The song is mastered so hot you can hear a layer of distortion on the track...like really?

The version on King Of Pop/Thriller 40 is the edit that was supposed to appear on Thriller (Special Edition) from 2001 until it got cut down to 1:49. The leak that’s full length is legitimate. I’m thinking it came from a cd or a dat consisting of material that was under consideration for one of...

  5. Thriller 40th Anniversary - Songs Discussion

It sounds better on king of pop italian fans selection than it does on thriller 40.

I don't think it is a different vocal take. I think it's the earliest version of the song. I think Michael made revisions to the track later on and that's why we have vocals we are already familiar with as well as vocals we haven't heard. I think what's missing here are the revisions.

There is definitely a more completed version of the track vocally but it appears they went with the original demo for this release. The second section of verse 1 is just a sketch on the demo, but it's complete on the 2010 remix. I'm under the assumption it is the later master that John McClain...

It sounds like the same vocal take to me but the thing that I noticed was different was during the section in the set of choruses after the last verse. It was longer on the original version, and it appears that John McClain shortened it on his 2010 remix of the song. It's funny because I think...

The ones I own are Bad 25 and Xscape with Thriller 40 coming tonight. Those are keepers. I haven't actually purchased the rest of the digital masters but I may out of my own curiosity.

There is an m4a codec available for dbpoweramp that let's you use it as long as you have itunes installed. It's at the bottom when you enter the link. https://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central-m4a.htm

Lossy yes, but their AAC tech is so good that if you run it through spectral analysis you can't tell. I have never seen a lossy file look this clean. https://imgbox.com/3UL6289Q I think apple lossless will be sold eventually, but for now I'm really happy with this.
  14. Thriller 40th Anniversary - Songs Discussion

Yes absolutely look into the apple files too. Xscape is also a better release than the cd. "Chicago" comparison. Top is my cd rip, iTunes on the bottom: https://imgbox.com/FhreFxXf I'm waiting for the day when they start putting up apple lossless files for sale. Right now they're only...

No not every album is mastered for iTunes but from what I've seen thus far the results have been great.
  16. Thriller 40th Anniversary - Songs Discussion

The average music listener wouldn't notice. It's the hardcore listener that will look at bitrates and waveforms, etc.

The CD. Brian Gardner did the cd...and there were errors: 1. Too bass heavy 2. I Just Can't Stop Loving You had it's intro cut. 3. I'm So Blue faded out too early.
  18. Thriller 40th Anniversary - Songs Discussion

This isn't exactly true. Bad 25 for example...I have a digital edition, CD and an itunes edition and all three are mastered differently from each other... iTunes being the best of the three. Apple have their own mastering engineers so when you see Apple Digital Master on their listing it's done...

I'm currently listening to disc 2 through a vpn on their youtube channel. The distortion on the leak isn't there. It appears to be just a bad cd rip. Can anyone with CD copy of the album here be able to verify there is indeed no distortion?
  20. Thriller 40th Anniversary - Songs Discussion

That's the one with the chalk right? I think I have in storage...don't even know why I bought it. I'm just in the middle of listening to the 2 cd deluxe edition of Lionel Richie's "Can't Slow Down", with the 12" singles and edits being bonus tracks on disc 1 and disc 2 consisting of outtakes...
