Re: Michael Jackson Estate News (Announcements and Discussion) - 2018 and Beyond

LOS ANGELES, May 23, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- We want consumers to know that The Last Days of Michael Jackson, a television special airing on ABC TV (a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company) tomorrow May 24, is not sponsored or approved by the Estate of Michael Jackson. It is particularly disheartening that Disney, a company known to strongly believe in protecting its own IP rights, would choose to ignore these rights belonging to the Estate.

ABC was using a copyrighted photo and silhouette image owned by the Estate in the trailers and promotional material for the special. Only after notice from our attorneys to ABC News indicating they were infringing on our IP rights were the materials removed. We are told ABC intends to use music and other intellectual property owned by the Estate such as photos, logos, artwork, and more in the program itself, without having licensed the rights to any such material. Imagine if this was done with any of ABC's intellectual property. We believe the special to be another crass and unauthorized attempt to exploit the life, music and image of Michael Jackson without respect for Michael's legacy, intellectual property rights or his children.

They best do something more than having a select few in Vegas be able to celebrate. There are fans all over the world who aren't privileged enough to make it to Vegas, myself included.

MJ was all about getting all the fans involved. If the Estate wants to follow 'Michael's desire', do the same.

Re: Michael Jackson Estate & Sony Music to Celebrate King of Pop's 60th Birthday With Las Vegas Fete

Find it very hard to care about this. Props for the charity work.

A Vegas exclusive party and an overpriced box of picture discs. Happy birthday, Mike.

I agree totally. What can fans from countries other than USA join in to celebrate Michaels 60th??

Or is everything going to be wait until next year when its his 10th year of not being with us.

I miss you so much Michael * music innovation died with you, and music videos are never advancing anymore than when you was here!*

Well.......what did fans from outside the USA do, when Michael was alive? They organised their own parties and events, of course. He never celebrated his own birthday in a big way.....his 45th was a fan-organised event (in London) and basically a one-off. His birthday has taken on a different meaning, since he passed away, naturally, but the phenomena of celebrations and events occurring in a limited way, in limited countries (a.k.a mostly the USA, where he was born and where he lived) is not surprising and the same as it's always been. Fan clubs and fan enclaves from other parts of the world (e.g. Brazil) can and will organise their own celebrations, I'm sure.

Re: Michael Jackson Estate News (Announcements and Discussion) - 2018 and Beyond

This little video shows us what the new picture discs (LP vinyl records) released by the Estate, for Michael's Diamond birthday, actually look like, out of their covers. Hector Barjot is speaking in French, but after the Intro, he is just showing us each of the records. They are absolutely GORGEOUS!! This makes me want to buy them, now, even though I have nothing to play them on.

Alicia what about re-running the take2 and helping Taj get a documentary with all the stars/celebs who knows him, like Macauley etc.

Tell the world what he used to do for all the underprivildged kids, dying kids etc. Help he gave to lots of people and saying that they where not just boys!

Michael had a gf , she came out to see us outside his hotel in London.

Tell everybody how kind he was with fans, like buying us all pizzas once the press had left and laughing about it!! Also paying for us to have drinks which we all shared.

The man was a big kid. Where is the harm in that. Oh yes of course He did not comply! And neither will the estate to these 2 liars when they wanted money!

You're comment an year old but i totally agree. Michael made sure all his fans was welcome and good access to these events. the estate needs to do the same because that how Michael would of loved it. as a fan and my mother we can't go to half these events because their not close to our state. i live in the usa.

Finally! i was gonna make an thread for this. glad to know it exist. so what do with posts that have do with a topic with thread that already exist?
If there's already a thread for it then post in there, don't make a new thread. And make sure it's actually properly relevant to the topic before posting it.

What's the reason they can't pursue a claim against Michael Jackson...again.

The statute of limitations prevents them from making a claim against Michael himself, a.k.a. the MJ Estate and their claims and/or appeals have already been denied; something to do with the time frame of when they "realised" they'd been (allegedly) abused, etc. They have no avenues left, with regard to that.

The recent changes to the law, regarding the statute of limitations, however, have enabled them to pursue their claims against the companies, via some loop hole. In my opinion, they don't have a snow ball's chance in hell of proving that anyone in the companies of MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures, is liable for their (alleged) abuse. Safechuck, in particular, was never employed by either of the companies.

Great info in the below tweet about how and why

Justice for The Falsely Accused
@JuliaBerkowitz1
So let me explain what exactly changed in the California Code of Civil Procedure that enabled Wade Robson and James Safechuck to save their cases from being dismissed and what this means for the future.

Michael Jackson Estate Inks BMI Deal

by TV News Desk Jan. 21, 2020

BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.) and The Estate of Michael Jackson announced today that they have inked a renewal agreement for BMI to continue to represent the performing rights in Michael Jackson's songwriting catalog. This new deal continues an uninterrupted 41-year long relationship between the King of Pop and the performance rights organization which began in 1979 when Michael Jackson first signed with BMI. The Estate and BMI last renewed the deal in 2014.

"Michael first signed with BMI in the nascent stage of his solo career and BMI has never wavered in its commitment to his extraordinary talent. This is a significant agreement, commensurate with the robust growth of interest in his music and his enduring contribution to the culture," said John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson.

"The influence of Michael Jackson's revolutionary music is undeniable," said Mike O'Neill, President & CEO, BMI. "We are extremely pleased that his estate continues to entrust BMI to represent his extraordinary catalog."

Michael Jackson's remarkable career scaled unparalleled musical, commercial and critical heights. As a songwriter, he penned more than 150 songs, with more than 20 reaching multi-million performance status. Michael's compositions include some of the most iconic songs of all time: We Are the World; Billie Jean; Smooth Criminal; Wanna Be Startin' Somethin; They Don't Care About Us; Earth Song; Black or White; Bad; Love Never Felt So Good; Can You Feel It; Heal the World and more.

To illustrate the strength of Jackson's vast repertoire, 17 of his songs have exceeded over one million plays on radio, with some exceeding five million spins. In total, these 17 songs alone have surpassed 30 million radio plays, an outstanding feat by any measure.

Michael's music continues to thrill fans and inspire artists all over the world. At the end of last year, Michael's albums held spots on ten of Billboard's year end charts and on-demand streams of his music increased by 23%, outpacing the industry at large. With over 6.5 billion streams, he remains one of the most popular artists of all time.

Does the Estate assume MJ fans don't like Quincy? He's a legend.

He WAS a legend. Now he is an old senile fart who insulted MJ many times. This atempt of money grab by him was disgusting.

This great victory by justice will finally enable Estate to relase more material from that period imcluding Thriller and Off The Wall outtakes.

This is actually historic victory for art and music against selfishness of one man.

Great. - But I hope this will not make it harder in the future to get QJ/MJ material released?

Can someone tell me what's this about?

Can you explain it to me a simple matter?

It's simple. Michael Jackson (now his Estate) has 100% rights of his music and all music rights MJ bought - that is called Mijac Catalog. Michael and Quincy agreed and signed a contract that MJ will pay royalties (10% according to this trial) to Quincy for the work they did together (songs produced or co-produced by Quincy). Ownership of the songs/catalog was always 100% Michael. Michael always kept his songs and this whole catalog of music separate from Sony ATV catalog containing Beatles songs. That catalog was sold by MJ Estate to Sony for 750 MIL $.

Moderator announcement: Please restrict posts in this thread to Estate News ONLY. That is, anything new that is being announced by the Estate, official Estate announcements by MJOnline, articles about these announcements and statements, or further developments related to something announced previously. Discussion about said statements/announcements is also allowed in this thread. The thread is not for complaints and/or musings about what the Estate should or should not be doing, or what we would like to see happen - there are (many) other threads for that express purpose. Can we please also have members doing their own reading and research about what certain developments mean, rather than asking incessantly for explanations? The chat box and the chat room might be a good place to start, when it comes to having tons of random questions answered....there is usually someone there, who is willing to help. Thank you.
