Well finally Branca confirmed there will be a concert coming. Doesn't matter if it's the Munich show. The one we have is in 720p, this one will hopefully be in the original aspect ratio and 1080p. Compared to others I very much enjoy that particular show.

I'm relieved.

It's average to say the least. We don't need Munich 97 to be officially released when we have literally 50 different versions of it online for free lol. Even if it's released on bluray there's no way I'm buying it. Give the fans a jacksons/bad or dangerous tour concert.

Branca talked about this in 2012 too. What you mean by the original aspect ratio? I'm pretty sure it was shot in 4:3 like the rip we have. Also I remember someone saying that it would be 1080i at most. It was shot digitally in 1997.

I thought I've indeed that they were filming the shot digitally with the first generation full hd cameras as an experiment. Can't find the source anymore.

It was shot with an 1:85:1 ratio if I can recall, that means 16:9.

I'm all for the Munich concert in theatres on the following conditions:

#1. It is completely reedited using a mixture of both July 4th and July 6th shows.

#2. The vocals are completely edited. (Similar to what they did with This Is It they could use actual live vocals that were recorded underneath the playback as well as live rehearsal vocals.)

#3. The music should be unedited. See: https://youtu.be/g0e2-8STEH4

#4. Make it 3D.

In doing the above it will make both the audio and visual of the show completely different and in doing so will feel like a brand new concert.

Are you sure about that? It wasn't planned for cinemas so I wonder what would have been the point to shoot it in widescreen? Usually concerts were 4:3 if they were for tv or dvd.

I was at the screening in Toronto. All I can say is that I really hope that they release it. Thriller 3D is unbelievably good on the big scream with the great sound. John Landis was there as well as Branca and the director of the Making of Thriller. Branca was actually asked if they are going to release Thriller 3D. I was seating directly behind the row reserved for Branca and other guests and saw clearly that they motioned to him not to answer. He dodged the questions. He was also asked about Dangerous 25 and joked that it is a bit too late, may be Dangerous 30 some day. He was asked if the Estate plans to restore (probably in 3D) other material. He mentioned "German concert" which I guess in Munich and, to my delight, Ghosts.
To summarize, I think this is absolutely great that the Thriller is restored to the former glory. As to the 3D, there were moments where I though it was too much, but overall it looked practically perfect. I do hope that they release it.
And sorry for my quite broken English.

How was the quality of the making of documentary?

May be not everyone knows this, but film festivals usually only play films that are not available elsewhere. That means films that are not yet released. As soon as the Estate releases the new version of Thriller, most festivals will no longer program it. So may be they are holding back the release, and information about it, as long as they are trying to get it shown at festivals around the world.

Thank you for sharing this! All sounds wonderful...and REALLY surprised he mentioned a possible restoration of Ghosts. That is music to my ears.
Very pleased!

That's true, maybe it's another concert of the tour? or from another tour? who knows lol. the thing is that I will be very happy with any concert the Estate decides to release in real HD

It is Munich 1997. Branca mentioned in 2012 Q&A that he wants to release German HIStory Tour concert in 3D.

then it must have been shot in widescreen dude lol, we all know how annoying is to see a cropped MJ concert from 4:3.

Can you give me a link to where Branca says that? I remember reading that long ago but thought it was just a rumor so didn't really pay attention to it :)

Why it has to be widescreen? :) 4:3 video can be 3D too. I have Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) on Blu-Ray and it has the 3D version on it. Also nothing stops them showing it in cinemas if they really want to.

I can't find the video anymore for some reason. It might be removed. It was a Q&A session with Spike Lee and Branca at Bad 25 screening.

lol but why would they give us the exact same video we already have in 3D? I want real HD, I don't care about the 3D. if they release Munich it has to look different that the one we already have.

Yeah that is the reason I have been wondering why Branca wants it to be released. I tried watching the HD version on my TV not long ago and I got bored after few songs.

Yes we've seen it loads already but it doesn't help that most songs are mimed - makes the concert seem kinda flat and less dynamic than live shows :bomb:

Exactly why I don't understand the reason for releasing Munich in theatres just for 3D. It's simply not worth it lol I love mj but I couldn't pay to see a dull concert that's already available on youtube, for free. All this $ going into 3D history tour concerts, when the can't even give us an HD concert from Destiny/triumph/victory/Bad/dangerous tour...smh
Munich 92- different story

This is all great news to me.. releasing more footage, seen already or not.. I am for it!

Don't underestimate the amount of people that enjoy HIStory concerts.. I get it, much was mimed.. seeing what the Estate did with This Is It, who knows what they will do.. It would not suprise me if they use live vocals from one concert and dub over the mime to be more 'real'.. We have no idea, they dubbed a lot in This Is It!

If they dubbed live vocals over HIStory I personally would not mind for the simple fact for people watching it for the first time wont no better (until we start commenting about it) lol! and it would appear as if he did sing live..

If they leave alone, oh well..

I don't think they should dub anything. Why release something if they would have to hide the lip-syncing?

Thanks for your impressions. Who motioned Branca not to answer the release-question or do you mean it was directed to Landis?

Last opinion on this:
Thriller 3D - great idea, and sounds like it was a success.
I would buy it on DVD/Bluray
Munich 97 3D - horrible idea, waste of the fans $
Already seen it, not really a LIVE concert, available for free in HD, not worth paying for 3D
Wouldn't buy it in any format
$ should be spent on a better concert release...

I fully agree with you, but it just seems so UNREAL to even think about a Bad/Dangerous Tour blu ray release, it's like something that you know it's never gonna happen. I don't see the Estate spending time and money on that :(

I'll say if they do release Thriller on disc, there will have to be more on that disc.. no company would be stupid enough to put 14 minutes of footage on a DVD (or other) and try selling it. It would financially would be irresponsible. It will have to be either digital download or disc with other footage (making of or other)...

They wont release Thriller 3D on disc by itself! costs would be too high for the return they could get.

Now you mentioned it, I can remember that back in 1997 Ghosts and the HIStory Tour were projects that were released at the same time...

Hmmm.. could it be a remastered versions of Thriller, Ghosts and the Munich show on bluray?

yeah there has to be something else because Thriller, the music video together with the Making Of is not enough for a release

They'll probably include bonus features

It may not be enough these days, but I still remember that VHS and playing it until it broke lol I'd gladly buy a blu ray of just the video and Making of Thriller if the quality is great :)
