Re: Prince...........

Prince's watchdogs must be off tonight, I found a whole treasure trove of his performances on youtube. One of the best, Prince on Arsenio Hall doing Let's Go Crazy and Kiss. Watch it quick, it will be gone shortly, I'm sure-

I'm beginning to believe those rumors that Youtube is paying Prince are true, lol. There's a channel by a Perpetito2 (not sure of the spelling), but his/her channel has been up a long time and it's all Prince stuff, including unreleased bootleg recordings and concert footage. A few things like some Revolution rehearsal footage in a warehouse has been removed, but I don't know why the whole page hasn't been yanked.

Re: Prince...........

After Michael, Prince is my second music-ian LOVE...

But ... he (as Michael did) looks too much.... gay-ish...

.

How are you still here and getting away with saying things like that? :S haha

Hey guys, does anyone know what Prince is singing about on ''Power Fantastic''? I love the song so much but I don't understand the lyrics.

I don't remember the lyrics offhand, but I think that song was written for Miles Davis to perform on, but nothing became of it.

I love this song.

I remember reading a quote from Wendy Melvolin about the recording session of this song and she said that they all walked away from it knowing that they had just created something truly special.

It's a beautiful song indeed. Eric Leeds says he got goosebumps while they were recording it. I don't blame him. I seriously don't understand the lyrics but it touched me. That flute, the trumpet, the melody, Prince's falsetto! I don't understand why this song was never released on an album. It doesn't make sense..

It was released later on The Hits/The B-Sides compilation album, but the version on there doesn't have the long instrumental intro.

Love it! Thank you :)
I was reading the comments on that video, and they're so true. Look at artists today and their excuse "you can't sing and dance together" and then look at Prince singing and dancing in this video. Plus playing the guitar during Let's Go Crazy. That's what you call TALENT. His energy is incredible.

Re: Prince...........

An act doesn't have to write songs to get an award, unless it's specifaclly for songwriting such as a Grammy like "Song Of The Year" which goes to the writer and not the act, unless the act wrote the song, or technically whoever is listed on the songwriting credits. There's awards for vocalists like Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Johnny Mathis, Whitney Houston, Barbra Striesand, Celine Dion, and other non writers. Before The Beatles (& maybe Bob Dylan) popularized it, very few performers self wrote, and most of them were jazz acts. Besides awards are campaigned for by the record labels (or movie studios for the Oscars). It's like running for a political office pretty much. The voters don't even listen to a lot of the songs. There's many catagories on the Grammys that don't get telecast. Do you really think all of the voters really listen to a Hillary Clinton spoken word album or the albums nominated for best Polka or best Native American recording, lol? Some of it is just blind voting, picking a veteran act that the majority of the older voters know (like Herbie Hancock), or voting for whoever's label spent the most money campaigning for their act.

The music industry is so screwed up... Its annoying when there are plenty of good acts that never get nominated or who have never won an award.

In the old days, a lot of the industry was run by the mafia. That's why a popular song or record was called a "hit" or a fast rising record on the chart might be called "Number 20 with a bullet". Awards don't really mean anything, it's just politics. It was known in the industry and their record label Arista that Milli Vanilli was fake, but the Grammys gave them an award anyway. There's been other fake groups before them like Boney M. The whole thing backfired because Robert & Fabrice demanded to sing themselves on their next record, so it was spilled out to the public that they didn't sing on their album to teach them who the real boss was. George Michael fought against Sony and was kept in litigation for years and was outed. Back in the 1960's, Mary Wells & Flo Ballard was blacklisted by Motown after they left and their career died. Jackie Wilson was hung out of a balcony by Nat Turnopol (who ran Brunswick) and forced to resign with the label. It was rumored that Sam Cooke was murdered by the mob because he refused to sell his publishing and record label over to them. The official story of his death was a coverup and people who knew Sam never believed it. These things don't happen by accident. The record industry is shady like any other business (Enron, Nike's sweatshops, BP oil, Wal-Mart, etc.). Most people don't know what goes on behind the scenes, they think it's all glamor and glitz. Look at Mike, when he caught on to what was happening and started speakin out, they shut him down like they did with George Michael & Prince.

The one and only (and one of Funkenberry's favorites) Prince was a social butterfly in New York last week.

He checked Lalah Hathaway and Dwele show at B.B. Kings and then after wards, went to another club where Robin Thicke was performing and saw the purple one in the crowd and did a little bit of “Kiss” which we heard got Prince moving. What? Gotta love it when the men try to sing “Kiss” and try to hit the high note. Even when it’s the biggest baddest brother’s in the place, it’s funny as anything in heaven, babies!

Then on Thursday night he saw the musical “Fela” and he was not alone!

“Fela” which is based on the music of Fela Kuti, a Nigerian composer attracted the likes of Prince the same night Bruce Springsteen was there! 2 musical icons and we don’t know if the two talked, compared bank accounts, or if they even ran into each other.

After wards, Prince took to the Groove to check out some musical talent.

Prince has definitely had a “Hot Summer” for sure with the release of his CD 20Ten which is still NOT available in the States unless you want it on eBay.

We have heard rumors that Prince has several tour options on his lap from the U.S. to more shows overseas and even Timbuktu. My guess would be that he would go back overseas and make a few stops. The U.S. fans would love to see Prince but it makes sense to make the other fans happy and go where the money is. Remember, that’s ME saying that, OK?

It’s always nice to hear bout the coolest man in music enjoying himself. It seems the NY paps though could not locate Prince so no photos to share but hope you enjoy this one of him performing earlier this summer in Nice.

If you see Prince in New York or back in his hometown of Minneapolis, tell him the doctor says hi n is already at works of new ventures when it comes to media. We can “Laydown” too!

Re: Prince...........

I find it rather sad that Prince has released his best album in a very long time but it was only made available in Europe. Sometimes its like he's on a mission to set himself up. I really wish I could understand how he thinks.

Prince has always been unconventional, even during his most popular period in the mid 1980s. That was one of his problems with Warner Brothers. Prince just wanted to put out what he wanted, when he wanted, like 3 or 4 albums a year. But Warners said they couldn't make any money that way and it would oversaturate the market with material. Warners wanted to promote and make the most of one album, which Prince wasn't really interested in doing. He had really big success with the Purple Rain soundtrack, but right after that, he released Around The World In A Day, which was uncommercial for the most part. Prince didn't want to release any singles or make any videos for the album, but Warners made him do the Rasberry Beret video. Later he released a record called Lovesexy. On the CD version, the songs weren't separated and it was like one long track. If you wanted to hear a particular song, you had to fast foward to it, lol.

Before CDs, many acts had songs on albums that were connected or faded into each other, but the record still had the bands between the songs. Speed Demon & Liberian Girl on Bad is an example of this.

I know that whole thing with Sam Cooke was a major cover up.I think its sad that the public buys into everything they see and just fall into the whole hollywood bullish image. Thats why most of the old heads dont attend any of the current award shows because its all fixed and based on politics.... Its just sad that the industry/ society is made up like this. It just makes me so mad and at times I wish I could voice the the truth or fix the problem lol but it seems if when you do try to keep it real masses bash you... so were like stuck in this artificial bubble.
