80% of Michael Jackson fans are INDEED crazy, delusional and embarassing. *runs out of thread*

I fail to see how MJ fans are more 'nutty' than any other fanbase out there. Must I call out the fans of Elvis who think that he hasn't become more than a mere product and still think that he's widely remembered for his music and contributions to it? The Beatles fans who think that ALL OF MUSIC wouldn't be possible had it not been for the fab four? Beyonce's fans who call her 'Beysus' and swear that she's the best thing since sliced bread. Lady Gaga fans who thinks that she's a genius even though she's proved nothing of the sort yet? Janet fans who fail to realize that her biggest and most significant market was in the US as as opposed to anywhere else in the world?

In reality, fans of anything and anyone are just that, especially on the internet. Most non-MJ fans call MJ fans insane because they think that they are supporting a guilty man and denying the outward 'truth' of nearly every media outlet out there with their 'crazy' findings. Even those who are being ,sorta, objective out there are still called ass kissers and crazy deluded fans. I know that this is a 'Unpopular Opinions' thread, but that's not an unpopular opinion, at all. I won't deny that MJ's fanbase, or any other fanbase, has its fair share of extremely dedicated people. It just disappoints me when I see this coming from within the fanbase, because it's not exclusive to MJ's fans as they make it out to be.

Note: I am not saying that he is guilty, at all.

Dude, I can't believe I've just read that on a Michael Jackson fan site. That is incredibly incorrect and unfair.

It's nearer 90%

That's a bit much. Do you not know any MJ fans in 'real life'? Most I've encountered are 'normal' and feel comfortable discussing Michael's flaws etc (as in they don't pretend that he didn't have any). 80% of MJJC, maybe, but you can't generalise what a fanbase of millions upon millions are like based on what you see here. People will say stuff and go off on rants online 'cause it's anonymous, doesn't mean they shout everyone down about Michael offline too. Casual fans aren't likely to sign up to a message board in the first place, for one thing. They're the people who are usually easiest to talk to about MJ.

I'm sorry if my post came across as being too harsh, but you guys have got to admit that certain fans really take it too far. This kind of behaviour mostly happens in the MJ vs Elvis/The Beatles/Madonna/Janet/Prince/ MJ's own family/Beyonce/Usher/Justin Timberlake/Chris Brown/ Lady Gaga/ Justin Bieber etc threads which do nothing except bring out the worst in the fanbase. Although I do blame trolls and troublemakers who get a kick out of creating these pissing-matches between artists and their fanbases.

i have now decided that this is the greatest thread, after seeing the last few posts, because it allows me to say this. anybody who considers MJ fans to be delusional, are envious of MJ. even if they are fans, themselves. and it's even more of a tribute to MJ, because his music has drawn the 'objective' ones. none of us know MJ enough to call any fan 'delusional'.:)

i'm a heterosexual guy, and i can understand those threads in Man In The Mirror section :)

All fans do this. I've seen Beyonce fans trash MJ as well. Elvis and The Beatles fans are really, really bad in that respect as well. They don't even consider MJ as a real musician and will deny facts up and down. While MJ fans are no different, they are hardly alone in that camp.

Don't even get me started on the Jacksons fans who think that Michael was nothing w/o them.

Hey, nothing wrong with being honest! I'm a heterosexual female and find those threads as intense psychological discussions in to the inner MJ.

Same... and its not like its a one time thing. Fans circulate topics like this ALL the time.. the same ol topics and then get mad when fans bash one another but yet they constantly make ridiculous topics like that... go figure.

if you really sit back and think about it...this kind of accusation cannot really hurt the fans of MJ, or hurt MJ himself, because it means that there are a lot of passionate fans out there, who buy multiple copies of his music. so..the greatest compliment an artist could get..especially MJ, (considering the media) is this 'accusation'. because that means, MJ's always doing well, and always has done well on the charts that count. one of them being sales.

if there is an artist out there, whose fans don't receive this accusation, well..that artist isn't wildly successful. if that artist does have said accused fans, then that artist has always been, and still is wildly successful.

I think MJ's fans are very passionate. Why they are passinate are as varied as the fans. Some things that matter to some do not matter to others. but I don't think that equates them to crazy. Passionate is a better word to me.

Passionate is a better word to me.

That's like preferring to call religious fundamentalists as simply... passionate.

Mark my words, most MJ fans who defend their fellow "passionate" MJ fans would have absolutely no problem in condemning their Elvis, Prince, Janet, Jacksons etc. counterparts as lunatics.

Well, I think passionate is a better word for most of them, let me rephrase. i don't think most are crazy, just passionate. And I think your analogy would work if we agreed that fans consider MJ as a religion. I think most do not they are fans not fanatical. Unless I am misunderstanding you.

Well I don't think that's the case. Though this is the unpopular opinions thread, afterall.

That was not an attack on you. it was joking. being cheeky, no need to be offended. It was humour attempting to come off with a computer. Sorry if it did not come across very well.

No, I'm not talking about the likes of the Anointed Michael Followers as, fortunately, most of us can dismiss them as nothing short of delusional.

However, with the analogy, I am trying to distinguish between good and bad passion, since all humans are by nature passionate. Examples in the fan community of such bad passion (that leads many to generalise us all as lunatics) is having virtually no scope in life beyond one pop star, and those who believe they know him or had/have some sort of spiritual connection to him and would defend him at all costs. All costs. Similarly, those who condemn all similar pop musicians for the sake of defensive jealousy that Mike is not the alpha and omega of the music world - this again goes back to having no scope beyond one pop star. Or those who strive to see themselves as the "best" or "bigger" fans and marginalise anyone who may have an inkling of criticism towards the man himself, forgetting the main reason why the overwhelming majority of us became fans in the first place, and that is the art.

Ah, I understand now. Sorry! But I think that the majority of his fans fall into a good passion. I certainly don't think 80% of them fall into a bad passion. Or that 80% of us fall exclusively into the bad passion. I wouldn't have a breakdown as I am not sure. but I think a fan can be sensible on one topic for MJ and too passionate when it comes to another. That one person's feelings for him can be very varied inside. Some will defend MJ to the death musically, but may not care so much about his private life. I think very few of us would be passionate in a bad way on all aspects of MJ.

I also think most of the fans on this board have a life outside of the board and their life doesnot revolve around MJ. He's just one piece of it.

that fans consider MJ as a religion.
Some do. I remember threads in the past comparing Mike to Jesus Christ, or saying he's the archangel Michael. I don't know if these threads are in the active forum, or in the archives, but I didn't understand what the point of these types of topics were. Some say that Mike was a pure and innocent saint that has never done anything wrong in his life.

i do think this title of this thread is the best ever, because there is no way anyone should be offended by whatever is said in here, because it's the title that emphasises, that everybody posting is posting nothing more than an opinion. although i used the word, in this post..i doubt that people can get too frustrated, or spend too much time reminding themselves, and one another, that every post is an opinion. i mean..i may have posted this before, but i'm just saying, that the person who started this thread, may have knowingly, or, unknowingly, at least, for this thread, alone, solved the problems that cause long term fights that get threads closed. lol this may be the most peaceful thread, delving down this path, that will ever be posted. i mean, sure, there may have been some moments, in this thread, but, they were the shortest moments i have ever seen in a thread of this nature.

indeed, anybody that gets carried away with long term fighting in this thread, does love fighting for the sake of fighting. perhaps i just posted an opinion there, but..hey...

and yes..i may have stated an opinion on many of the opinions in this thread, with this post.

also, i may have used up everybody else's opportunity to use that word, here..lol

There's generalizations and unpopular opinions.

Unpopular opinion: "I think that Britney Spears is a musical legend and her music is much better than that of Stevie Wonder's."

Generalization: "MJ fans can't appreciate good music if it bit them in the butt."

One could say that the generalization is an unpopular opinion, but there seems to be a big difference in between the both of them.
