Carousel parts availability

I wanted to see clearer into "what parts of Carousel are actually still unreleased". So I matched the parts of the versions I know of on a timeline:

My conclusion is that only the drum intro metronome and a part of the bridge are missing, which I don't think is such a big deal...
Were there other versions that I missed ?

Mastering and how it sounds on Thriller 40
At the same time (I already mentioned these in some discussions), I would like to confirm or discard two hypothesis. I see people complaining, there may well be mastering problems on some of Thriller 40's tracks, but let's keep those aside right now :

- Regarding Carousel : I think that they actually used the sound of the early demo that leaked before the release of Thriller Special Edition in 2001. So what we hear is simply the sound before remastering. But then, maybe they should have marked it a "demo". I had it on tape back then and this is exactly the sound that I remember, maybe in better quality than my Nth-generation tape. And it used to be named "Circus Girl" , I heard the title "Carousel" only later.
- Regarding Can't Get Outta The Rain : I think that the same think applies, but it would use the sound of the early vinyl releases. (Which does not excluded mastering problems on top of that.)

Both are distinct hypothesis, and maybe they are wrong. But in case they are true, I think that it's more interesting that they included these "old school" sounds in this release rather than to re-use exactly the remasters that we already have on various releases from the 2000s... This may though yet be arguable from the point of view of those who just discover these tracks...

Note (edit) : When fourth track mentions it is "from YouTube", I do not mean that it initially leaked on YouTube. I mean that this YouTube version is the only or best source I have for it, and I don't/didn't know much of the story behind it when I start this thread. From my current understanding, it the longest version of the song and is the version that was posted by the author at some point.

Just wanted to chime in and say the full version from Youtube is from Michael Sambello posting it on his myspace after MJs passing.

Thanks, though I'm obviously focusing on Michael's versions. Do you think he actually recorded a complete version that would still be in the vault?

The "intro" is just the sound of a metronom. It's not part of the song.

I though so... and then last time I listened, I thought it sounded like drums... I wasn't sure anymore...

That's not a "drum intro" or an intro to begin with, it's simply a metronome, lol.

*Edit: seems like I was too slow, didn't c that was already clarified

But the extended musical break adds a lot of vibe, swagger and atmosphere. I don’t know why this got cut, I think it is an essential part of the song.

Thanks, I already replied to this a few posts ago. Will correct the picture soon.

(Well, websites returns 502 error response, so correction upload will have to wait.) Done)

I was curious about Carousel but didn't really know where to ask this without starting a new thread. No place better than this.

Does anyone know why it was only a snippet on Thriller 2001?

Yes Michael Sambello posted the full Michael Jackson song online after MJs passing.

After checking with someone who knows the details better than I do, it is reported that the version that Michael Sambello posted was 4:08 and did not have extra lyrics sung by MJ. And that would be indeed the fourth track mentionned in initial post.

The Green one cannot be the leak from 1999 as it has the full bridge. i just dug out a CDR i made from that time.

Does anyone know why it was only a snippet on Thriller 2001?

MJ gave Sony that short version. he didn't want any old songs to take attention away from Invincible.

Sembello posted the first high quality full version - without the metronom

the DAT that leaked November 3rd 2009 contained the full version with the metronom - this was also the version that fans had since the 1990's but in LQ
