Now that we have real screenshots of the album credits/lyrics booklet, it's time to start a James Porte Thread. I'm interested in hearing the following if anyone has any info:

(1) Any pictures? Looked for some on google images, nothing for sure
(2) Does he have any other credits?
(3) Any recordings of his voice (other than the backing vocals on the 3 songs he's credited for on 'MICHAEL'
(4) How old approximately is he?

James Porte's voice is clearly distinguishable from MJ's during Breaking News. Especially on the "Jackson" part, if you listen.
So why some people think he sounds like MJ, I don't know.

James was one of the assistant engineers on 'Invincible', working out of the Hit Factory in NYC !!!!

I checked the "thanks" section in the Invincible booklet and Michael says thanks to a Jim Porto (among others from The Hit Factory/Criteria Studios Miami). Is it the same guy? Last name is spelled differently...

I hear him in the MJ-part, but i'm convinced it's Malachi that filled the rest of the Cascio's songs!
Some even say that Porte and Malachi are the same person, but that's B.S. probably.

James is singing the background vocals on Breaking News. He is not singing lead vocals, Michael is!

It's laughable that you guys think it is Jason Malachi. I've seen where someone thinks Malachi and James is the same person. lol

Nah ah for me it ain't. That ain't no Michael Jackson on the lead vocals, just listen to that whole verse, listen to him saying his own name, all of that sounds wrong. It doesn't sound like MJ at all. Which exactly are the background vocals in this song?

I have listened to the song, and Michael's voice sounds muffled because Sony and the ones that mixed it AFTER the songs were given to the mixers messed it up. I am told that it is suppose to sound better on the album. So I encourage fans to wait until the album is actually released before criticizing.

The "Michael Jackson" part is aided by a background vocalist, as well the chorus.

The real version from the hmv snippet is different. The only part that the 'background vocalist' (or Porte) sings is "Jackson". I think the song has been changed to make the other vocalists more subtle in areas so Michael's voice is more clear. I'm hoping this is the case anyway. Curious to hear the full, new version.

If it really is MJ on that, it's a shame they released that song to begin with. If those vocals weren't good enough, they shouldn't have been used. If they had to mess around with it so much...but this goes for Monster too then.

I hear him in the chorus, but not in the verses/lead vocals.

I think the initial problem they had with BN was making it far, far, far too overproduced. I really believe that is why the initial doubts surfaced. Had they held back with the backing vocalist(s) in the first place, there might have been less criticism. We'll see anyway when we can finally review the full, final version for ourselves.

^what if the backup vocals were recorded in 2007? what if it was overproduced to begin with? its a demo afterall, michael could have overproduced/experimented knowing this won't be the final product.

and I agree, lets wait for the final version

It's a Ne-Yo song, and he's clearly heard on the main vocals and chorus, it's been edited to include Michael's signature sayings before he starts singing again ie. all the "Ah's" you hear are all Michael's, then at the end you have someone (I don't even believe it's Ne-Yo anymore), doing his best vocal impersonation, but failing miserably.

Edit: It's actually Steven Russell throughout the entire song.

well often artists have stand ins in music videos.. I mean e casanova was in a couple MJ vids due to schedueling.. now I have seen first hand when I helped on Omarions 'Touch' video that he had a stand in durring some far shots when u cannot fully make him out.. some people do it more than others.. Omarion did not need it much but NE-YO from what I hear from alot of other dancers always struggles.. so I cud see him needing alot of stand ins

Totally off topic, but I thought it was funny I was at Omari's Touch video shoot too. Not helping though, just a fan hanging out.

...and it's so weird. I live in Tempe, AZ now. Small world.

Well he has a similar tone to whoever's singing BN.

Porte is definitely not Malachi, but the background vocals of BN remind me strongly of some of Malachi's songs.

Just my opinion.

Thank you. I'm laughing at his REAL name of Bobby Ewing. Bobby Ewing was a character on the famous family dynasty show called "Dallas", which was very popular on TV in the late seventies/early eighties.

Would you be CM Strike, formerly of Positively Michael, by any chance? CMS makes me think of that user name, is all. :smilev6:

That's not James Porte.
That's the real guy:

James Porte is an agent at Prominent Properties Sotheby. He is married to Marie Nicole Porte, Eddie Cascio's sister.
