon with the arrow up that's under it next to the like and rt icons, then select copy link and paste that in this thread.

the music wont be doin any talking if nobody knows it even exists 😭. advertising is essential if you want people to be aware of it. yes there may be haters, but there is no stopping that.

When they open iTunes tomorrow they will know it’s there with the Thriller 40 banner right in there face. People will either buy it or they won’t.

It’s obvious the Estate aren’t interesting in promoting Thriller 40. Look at their social media pages. They are posting some random tweets that have nothing to do with Thriller 40. They are using the picture from In The Closet music video as their avatar, instead of the cover of Thriller 40. There is no link in their social media bio of where to go in order to pre order Thriller 40.

The estate have no interest in spending money on promoting Thriller 40. It seems as if they are interested in some commercial success, they will just lend vocals of an unreleased Michael song to a contemporary artist who will no doubt be commercially successful. Basically what they did with Don’t Matter To Me.

Thriller 40 seems like a very cheap and half assed release but that isn’t surprising.

Perhaps the estate saw the legions of "fans" bashing Thriller 40 any chance they could get and just said to hell with it.

the fans have fucked over foar ages , Dangerous or Bad woul have been so much better than this.

There's a big banner advertising Thriller 40 on my Spotify.

Beat It now states it's the (Official 4K Video) now.

So it seems the promoting is starting now.

Okay, I was asked last year and confirmed to a forum member that Thriller 40 was a thing but the MJE had little interest in contrast to Sony. Commercially it's just nothing important to them due to their shift in business priorities. As you can see they didn't bother to do anything with most of the versions they had. Basically they took some of MJ's own leftovers and the Quincy material that they have cleared long ago:
"Sunset Driver" (2004), "Got The Hots" (2008) and "Carousel" (2001, 2008) are reused. Then there's "Can't Get Outta The Rain" again which simply remains the odd Thriller era B-Side that actually has nothing to do with the album (you all know its true origins from THE WIZ' "You Can't Win") that they used on the Riingle and the T25 Limited Single Collection box set last time.

The other Quincy produced material has been cleared decades ago. Sony wanted to release several Thriller outtakes back in 1999-2001 like "Starlight", "She's Trouble", "Hot Street" and "Nite Line". We all know this. It was the same in 2007 but MJ went with will.i.am / Akon / Kanye West instead.

The "new" MJ demos here were considered or actually have reworks done for either the MICHAEL or XSCAPE album.

Oh boy, did they botcher "Carousel" on this. It was beautifully mastered in 2008 but this sounds muffled, somehow they didn't use the master they already have.
