How, pray tell, is it off-topic? I think it's been expanded upon, certainly, but the original topic of why the media seemed to make such a large issue out of something which shouldn't have even made the news is still at the center of the discussion. It's not like we're talking about pink unicorns or something equally unrelated. We are very much having a debate, and I think it's completely excellent that we are able to hold such debates on MJJC.

I'm curious as to why you seem to make such statements, yet provide no examples to justify your claims, or support your rationale.

What I do found interesting and makes me think this was staged is the fact that she had that little thinggy on her nipple. It didn't look like a piercing to me, looked more like something that was supposed to be there because they were supposed to flash her tit.

I'm glad Janet didn't apologize why should she? she didn't do anything wrong, Justin was the one who messed up, you can clearly see Janet's red lace bra under her costume.
It was a shame that Janet's career took the blow and not Justin's, Damita Jo was a good album, not her best but not by any standards rubbish, 20YO wasn't very good, but that's a different story.

No, but it was unnecessary and kind of stupid. In any case, both sides are at fault. Janet and Justin for (most likely) staging the whole thing as a cheap publicity attempt, and the FCC and media watch groups for making such a big deal out of something so stupid and harmless.

I don't think the whole thing was plan...JT was supposed to pull of some sort of fabric of her breast (not the whole thing). She looked genuinely shocked when the incident occured.

If you believe that, I have some lake-front property to sell you. The whole thing was planned by Janet. If the public and media hadn't reacted the way that they did, she would have been reveling in her glory and attention. Not even for an instance did I ever think that this was a malfunction or accident. It was planned.

Imo I don't think it was planned , her reaction afterwards does not seemed planned , inside editon showed footage someone shoot after the lights went out and the camera stopped shooting, and they were leaving the stage, and Janet looked absoutly humilated , you could see Justin trying to calm her down and sercurity guard had to calm her down and escort her off the stage. and that was before the media even gave there two cents , and the audience wasn't booing either, so I don't think Janet was waiting around for media approval.

and that's the part why everybody says Justin threw under her the bus not because he apologized ( and I don't even think Justin realizes this why people were saying that) , the fact is he gave a interview right after it happend happy and all gidy ,it was a worbrobe malfuction, and we love giving something to talk about . than a another interview a couple days before the grammys after all the media scrunity his tune changed a complete 180 , than it was I had nothing to do with , didn't know it happened, my mom was watching, I was horrified by it, and he clearly made it seemed exactly like Janet planned the whole thing and he didn't know nothing about it and like he was set up. I don't know if he did that because Janet apologized , but either way they should of talked to each other but Justin should of realized that it wasn't planned by her reaction alone.

It happened so fast alot of viewers didn't catch it until the media started to slow it down and replay it a million times like they did with Michael when he was showing Blanket to the fans over the blacony. This was an accident, if it was planned Janet wopuld not have looked so shocked and she would not have covered herself when she noticed something went wrong. Alot of people even forget that it was Justin Timberlake who pulled the piece of clothing off, he completely disregarded any responsibility untill last year when he said he felt bad for not coming to her defense.

There are worse thigns in the media than a nipple, most people children included have seen a nipple. It is indecent exposure but there are far more provocative magazine covers and advertisements.

I thought that advertisers like to have a 'large audience draw' for the Superbowl entertainment (so folk at home don't go off and make a coffee or whatever and keep watching the TV). I'm guessing the slip was intended to be entertaining but didn't quite hit the right note for a family show (even if the audience is probably largely male? by which I mean a certain amount of 'raunchiness' is expected ref. even female classical musicians have to dress a little provocatively to 'sell' their music nowadays ..) Once a negative bandwagon starts rolling, everyone else seems to join in. There's supposed to be no such thing as bad publicity, but I think with the Jackson family they are the exception that 'proves' the rule, so to speak. I think the outrage went overboard but I do understand the initial reaction. The Superbowl is a family event. It was too much. Even if he was only supposed to reveal a portion of her bra, that was too much for primetime tv with a major event like the Superbowl. What happened to just singing and dancing? My church has sponsored Superbowl viewings at the church, nobody wanted to see all that. And she was doing so well performing, Justin was unnecessary period. It just goes to show that she's not as bright as I once thought if she thought even revealing her bra would go over well.
