Latest from Odeon

Hi there, it hasn't been confirmed yet I'm afraid - Ollie

Hopefully Odeon haven't flat out refused to show it after all. It's a shambles though, that's for sure.

So far only two cinemas in the UK are showing it. Neither are party of a big chain.

Yeah, Cardiff IMAX isn’t showing it.

Makes you wonder who is showing it in the UK? If any at all?

It precedes "A House With Clock in its Walls",so I think you've got to book to see that ..

I just got home from seeing the movie. I mainly went for Thriller but the flick was decent. The 3D effect was cool overall but for me the main attraction was seeing the short film itself in such crisp, sharp HD quality with crystal clear multi channel audio after years of watching the muddy old video transfer Sony has continuously shoveled out over the years on various video releases. I have wished for forever that they would restore all of his video short films in this kind of quality, or at least as many as they have the original elements for. I feel like this is what the videos in the Vision box set should have looked like.

I just came back from seeing it! I saw it at one of the true IMAX screens so the screen was massive. I didn't go to one of those digital IMAX screens which are much smaller. I have to say it was a great experience. The sound alone in IMAX was awesome! I will say that the version I saw was cropped someone along the sides in order to make the video fit the entire screen. I'm normally against this type of thing but it just made MJ appear bigger on screen so I can't complain.I highly recommend you go see this at a true IMAX screen. I would only go see this at a digital screen if you have no other option.

Maybe it's me, but he doesn't look blue, grey or ashy here. It seems that's only when they are outside in the moonlight.

Jack Black is on Jimmy Fallon and stated that Thriller remastered will be shown before the movie.

Thriller 3D is actually not cropped. It was originally shot for this theatre format.

We drove a ways to see it. They forgot our 3D glasses so we just walked in as O'Ray left the Theater. It was amazing, and the 3D wasnt bad aswell. I wish i could see it again. Best Quality. I never saw the credit outro too, that actually surprised me.

It was originally shot in 4:3/1.33:1 (watch the VHS home release or Youtube ratio), so yes it's definitely cropped, but you are right on the fact it was meant to be seen in widescreen format at the theater.

It was shown like this last year:

What you are watching is the widescreen version cropped from the original 4:3 format. The way it is watchable from the spectator's view looks like it's 4:3 but no, optical illusion :D. I was in the place when he filmed it from his mobile phone.

Here is a better view of the widescreen format at Venice 2017 festival:

I compared that to the music video on Youtube and it looks like you can see a little bit more on the sides but less from top and bottom in that 3D version.

I hope they include both 4:3 and widescreen versions when they release it on Blu-Ray.

Most of the missing picture is the bottom and the top, it is what happens when you convert 4:3 to widescreen format. Maybe a little part gained on the sides, i'm not sure and would need to check that on a bigger display than my monitor to confirm. Yes both format on Blu-ray would be nice for purists !

House without Thriller played at my local IMAX today to a crowd of about 8 people.

Today is a holiday where people are off work, and all schools closed.

Maybe if they had shown it with Thriller and promoted it they might have got more than 8 people in. Great job to all involved(!)

Yes it was shot in 1:33, like most of TV productions in these times.

Also imdb confirm:

Original 4:3 aspect ratio:

Cropped version shown last year (Widescreen):

It is clear that we lose picture from the top and bottom because it is cropped. (I'm not talking about the seat at the bottom on the widescreen picture), but just look at the top. Couldn't find any others videos for an example, sorry for the quality.

As a purist i'm still convinced it's the best way to watch it at the theater (widescreen).

Just got back from watching it, man am I stunned by the quality! Looks like it was filmed yesterday and as most people never really was a fan of 3-D but this is something else. The sound was incredible you can hear almost every instrument being played. Hopefully this gets released in some type of video format but watching on the HUGE screen is something else!

Ah, I think I confused your point. It was originally shot in 4:3 but was always intended for the Cinema crop, hence you don’t lose any MJ and the 4:3 version you can see stage lights etc.

The IMAX screen I viewed it on has a ratio of 1.43. So whether Thriller was originally 1.33 or widescreen, there had to be some cropping involved.

I saw it this afternoon and loved it! It was so refreshing to finally watch a film with Michael in sharp, crystal clear quality for a change. The issue with his skin looking bluish in the outdoor scene wasn’t as apparent on the big screen, and then it was really only in that one scene. The picture was great throughout the entire film, and the audio sounded absolutely fantastic in the theater. It would be a dream come true if they could give all of Michael’s films the same restoration treatment. That box set I would be happy to buy!

And by the way, I understand people not wanting to stay for The House With a Clock in Its Walls, but it really wasn’t a bad film at all! Rather charming, especially if you have children with you, I think they would enjoy it very much.
