30th Annual Grammy Awards (1988): What really happened ?

Always when watching this performance I get the feeling that MJ was getting back at them and the whole establishment the best way he knew how. There's so much emotions and it's just transcendental. That performance is just unprecedented, to this day.

What really happened during the 30th Annual Grammy Awards in 1988 ?

I refuse to accept that BAD was a soulless album (as it was said at that time).

Did MJ's change of image count against him ?

In my estimation, it was a premeditated decision.
English record producer Jonathan King explained what really happened at the 30th Annual Grammy Awards (1988).

According to him, the Grammy Awards are basically a matter of record companies' politics and behind-the-scenes machinations:

"Michael [Jackson] should have swept the board. But, this year it was A&M and WEA record companies' turn to win and that's why Sting and Paul Simon got their [Grammy] awards" (Jonathan King, 1988)

Jonathan King was a guy who knew the ropes of the music/entertainment industry.
