@Nite Line I’m to this day flabbergasted at the low peaks of Jam, TDCAU and Who is it! I would love to know the reason behind it. Especially so who is it as it turned into a single after the Oprah a cappella. You would think the impact should have been bigger! In hindsight I think Give in to me would have been a better choice for the USA.

TDCAU had a low peak because of the controversy surrounding the lyrics and the fact that radios refused to play the song.

I am not sure why Jam and Who Is It had a low peak. Maybe because Michael didn’t tour the USA during the Dangerous Tour?

I also think that a rock song like Give In To Me would have been a hit in the US, but GITM was only released for international markets, more than a year after the album’s release. I personally would have released GITM as the third single of the Dangerous album.

For global events were Michael had a broadcast that was aired worldwide, i found reported viewership figures of
3,000,000,000 - Michael Jackson memorial (Figures were 2.5 billion to 3 billion, but stories of people in Cambodia and remote places in Africa hearing about his death leans towards the latter being true)
2,000,000,000 - The start of the Michael Jackson trial (Figure was reported by Pretoria News on January 30th 2005)
1,300,000,000 - The Super Bowl Halftime performance (Broadcasters gave a low estimated figure of 1 Billion. aired in over 80 countries)
1,000,000,000 - Daphene Barack "Our Son: Michael Jackson" (Interview on Primetime, aired in 50 countries that was shown across 2 days following the trial)
1,000,000,000 - The 2006 World Music Awards that was based around the celebration of Thriller (160 Countries)
900,000,000 - The 2000 World Music Awards were they advertised Michael recieving the Artist of the millennium award (150 Countries)
900,000,000 - The 1996 World Music Awards were Michael was advertised to perform the Earth Song (150 Countries)
500,000,000 - Michael Jackson's interview with Lisa Marie Presley on Primetime, also the debut of his video Scream (Coverage wasn't reported, but probably 50 countries like the above interview)
500,000,000 - Michael Jackson's Black or White music video (Limited to 26 countries)

Averaging the figures of all of these gives a total viewership figure of 1.23 Billion viewers, meaning on average that's how many people in the world stopped to watch Michael Jackson whenever he was on worldwide TV.

Playlist of Michael Jackson songs with over 100 million streams on Spotify (Including features, The Jacksons & The Jackson 5).

@Nite Line Thriller 2003 at No. 32. :)

Really nice playlist.

Give in To Me was going to be a US single but it was swapped out for Who Is It on account of the Oprah spike. But as a result, the video for WII wouldn't be made in time for the chart blitz. Ultimately neither song ended up doing as well as they could've, state wise. In what I consider to be a genuine fumble in MJs camp.

No surprises that Thriller and Bad albums had the most successful singles. I am also pleasantly surprised at the performance of History's singles. But I must say that I am a bit disappointed by the overall total of Dangerous' singles. :(
Since, I made this post, Off The Wall has been certified Silver and They Don't Care About Us has been updated from Gold to Platinum.

I hope to see Black Or White & Remember The Time reach the Platinum status in 2023.
