I don’t know if you pay attention to rap music but there’s a rap battle going on between two of the most famous rappers of this generation, Kendrick Lamar and Drake and somehow Michael has gotten caught in between this, and even Prince. I wanted to break this down for the people that may not be aware of this, so here we go..

So Drake has for a long time made the comparison between him and Michael because of himself breaking streaming records and all that. He’s also been paying homage to Mike a lot with his music videos, dances etc. In march the artist called Future released a song called ‘Like That’ featuring Kendrick Lamar, and in that song Kendrick said:

“Your best work is a light pack, N**** Prince outlived Mike Jack” - Kendrick Lamar

This immediately started internet discussions about the old never ending argument about who was the better artist: Prince or MJ? Drake then, a couple of weeks later, responded with his own diss song called push ups where he said:

”What's a prince to a king? He a son, n****” - Drake

Disses aside, the MJ aspect seemed to be tongue in cheek and not something serious, but it took a darker turn on their last diss records. Kendrick responded with a 6 minute diss track called euphoria in which he name dropped Michael and Joe which seemed to just be apart of a witty entendre and nothing deeper, but then, back to back, Kendrick released another diss song called 6:16 where he spoke about Drakes camp being infiltrated by double agents. In this song Kendrick ended the song by saying:

”It's time you look around on who's around you, before you figure that you're not alone
Ask what Mike would do.”
Kendrick

Now, what happened next is in my opinion absolutely disgusting and just reinforces the opinion that I’ve had of drake for a long time, that he’s an opportunist that will attach himself to anything that will boost his image. Drake then released another diss called ”Family Matters” where he said

”It’s all on your face like what happen to Mike
Oh s**t, it’s all making sense, maybe I’m Prince and you actually Mike
Michael was praying his features would change so people believe that he’s actually White
Top would make you do a features for change, get on pop records and rap for the Whites” - Drake

They’re going back and forth and unfortunately Mike seems to be caught up in this. They’re never going to let Michael’s name rest and I’m sure were going to be hearing more of this. I’m not sure how far they will take it but considering Kendrick is claiming that drake is a p**phile, I’m just waiting for the inevitable. Just wanted to share this with y’all.

I've not heard Darke's newest Diss track but so far, I think Kendrick has him beat.

Thought the MJ reference initially was pretty relevant, Drake compares himself to Michael in terms of superstar status etc.

Unfortunately it does seem things are about to take a nasty turn, they better not mention allegations next.

Kendrick absolutely has him beat. “Meet the Grahams” is a really vile song. There’s no coming back from that for Drake.

Regarding the allegations, I’m hoping it doesn’t happen but that’s where I see this going.

I don't normally follow rap culture honestly, but I do like Kendrick's music, he's a massively talented guy. I did notice Michael getting referenced too mate

Kendrick has massive respect for Mike and he's spoken highly of him often.

As for the battle, it was never in doubt and after Meet The Graham's it's over. That track was wild

@Themidwestcowboy ty for opening up this thread. It is quite hard hitting Psychology for you and me and perhaps some others to discuss..and whilst it is on a much ...more...[not sure I can find the words ... for the utter disrespect for both m and P being used here ] level regarding their 'battle' ...... these [ to me] wannabes ...should probably take both the names out their mouths now.it's still interesting to me.

But ...i'm just thinking of my own reaction here you know ..im just thinking of how i never liked Drake ...i was dissing him here only a few years back...[glad i got that right] He's like a snapping puppy biting ankles and how ..well , i'm simply neutral to Kendrick. ....like i couldn't give a doo doo daisy about him...🤷‍♀️ ....Guess that, after seeing this, i would think i have K's back a little more...[we'll see.. cause i can't get over how out of order that first remark is...yet still don't care for either this time round.] To me it is an element of my history mantra kind of repeating in that sense.

Anyway between you n me , I'm interested in this mainly cause i wanna see how this ends. ..or if it ever does.I do see Drake wetting his pants over each and every reply he sends .. I think they are as bad as each other though. ironically. @Themidwestcowboy

I'll come back to this thread. thanks again.

On a more positive note if we are on the subject the names to 'represent' m now adays i think ,..is the wonderful Offset. He really has respect. I also still think Skrillex and The Weeknd , in terms of solid originality, work ethic and global status household names. 💕But for Prince... I'm not sure who i could think of. You have me thinking today which one's could represent the Prince. 💕

Recently listened to meet the grahams and felt pretty uncomfortable throughout.

Some real nasty stuff from Kendrick, I'm sure Drake will respond but if I was him, I'd retreat quietly.

For real mate.. Meet the Grahams was truly vicious, I love Kendrick as well. He’s my favorite rapper today and he’s always shown enormous respect to MJ. I just hope it stays that way.

the thing with drake is that he is so fake, this is the same guy that always praises MJ, featured MJ in his album and has dolls of MJ propped up in his studio. It’s so disingenuous

I agree. It was a vicious song

mj dolls in the studio... does Kendrick act this way ?

edit- kind of annoying. can't take it seriously tbh.

Realize these guys are both in their late 30s. Pathetic.
This has nothing to do with age. Drake has had this coming for a long time. This fake persona hes cultivated through the years had to be torn down. Drake just happens to be one of the most famous and influential rappers of today so no matter who went against him and tried to speak the truth always got ignored. The only other most famous influential rapper of today is Kendrick Lamar and Drake has avoided head on collisions with him but sending subliminal digs. This is much deeper than just rap or music. He's being exposed for what he truly is.

Yeah. Although I didn't care for the "Prince outlived Mike Jack" line, I grew up in the Era of rap beefs and battles, so I didn't take it as something disrespectful to Michael but more so a dig at Drake since Drake's head is gassed up thinking he's on Mike's level. So, to me, it was just a reply to a diss. I've seen an interview where Kendrick has stated that Michael would be apart of a dream collab of his and Kendrick has paid a bit of a homage to MJ in performances while dressed in MJ esque attire with the sequined glove as well. Kendrick also sampled a small portion of MJs lyrics to "Smooth Criminal" on his song "King Kunta." Though Kendrick has hit back at Drake with allegations of him dating underage girls, I don't think he will disrespect Mike--he seems to respect him. If he wanted to bring up the false allegations against Mike, I think he would have done that by now. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Kendrick stated that he didn't want to surpass MJs record of Grammy nominations for Thriller when he was nominated for many of them for his own album. He said Mike is a legend and he couldn't fathom being as great as Michael. That said, please stream Thriller with MJ fans when The Thriller Challenge comes around so we can stop Drake from breaking MJs record of number one Billboard hits...right now, they are tied. Here is a link where Kendrick is talking about not wanting to tie with MJ for most Grammy nominations for an album:

Nope. It's fascinating how incredibly lame this whole thing is. Grown adults doing this. Millionaires.

Also, no to apartheid man.
We don't want black people coming to speak on a subject they know nothing about either. I just know everybody here speaking on it, without knowledge. I can tell by the entitlement in their voice.

Meanwhile you are where, exactly? The New York Public Library? Researching crisis?

No, buddy, you are on Michael Jackson Community, your favorite album is probably HIStory. You love hearing rich famous black men air out their feelings. You're just elitst about it.

What about John Lennon recording How Do You Sleep about Paul McCartney or Lennon saying in an interview that Paul made "granny music"? Paul replied with Silly Love Songs. Or the fueds between the Van Halen brothers vs David Lee Roth/Sammy Hagar & Joe Tex vs. James Brown. Or groups where members got into fist fights with each other like The Police, New Edition, Van Halen, Mötley Crüe, etc. Same for professional athletes. There's also the soap opera of Fleetwood Mac.

@innuendo141

Brother, that’s a surface understanding of what’s really going on here. This “rap battle” in questions is not about money, or status or clout, at least from Kendrick Lamar’s perspective. What Kendrick has done in his songs is called out Drake for,

1. Using and appropriating black culture (just as he did using MJ when it was convenient for him and then turning around and talking badly about him), when it’s convenient for him and he’s also called out the fact that Drake reinforces negative stereotypes of black culture like for example using black face among other stuff.

2. He’s also calling out the fact that there is evidence, video evidence, that drake has been linked to underage girls.

There are a lot of other shady and bad things he has done to other artists and the culture itself that people have conveniently ignored and that is what Kendrick is talking about. Being an adult doesn’t mean you have to turn a blind eye to stuff like this. Or are you saying that just because they’re millionaires artists shouldn’t address these very important things that are clearly going on in the music industry? By that logic, HIStory shouldn’t have been made either.

This thing is not about who is the most car or the most expensive house. Kendrick Lamar is above that as he is one of the few popular mainstream rap artists that raps about conscious topics. The reason why I posted this here is because of MJ’s indirect involvement here. Like it or not this has been the most trending topic on Twitter (X) for the last few weeks.

I grew up in the Era of rap beefs and battles,
In the early years of hip hop, diss records were boasting about who had the best MC skills, like Kool Moe Dee vs LL Cool J. The songs weren't personal attacks, it was more like trash talking in sports or "ya mama" jokes. LL & Moe Dee were cool with each other behind the scenes. The more personal beefs & diss songs started to happen in the 1990s with the whole East Coast & West Coast conflict. Which resulted in things like the shootout at The Source Awards and the deaths of Tupac & Biggie. There was more gang affiliation in the 1990s era. Even today, rappers are getting killed regularly.

80s baby here. This I know and I agree. This did get out of hand on a personal attack level.

Kendrick has said "He made Billie Jean - you think he touched those kids?"

Which is a great line because that story is literally a tale of how MJ would never get caught by a user and a false incrimation technique. No matter how hard they try. And just shows to how much respect he has for the man.
