Today in Michael Jackson History April 23rd

HISTORICAL DATES

1974 - The Jackson Family plays the last of fifteen nights at the MGM Grand Hotel, Las Vegas (Nevada).

1983
- Michael Jackson's single "Beat It" hit #3 in the U.K.

1985 - The "We Are the World" album was released.

1988 - 'Get It' by Stevie Wonder and Michael enters the Black singles chart peaking at number 4 and remains on the charts for eleven weeks.

1992 - In The Closet' video is premiered on Fox TV, MTV and BET in America and on 'Top Of The Pops' in Britain. Michael co-directs the sepia colored music video with Herb Ritts, which features Jackson dancing with British supermodel Naomi Campbell. It was filmed in late March 1992 in Salton Sea, California and premiered on April 23, 1992. This video was Jackson's most sexually provocative piece ever. This video was banned in South Africa due to its imagery. The video is featured on Dangerous - The Short Films and Michael Jackson's Vision.

2008 - After recording Thriller 25 Michael begins working on new tracks at the Palms Recording Studio, Las Vegas (Nevada) in collaboration with producer/songwriters RedOne and Akon. While recording at the Palms studio, Jackson also sought to stay at the hotel with his young children, Prince, Paris and Blanket. He wanted complete privacy for his family. George Maloof owner of the Palms Hotel said he offered Michael the finest, and most secure, accommodations he could offer. Michael had first stayed in Hugh Hefner’s suite and then in two subsequent Sky Villas during his 4-month stay there. “It was very hush-hush, nobody knew he was there. But he did a lot of work at the Palms. It’s pretty remarkable, remembering it all now, actually.”

QUOTE OF THE DAY

" I just try to write wonderful music; and if they love it, they love it.
I don’t think about any demographic. [The record company] tries to
get me to think that way, but I just do what I would enjoy hearing."

~ Michael Jackson

I don't get the South Africa problem. What exactly were they complaining about? I mean this is the palace where dark Africans were treated like trash.

Those lines :)

I love those lines too. I have one of the front facing ones from that shoot framed on my wall. That shot in your siggy with Michael and Ortega is great. You can entitle it Finger to Finger.

^^Those lines again causing trouble. That shot of the back needs a sign reading "Too Hot To Handle."
