Thriller 40th Anniversary

This is the main thing I'm getting so far. His vocals are killing me. They are awesome. Haven't listened all of Disc 2 yet but, so far, his vocals are out of sight!

I think I'm in a minority over this. Not enjoying Thriller 4K, the bits I've watched. The spookiness has just dissipated for me with everything being so bright. I grew up with the original version so maybe that's it. It's just what I'm used to. But, for me, the original has SO much atmosphere. But I'm certainly not looking for agreement from anyone on this. I think I'll be waiting a long time for that. :ROFLMAO:

ooh, what was the MTV one? Didn't know about that.

Yeah, this looks interesting.

I can’t seem to find the link for the mtv special anymore 🙁 I’m not sure if it was a documentary or some sort of celebration. it was upcoming though. I read about it earlier.

Just picked up the physical package and I’m more convinced than ever that there’s some sort of falling out with the Temperton estate. Every song has a (legitimately well-written) blurb ahead of it… EXCEPT for “Baby Be Mine” and “The Lady in My Life.” Obviously those are the album’s only non-singles, but seriously? Not a single word, especially when they’re often called the album’s most underrated tracks? Even the blurb for “Got the Hots” says more about the engineers than it does Temperton.

From a french article, as to why we might miss songs like Hot street on thriller 40.

" Will there be other Michael Jackson unreleased one day?

Yes, assures Laurent Hopman, there are still many unpublished works by Michael Jackson. Some, like Hot street , and Night Line , have already leaked, but in poor quality. “There are a dozen or so titles, recorded during this period, which we know of and which are sufficiently accomplished to be interesting. But these titles, produced by Quincy Jones, will not be released as long as the famous producer is at odds with the singer's estate.

"The estate did a musical show in Las Vegas, 'Michael Jackson One,' using recordings of music produced by Quincy Jones, but they remixed it, partly to avoid having to pay royalties." The dispute even went to trial, with the producer claiming millions of dollars from Michael Jackson's estate.

Another producer, Steve Porcaro, member of the Toto group, also owns a few. "But the estate was not ready to pay enough to have them", underlines Laurent Hopman."

Who is Laurent Hopman?

Quincy is the glaring omission from these documentaries. sadly a lot of the people originally involved with these projects are no longer with us. rod temperton in particular is key. maybe there’ll be some archive footage?

The burbs in the booklet are just the same poorly written ones posted on the website.

Edit: I guess you mean the original album tracks only?

It wouldn't surprise me. Seems the estate fall out with everyone lol. I'm sure it's everyone else's fault and not them at all.

The 360 reality audio versions of the original Thriller tracks just put on Amazon music sound great to me. Particularly loved Billie Jean and Human Nature.

Out of the unreleased tracks on disc 2 I adore Who do you know. It made me feel like I was listening to Michael for the very first time. What a delight. Makes me want to avoid leaks to experience totally brand new tracks hopefully in the future.

OK OK so I just listened to the 360 reality audio version of PYT and my mind is blown. At about 2:12ish just before Michael does his "Uh!" And breathy ah ah ahs THERE IS A VOICE SINGING "PRETTY YOUNG THING YOU MAKE ME SING"

FOR THE 34 YEARS I HAVE LIVED I THOUGHT THAT WAS JUST MUSIC.

Yes, the original album tracks! They’re far better written than those for disc two. Like, for “Beat It”:

Leave it to Michael to transform the words “beat it”—an antiquated catchphrase for “go away”—into an impassioned rock plea for cooler heads to prevail. When Michael invited Eddie Van Halen to contribute his now-iconic guitar solo, Van Halen was already a certified rock star. “Beat It,” however, introduced him to a new global demographic. The single made history, becoming the first hard rock song ever to top Billboard’s Black Singles chart.

Nothing spectacular, but more than competent. Far better than we can say for the new tracks.

Just watched Thriller 4K for the first time and I was blown away. If there is anything positive to come out of this project that everyone can agree with, it would be the 4k videos for Beat It and Thriller.

That begs the question. Where is the 4k video for Billie Jean?
Same question.... Where is the 4k video of Billie Jean
