The Estate are refusing to promote Thriller 40

Okay, I was asked last year and confirmed to a forum member that Thriller 40 was a thing but the MJE had little interest in contrast to Sony. Commercially it's just nothing important to them due to their shift in business priorities. As you can see they didn't bother to do anything with most of the versions they had. Basically they took some of MJ's own leftovers and the Quincy material that they have cleared long ago:
"Sunset Driver" (2004), "Got The Hots" (2008) and "Carousel" (2001, 2008) are reused. Then there's "Can't Get Outta The Rain" again which simply remains the odd Thriller era B-Side that actually has nothing to do with the album (you all know its true origins from THE WIZ' "You Can't Win") that they used on the Riingle and the T25 Limited Single Collection box set last time.

The other Quincy produced material has been cleared decades ago. Sony wanted to release several Thriller outtakes back in 1999-2001 like "Starlight", "She's Trouble", "Hot Street" and "Nite Line". We all know this. It was the same in 2007 but MJ went with will.i.am / Akon / Kanye West instead.

The "new" MJ demos here were considered or actually have reworks done for either the MICHAEL or XSCAPE album.

Oh boy, did they botcher "Carousel" on this. It was beautifully mastered in 2008 but this sounds muffled, somehow they didn't use the master they already have.
And what do you think will happen next?

Number one in regards to the sony/estate situation? They have a contract, the estate privately shifting their business priorities shouldn't free them from fulfilling the contract. Do you know how many "projects" / album releases are to be expected?

Number two in regards to album of new material as mentioned by Teddy Riley in connection to a hard disc drive of Michael Prince with over 40 different MJ vocals/melodies/songs? Is this coming/in the works?

And is it possible that you could explain the situation regarding "the vault"?
Is there even one vault? Or does the estate have a vault? Has sony music it's own vault of MJ material?

Stockholm syndrome
Are you being held against your will? Anyone can stop being a fan anytime they want. If the estate is the worst thing in the world you can just leave.

Mind I ask, was "Who Do You Know" a Michael or XSCAPE contender? and if so, who remixed that for which album?

Is there any chance we’ll ever get another album in this state? Lmao

Sounds like a product the Estate did not want to make or begrudgingly made. That being said the lack of promotion is so strange as they exist to make money.

It'll be a weird petty thing most likely.

Perhaps the estate saw the legions of "fans" bashing Thriller 40 any chance they could get and just said to hell with it.

I read the estate weren't happy with the sub standard fonts etc and backed out

So going forward the estate are leaning toward biopics and shows instead of new or released music?

After Thriller 40's terrible mixing/source and poor tracklist (Sunset Driver and Can't Get Out Of The Rain????) we really must do something or else the Estate will only treat us even worse

After hearing Chicago 1945 and Dream Away it is obvious that they deserve a release as soon as possible, which is why I propose we all go to social media, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok and the rest, and make our voice heard by replying directly to "Michael Jackson" (as it's the estate) and creating the hashtag #C1945&DreamAwayNOW

Possibly use those 2 songs in tiktoks, spreading awareness to all the fans out there

WE CAN DO THIS GUYS!!!

No we can’t. T40 is sold out everywhere for whatever fking reason.

I want the change as much as you, but when 80% of the fan base support every crap they release, you can’t fight it.

But imagine, if Thriller 40 is "sold out" despite all the controversies its implies... Those two songs alone would sell billions...

I don't know why I am bothering with this topic, but still --- its not crap! It appears crap to people who have spent last 20 years searching the world for any piece of leaked snippets they can find. For the rest of us it a good bundle of some new and some heard songs, and no remixes! Sure marketing and promotions could have been better and I don't understand that part. Sure Estate could have given better content, but they did "something", they could have also done nothing or created a bunch of remixes to "modernise" the music

I think this thread is mostly about people wanting Chicago 45 and Dream Away released... It could be totally distinct from what they think of Thriller 40 actually.

Doing "something" and doing it incredibly poorly is not something to be celebrated. They are charging money for this and the audio quality on the CD is some of the worst I've heard (not even considering all the other problems and fuck ups). I'm not gonna pat them on the back for that.

oh, I am not saying pat them on the back, or they did a great job, constructive criticism must be provided. I am just saying for our own sanity let's look at the "full" part of the glass. And yes, they are charging money, but they are not forcing you to buy it. Its (unfortunate) truth that Estate is run as a business and not with emotional investment to preserve Michael's legacy. It sounds counter-intuitive, its primary purpose should be to preserve legacy, but that's sadly just a sad truth of life IMO.

If that was the case, it would make lot more sense, but it's turning into yet another Thriller 40 bashing thread. I am all for demanding more releases.

Since someone was able to put GYWOOM on Spotify as a Bryan Loren song, someone should try to do the same with Dream Away and Chicago 1945 but for MJ, that will give it mass visibility...

wondering if this is the reason why they used "mike's mix" for behind the mask
could that mean there is a superior mix / a quincy version they didn't wanna use cause of qj's involvement

May very well be the case! Does anybody know if Estate and Quincy still are having legal troubles? For future Thriller and Bad anniversaries this obviously would be huge obstacle. And mega frustrating for us fans.

Last I heard, Quincy won the initial suit, but the estate appealed and successfully got a significant percentage of his earnings withdrawn. I can’t imagine he’d be keen to collaborate with them given these circumstances.

Edit: yup. Quincy sought $30 million, was awarded $9.4 million, but actually walked away with around $2.5 million after the estate’s appeal. He was awarded about 31% of what he wanted, but only actually received about 8%.
