BTW, some much less "famous" re-editions are scheduled for February 1st in the US :

Well, I've searched for info about "Sony Extra Value".

And yes, it acts like Legacy Records as a sub-division which is responsible for re-releases of old classics.


So, this really seems to happen very soon. All Jacksons albums digitally remastered. Great!

I wonder actually how much better they will sound?? I mean the CD's I have sound great.. So I don't know how it can sound more 're-mastered'..

Even Thriller 25.. I mean is it really going to sound better than Thriller Special edition?? I doubt it.

Looks like Sony are re-releasing everything they have to do with Michael....the Dangerous tour on DVD is also being re-released on Feb 11

"Thriller 25" sounds the same as "Thriller - Special Edition". That's for sure.


But the only CDs with Jacksons tracks digitally remastered are:

The Essential Jacksons (2004)
The Very Best Of The Jacksons (2004)
The Jacksons Story (2004 / 2007 re-issue)

If you own one of these very three CDs, then you'll notice the difference immeditaley.
The quality is far better (compare to the difference between the 2001 SE's of OTW, Thriller, BAD and Dangerous to their old CD releases in the early '90ies)


All original Jacksons albums have been re-released on CD, but NEVER digitally remastered.
Older Jacksons CD sound the same like their analogue equivalents.

well, this is just another package. content is the same.

this strategy goes for every artist. e.g. you can get most albums now as a slide-pack
(as Number Ones was re-issued in 2007 as a slide-pack, too)

The sound is superb.
State-of-the-art mastered which means it sounds as if it was recorded nowadays.
(just listen to the digitally remastered tracks on the SE's or HIStory Disc 1, they are digitally remastered and sound much better. Note: Songs by Michael Jackson and other artists that have been released after 1991 are usually digitally mastered, so there's no need to remaster them.
The use of digitally remastering a song only applies to songs that are older than from 1992/93)


But you should have waited for confirmation if those re-issues are really digitally remastered.

this won't get a re-release for obvious reasons: MJ's only featured in one track and that is already on "The Essential Jacksons" and "The Vey Best Of The Jacksons" digitally remastered (both from 2004)

But I can't find the first Jacksons album on Amazon UK. Anybody else?

Too bad that those streams are not in CD quality.

that can only be a mistake, Amazon UK has the same mistake, it credits the album to both The Jacksons and The Jackson 5, although it will definitely be the album "The Jacksons Live" from 1981.

Yeah, of course, this is a big chance to make much money again.

But if these re-releases (of the six Jacksons albums) are digitally remastered (except for BOTDF which has always been digitally mastered and is just a dumb re-release with no difference), then it's really sth recommendable for the fans.

yep, there're a lot of remastered cds, but not all (incl. Jacksons cds).

also cduniverse.com has stated some cds as remastered, The Jacksons cds are not stated as 'remastered' (yet)
