KANYE WEST CALLS HIMSELF 'THE NO. 1 ROCK STAR ON THE PLANET' IN BBC INTERVIEW

Kanye West is a lot of things, but insecure is not one of them. Sitting down with BBC Radio 1 personality Zane Lowe for an hour-long interview airing Monday, Sept. 23, the rapper, 36, called himself "the No. 1 rock star on the planet" and said he's here to push the boundaries of everything we think we know about art, music, fashion and culture.

In fact, the hip-hop star and new dad (to daughter North, 3 months, with Kim Kardashian) considers himself to be something of a revolutionary. Though he conceded that "there would be no Kanye West if it wasn't for Michael Jackson," he also said he'd reached a point that even the King of Pop hadn't seen in his lifetime.

"I've got to a point that Michael Jackson did not break down. I have reached the glass ceiling, as a creative person, as a celebrity ... and I've been at it for 10 years," he told Lowe. "I look around and I say, 'Wait a minute. There's no one around here that looks like me. And if they are, they're quiet as [expletive].' So that means, wait a second -- now we're seriously like, in a civil rights movement."

West went on to say that he's had a hard time getting people to see his potential. "I shouldn't be limited to only one place of creativity," he lamented. "You guys don't understand -- I did the Air Yeezys and they eBayed for $90,000 ... but I didn't get a call from Nike the next day."

In that way, he envies the empire his pal Jay Z has built. "Jay Z is more realized than me. More of his dreams and aspirations have come true," West said. "You don't realize -- I am so frustrated. Like, I've got so much I want to give ... And I've got a million people telling me why I can't do it."

The aspiring fashion designer thinks he can do it -- and he's determined to prove it. "I'm not trying to regurgitate myself," he said. "I showed people that I understand how to make perfect. You know, '[My Beautiful Dark Twisted] Fantasy' could be considered to be perfect. I know how to make perfect, but that's not what I'm here to do. I'm here to crack the pavement and make new grounds sonically ... and culturally."

He added: "We culture. Rap is the new rock 'n' roll. We the rock stars ... We the new rock stars and I'm the biggest of all of them. I'm the No. 1 rock star on the planet.

The "Black Skinhead" rapper also talked a little about Kardashian and their daughter. Asked whether he gets any time for himself, West said, "Yeah, it's like family time. That's what Kim gave me. She gave me everything, she gave me family, she gave me a support system. She was in a powerful enough situation where she could love me without asking me for money, which is really hard for me to find.

This guy is crazy.

Re: Yeezy: I'm bigger than Michael Jackson was

Well, nothing to see here, just someone talking utter crap...

Re: Yeezy: I'm bigger than Michael Jackson was

Oh please. I know American Idol finalists that are more popular than Kanye...

Re: Yeezy: I'm bigger than Michael Jackson was

No offense, but little-by-little Mr. West is losing his mind.

It's fine when a person (artist or non-artist) reaches for the stars, but it's a total NO-NO to start preaching that you are bigger then somebody else, in my opinion.

To be honest, in my further opinion, Kanye has LOST a lot of his shine. I really don't think many folks take him very seriously any more.

Re: Yeezy: I'm bigger than Michael Jackson was

His Kartrashian association is getting way over his head, he is bigger than Michael Jackson? LMAO in which universe?

Okayyy. want some publicity mention mike. sums it up that i had to click in the thread to see who yeezy actually is

He is confused. It was Michael that broke the glass ceiling that Kanye, JayZ, Usher, Beyoncé and the list goes on that enjoy the power and influence they have today. I am all for people having a drive and self confidence to be the best and reached for the stars. But a little humility goes a long way too.

Sort yourself out, man. Kanye hasn't done even half of what OTW did! haha

LOL OK.

Since when did marrying Kim Kardashian make you better than Michael Jackson? That's like saying my pinky toe is the most relevant thing out right now. Pfft. One chop. The thirst is real. He has me feeling a cactus myself -__-

This is hilarious

Yeah, I think he just talks total crap so people will actually remember he exists. He's either making good music............... Or acting like an asshole, or talking crap. Can you tell I don't like him yet :p

I'm a Kanye fan (leaning more towards "was" these days cuz his new album is straight up demonic lol) and I know that when he talks, 80% of the time you're left looking at him like...:crazy lol. Looks like this is no exception lol...

He's got a real talent for music, it's too bad that he's such an insufferable bastard.

Having the biggest selling album of all time, breaking down racial barriers and becoming the biggest superstar on the planet? Pfft that's nothing! Now marrying Kim Karsashian? That's a real achievement!

Micheal Jackson is the best. nobody can change that fact! Kanye is getting insane...

I'm not surprised. This man is always talking about how he's better than somebody, in my opinion. It was only a matter of time before he would mention Michael when saying something like that.

This Kanye has been gone for a long time now. When he first came out I thought he was so cool. I felt proud because he is from Chicago like me. But the man he was is long gone. I feel sorry for him. Everybody changes. It's just sad that he changed for the worse. He just seems so lost right now.

...Plus anyone who raps that they are a God obviously thinks they are better than Michael so I'm not surprised one bit.

He also says he is as much of an innovator as Steve Jobs...

I like some of his music, but the guy needs a reality check...
