Actually we don't know if Dr. Gardner believed him because his evaluation was never leaked, just the interview. But there are reasons to believe Gardner did NOT believe him:
1) If he had, probably his evaluation would have leaked as well. Since the interview was leaked by a hater site in 2003 (possibly run by Ray Chandler).
2) The Chandlers did not stay with Gardner. Soon they jumped to another psychiatrist, namely Stan Katz, who did the evaluation of the children in the McMartin pre-school trial. As it turned out the evaluation methods in that trial were highly questionable (you can read about this trial here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McMartin_preschool_trial ). If they had been satisfied with Gardner (ie. Gardner said what they wanted to hear) why to seek out Katz instead?
Besides Katz and Gardner there was a third psychiatrist involved: Dr. Mathis Abrams who reported Jordan's claims. The trick is that when a child claims such things to a psychiatrist the psychiatrist is obliged to report it to authorities, without pondering whether it's true or not. That's exactly why Evan took Jordan to a psychiatrist: so that the psychiatrist reports it and not him. In this case he couldn't be held accountable for false allegations later...
But in 2005 Dr. Abrams said in an interview that he did not have time to really evaluate Jordan and he could not examine if his allegations were true or not and he also said he thought it was possible that the boy was trained. But he didn't really have time to evaluate him, because the Chandlers only used him to report to the authorities and then never went to him again.
As for the rest, we all know it's a lie that Jordan's description matched. Someone should ask that leading investigator if it matched how come Michael wasn't arrested? Also how come Michael was NOT circumcised and Jordan said he was? Would you call that a match?
As for the book, they always forget to mention Michael's inscription in it: "Look at the true spirit of
happiness and joy in these boys' faces. This is the spirit of boyhood, a life I never had and will always dream of. This is the life I want for my children, MJ."
He obviously did not think of it as erotica. That book is also in the library of congress. It's an art book. Pedophiles may have a book like this but I guarantee to you that's not the only thing they will have! They will have lots of child porn, not just the odd art book in a collection of several thousand art books. Also if Michael was a pedophile and kept this book for that purpose, how come he didn't have tons of these type of books - in either 1993 or 2003?
If Im not mistaken even Ray Chandler (the uncle of Jordan) did too.
