Michael 3rd Most Legendary

MJ fans can be deluded at times for sure, but this is not the case here this time. Michael IS more well known than Elvis is worldwide and that is just a FACT. I saw a documentary on MTV a few years ago and it stated that Michael was the biggest brand in the world behind Pepsi and Nike! 99.9% of the world's population knows who Michael Jackson is. And no one here is downplaying the accomplishments of Elvis Presley or anyone else, but he's never been as popular as Michael is/was overseas.

I don't think some people, MJ fans or not, understand just how HUGE Michael was at the peak of his career. I don't think any artist has had a bigger or more diverse fanbase than Michael. Michael is probably the most famous person alive and that's not me talking as some crazy obsessed fan, but that is the truth. I think the singer Mya said it best when she said "There are stars, there are superstars and then there's Michael Jackson" . He is just in a league of his own. He's on a completely different level than everyone else in terms of stardom and worldwide popularity.

i agree with you, although i would have to point out the level of arrogance & contempt in which alot of mj fans vent at other artists.thats my point.comments such as 'he owns elvis & f#cked his daughter' & calling the beatles 'beetless' is so hypocritical coming from jackson fans whom feel jackson is wrongly accused, misunderstood etc..it's damn out of order & goes against the grain of everything michael jackson stands for,yet its 'his' fans making the such comments!
we are all aware that michael is the most 'known' artist.the name charlie chaplin was known all over the world in the late 18 hundreds as much as the name jackson is & is still widely recognized today 100 years later as being one of the most 'known'.

im a michael jackson fan & was around in the 80's & it was amazing.alot of todays fans are one sided.i find some of the older fans a little more realistic & graceful to be quite honest.its just a little funny if not amusing.

if you have seen MJ's list of achievments you would know that MJ fans can afford to be arrogant, and Michael literally does own Elvis and the Beatles cos he has some of there songs ;)

and stop attacking the fans, ur making us sound like haters which were not we're asking for MJ to get his due, people like you are the ones who over rate acts like Elvis

superb comment & totally true.very realistic & i agree with all of it.nobody on planet earth has influenced popular music more then the beatles.very well said:lol:

Elvis nor the Beatles has had NO influence here in Africa , here in Africa people don't care about them AT ALL .

BUT michael is and has always been hugely popular here , i don't know why you don't answer about Africa don't you have any argument ?

man you talk poo, how are u getting "fans not wanting to hear others having legacy" from fans actually saying that MJ has a much greater legacy status etc, people here have excepted that elvis and the beatles have accomplished but they aint accepting that they are bigger then mike, stop making sh1t up.

this is coming from a person who's name includes the word CONSTIPATION :toofunny:

i dont think you are at all constipated, their seems to be alot of sh#t coming out of you :toofunny:

I say that because he said " mj is huge in Australi , so does Elvis , mj is huge in Germany so does Elvis " so to him Elvis is as popular as mj worldwide , and i say NOT AT ALL because here in Africa we don't care about him ,but he never argues about Africa i don't know why .

So, is Elvis popular in Africa ?

Well I don't agree with putting down other artists all the time or trying to make it seem like Michael is the only accomplished artist in music and everyone else sucks which is the attitude some MJ fans, especially the younger ones seem to have. I do however understand their frustration. I think a lot of the reason MJ fans talk badly about Elvis and The Beatles is because a lot of us are just tired of all the negativity surrounding Michael and tired of all the praise that these two acts get. I mean no doubt they were great and made huge impacts in music and pop culture, but I for one am tired of all the praise they get by the media. The Beatles and Elvis are not the only acts who have made contributions to music but the media would like people to think that. We just want Michael to get his due and get the respect as an artist that he so deserves.

Constantly putting down other acts is not the way to go about this though. Michael is a great artist whose talent can stand on it's own without constantly having to berate other artists. It's just that my frustration comes in when they overrate some of these acts. It's nothing against some of these acts themselves really, it just has to do with the media and their constant overpraising.

I do not believe that Elvis is popular any where right now and he hasn't been since the 50's and early 60's. When he died he was semi retired or was doing vegas. One or 2 hits here and there. Elvis was essentially rock and roll and that died out in the 60's. Rock and roll is terribly out of date and you would have to be very old or simply love that type of music to be into Elvis. The amazing thing about MJ and his music is that it is ever fresh and fits into any era. Unlike RnR which is simply assigned to history. Unless young people are taught about that period, they are simpy not interesed in that type of music.

I've never seen a student who was into elvis, old motown stuff from the 60s-70s yes but not elvis or the beatles, have run into alot of MJ fans though

I know you know , but i was asking it to ELVIS cow- Bows , i need elvis fans give the answer :

IS Elvis popular in Africa ?

you have never addressed me in regards to africa & you say i don't answer? anyways...

in regards to africa, besides the south africa of which the beatles are known,no the are probably not known in wider africa along with elvis,i mean their white? thats a bit of a no brainer.plus africa is rooted in more of black cultural tribal and other types of music? i dont know, havent been:)

michael is the greatest.#1.but not the only human being to have effected the world.that is my point & you should know that being a black person (i presume) & coming from africa.look at mandela.look at how that man has connected & bonded with the world.

my argument is that some fans feel the need to knock down others when their hero has spent a large part of his life being knocked.

im as much an mj fan as the next person.seen him live.25 years of joy (heartbreak sometimes) but that doesnt mean im gonna disrespect others that left a huge mark in modern culture. that is my point!

thank you.i really appreciate this comment & agree with the sentiment wholeheartedly.

my only real frustration here is that respect is a two-way street.you understood my comments & took the time to read them in there entirety.thank you:)

i think michael is gonna get alot of repect this year & gonna surprise a few of his critics.i have a gut feeling this is gonna be an incredibly important & massive year for him.

Don't worry , here there is not only tribal music we also hear western music a lot and psecificaly american music .

Don't worry about that ,african do know about Elvis and the Beatles but the fact is THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT them , they don't consider their music as something huge because they are not impressed AT ALL .

And sorry but i don't think that if mj's fans think mj is bigger than Elvis is because of some revenche or something like that , but just because it is THE TRUTH .

If we were already during the Bad era or Dangerous era when mj's image was very good yet , i think we would not be here discussing about this because without ANY doubt michael would have had the number 1 place which is due .

In Europe and America , we spend all our childhood to hear that Elvis and the Beatles are the greates of all time WORLDWIDE , we are brainwashed all our chilhood by the medias

While the fact is far from what they say .

MJ has met ALL the PRESIDENTS of all the countries he went to , did Elvis or the Beatles meet just 1 .

MJ has been named the KING of a country in Africa , what about Elvis or Beatles ?

Just 1 figure , when mj came here in Africa (Gabon) 100 000 people went just to receive him at the airport wereas the city counts only 350 000 inhabitants , what about Elvis .

MJ has touched ALL kind of hearth , race white people , black people , asian , indians love mj , is the case for Elvis or Beatles ? the case is that for them ONLY WHITE PEOPLE all over the world do like their music , even in america black people don't care about the Elvis and Beatles things , but the fact is that it's white people who have the power all over the world the medias power is white so tha's why you believe that Elvis is huger than MJ

Black have not any power to impose their voice , if that was the case don't worry that the Elvis and Beatles would not have been in list AT ALL , soory tha's the TRUTH .

what part of my comment did you not understand? why do you feel the need to defend yourself against me as if im the problem? i don't even think you understood what ive been saying all along?
most black people are rooted in black culture, most white people are rooted in white culture. what is your point?
i have not actually ever said that anyother artist is "BIGGER" than michael jackson.i have simply defended the right to allow respect for other artists & not resort to name calling or using lame types of comments, which, the type have been aimed at michael for years;)
i understand you are from africa & might be misunderstanding me or just not understand what ive said.
people are aware of the elvis & beatles but don't care? oh i dont know about that & the black vs white issue is something that plays a part for sure.its life.as for people not caring about those other artists,i really couldn't care less.i care about them.they matter to me in musical terms.& elvis mattered to enough people (in this poll) to be voted #1.its probably mostly white, middle aged, working class americans that have voted to the majority.i really dont know & i don't feel the need to feel resentment to michael coming in at #3 in a poll that means nothing.
my point is that you respect other human beings, tastes, opinions,& musical, cultural & artistical likes.thats my point & my point only.
i dont no what part of my posts some people are not understanding but people whom seem to read my comments in full seem to understand it.perhaps if you took the time & not expected me to vent a 'me versus them' comment you would get it.
other than that i really don't have any answers more so than you do.i only have my personal life experience to go on (like every body else).peace out.

I'm going to contact some people that I have kept in contact with (non U.S. or European) from various countries.. I'll ask then this simple question..

These artists.. What is your thoughts?? The Beatles, Elvis, Michael Jackson...

Michael Jackson is the MOST legendary entertainer that has ever lived.. He's a legend in every sence of the word.

MOST of the middle East, Most of Africa would not even be able to tell you who Elvis is.. Yes things are changing as the online community grows and people learn more as they connect to western civilization... But I will tell you FOR SURE.. Before the online age.. Michael was known and LOVED ALL OVER...

I lived in Libya for a few years, no one that I did not meet ONE person that knew who Elvis was.. Now some people I keep in contact with start to know Elvis because of enternet.. As they do 50 cent and other 'todays' artists.. But when I lived there 1990-1994 they would not be able to tell you who Elvis or the Beatles were.. But Michael Jackson.. Lets just say I have been to a MICHAEL JACKSON STORE in Libya. full of tapes and VHS's.. You can go to the local market in the tape section Michael Jackson would be the ONLY American artist along with the arab musicians. IN Libya I have seen Michael Jackson shirts, tapes, posters, candy... Never have I seen or heard of ANYTHING pertaining Elvis or the Beatles.. My father was born and raised in Libya, he said he did not know who Elvis was untill he came to College here in the U.S..

This is like this, not just in Libya, but MANY countries.......

Many people think something is 'BIG' just because OUR culture tells us so.. You know in Libya they did not know what cereal was in the 90's untill I went to a specific market to buy American products..

Rice Crispy's.. NOPE.. lol!

The world is MUCH bigger than what some people think.. Once you travel it, it changes your prospective in EVERY WAY...

I know what you mean and PLEASE !!! don't say that i don't understand NOTHING because i am from Africa , i think girl you need to leave your country just ONCE to know that there are another BIG places in this world than anglosaxon or western countries ok ?, i think you were too much brainwashed by the medias concerning Africa .

In Africa there are a lot of young people , a lot of people live like in western without denying their culture ok ?

We go to the cinema , we have televisions , washing machines , Clubs , parties , boys like dressing like black american rappers ,girl like dressing like black american rappers , there schools , universities , we know who Beyonce or Alycia Keys are , Tina Turner , and of course Elvis and the Beatles etc... so please don't speak like here in Africa we don't know nothing about the world just because you are brainwashed by medias' images .

Regarding the "respect " you are speaking about , why couldn't you just understand that if mj's fans think mj is bigger that's just because they REALY think that and not because they just want to be disrespectfull ,is it too difficult ??? .

I don't disrespect AT ALL Elvis or The Beatles , but I realy think MJ is bigger all over the world than them .

I say that just logicaly , by doing the maths :

The Beatles and Elvis are BIG in 4/5 continents
MJ is BIG in 5/5 continents , 3 rd in America is just HUGE to somebody who has been disrecting for years now , he has better place than all the artist still living like him (Madonna , Steve Wonder , etc...) and it is an AMERICAN poll .

Maybe you didn't know that there was a 5th continent called Africa , did you ?, where a lot of people live like you in Ireland or in America , i just want you stop to disrespecting this beautifull continent please .

The problem is, that some people believe that if someone is huge in one place, that he is huge everywhere else. That's the reason why there aren't any real superstars in today's current scene by what I merit the word as meaning. I bet there are many kids my age who believe that Justin Timberlake is the biggest current star in the world.

And I'm not saying that Elvis was only big in America or saying he and JT are in the same league, but Presley is predominantly a part of Western culture.

Michael Jackson and his music are well known and renowned in the Americas and Europe, but also places like Africa, Asia; even the Middle East. I originally became a Michael Jackson fan in the early 90s as a little kid in Pakistan. Thriller was still huge there, even though it was already old. I consider myself lucky for that, because people my age who lived in America their whole lives might not have grew up on Thriller, Billie Jean, Beat It, Smooth Criminal, BAD, etc. But I did in the same way people in the 80s did, because it was still huge in my community. One of my earliest memories in life is watching Moonwalker at my mother's friend's house. That's the sort of universal appeal that goes beyond marketing and promotion.

i havent read all this comment because you cleary havent read a word of mine!

i did not say 'you dont understand anything',i said if you "misunderstood" or could not "understand" what im saying, that "i" could "understand" & i asked "what part of my comment you did not understand"?

i have traveled alot of the world.so for yourself here & perhaps anyone else that are clearly not seeming to be able to understand a word ive said including "no one is "bigger" then michael jackson, ive spent 1985-1987 living in america (miami) as a child, ive spent the last 20 years living between ireland & portugal because my father lives in portugal.in the last 8 years ive spent a year in australia,4 months living in new york,3 months in india,a month in new zealand,2 months in thailand,a week in burma,2 weeks in malaysia, ive been to germany a few times, hungrey, spain alot because its 2 hours from the algarve where my father lives, gibraltar,& gran canaria for 6 months, england to see my football team a few times.

i would say im pretty well traveled to be honest.& in most of those places (not all) ive found certainly beatles more than elvis items.im not a collector of any of them, just cds or records.
i only collect 3 artists of which elvis & beatles i don't.
but my "biggest" collection is my michael jackson collection that ive been collecting for 25 years.

anyways.im gonna have to leave this thread for real now because its such a waste of time having to constantly rehash & restate "THAT NOBODY IS BIGGER THAN MICHAEL JACKSON,BUT I COULD UNDERSTAND WHY ELVIS WOULD WIN A POLL LIKE THIS" not merely for his musical achievements which are "SMALLER THAN MICHAEL JACKSON" but because he was a patriot (which caries massive respect in your home country & anything against hittler is gonna earn you massive respect),he loved his mother,he loved his daughter,he died young with virtually no scandal other than his death, with his first pay-check he bought his mother a car,he was a christian & a million other qualities that people (mostly white working class middle aged & musicians like myself, like & identify with!

there is "no" conspiracy here & nobody trying to fool anybody thinking that elvis is bigger, better, whatever than michael jackson.that theory held by some here is a little OTT (over the top) to say the least.

please don't respond to this comment as it just seems to not go anywhere.im not fighting with you or anyone else here, but this thread is like banging my head against a brick wall.
& theres no need to quote this comment as i wont be responding.thanks, peace out.

& by the way,im not a girl,im a man & ive not at all been brain washed by anglosaxon theory's,white politics, propaganda or western culture.ive seen the world (not africa yet) but one day i hope to.im also irish & alot of us actually relate to african & jamaican culture & black culture because of the politics & history of our own country & because we've also come from slavery & the like.bob marley is my brothers hero & michael jackson is mine.both black men that have transcended white culture.

on that note ive simply nothing more to say here, because no matter what points i try to make,no matter how objective i try to be,its misunderstood, contradicted & words put into my mouth which i have not said.so good luck with it.

mixing up 2 different arguments here if not 3. The vote was cast by an American public. I happen to believe that the pole was largely white and middle-class, probably middle-aged too. I say middle-aged because they are the group who would have had some experience of Elvis or Frank Sinatra.
I believe that the pole was a good pole for MJ and we as fans should be celebrating this. Reason is that MJ has been maligned over the past 15 years while the people who came before him has been uplifted and praised. Also MJ is competing in a country where he had to fight hard and breakdown walls to have them even put his face on their magazines let alone play his music on tv. So this is another milestoe for MJ, and come to think of it, he came in first of all the living celebs, so that means that he is still recognised and respected by a large section of the public. There were others who were white that could have come before home. I am thinking of Jim Reeves, and Jonny Cash to name but a few. Elvis does have a legendary voice, that doesn't mean he is the best.

Some are going off WAY off topic.. ELVIS = no scandle?? lol! OK, he was one of the most contriversal people of his time.. Through his dance, the way he lived.. etc.. He started a relationship with Priscilla when she was 14 years old.. Which many would consider molestation, since he was 24 years old..

A Christian?? Singing and releasing christian music does not make a person 'Christian'... Nor does being RAISED around and/or as a christian..

I'm not saying I don't like Elvis.. I think he is ONE of the greats. But he is not the GREATEST.. He's not The FIRST.. He's not nearly as special as many western countries think he is..

I have been to Northern countries in Africa, Lived in Libya, have been to places in the Middle East (and surrounding countries)

I can tell you FIRST HAND.. ELvis and the Beatles are not ANYWHERE near Michael Jackson in those areas. The country I lived in.. You would not find ONE Elvis or Beatles thing in, but could find a Michael Jackson album at any local music stand/store..

Yet people if I were to show a DRAWING of Michael Jackson they would know exactly who it is, sing melodies to his songs, and know his basic dance moves etc..

For some people it's just too hard to understand.. WHat is HUGE in one area, does not mean it's everywhere..

Michael Jackson was even crowned 'King Sani' in Gabon, a West African neighbor nation of Senegal.

His WORLDWIDE noterity is untouched

Michael was put on some dollar bill in some caribbean country too, and he was given the red carpet treatment by all the heads of states for the country he visited. He was treated like a real king. I guess that was why the media was so scared of him and determined to bring him down.

i havent read all this comment because you cleary havent read a word of mine!

i did not say 'you dont understand anything',i said if you "misunderstood" or could not "understand" what im saying, that "i" could "understand" & i asked "what part of my comment you did not understand"?

i have traveled alot of the world.so for yourself here & perhaps anyone else that are clearly not seeming to be able to understand a word ive said including "no one is "bigger" then michael jackson, ive spent 1985-1987 living in america (miami) as a child, ive spent the last 20 years living between ireland & portugal because my father lives in portugal.in the last 8 years ive spent a year in australia,4 months living in new york,3 months in india,a month in new zealand,2 months in thailand,a week in burma,2 weeks in malaysia, ive been to germany a few times, hungrey, spain alot because its 2 hours from the algarve where my father lives, gibraltar,& gran canaria for 6 months, england to see my football team a few times.

i would say im pretty well traveled to be honest.& in most of those places (not all) ive found certainly beatles more than elvis items.im not a collector of any of them, just cds or records.
i only collect 3 artists of which elvis & beatles i don't.
but my "biggest" collection is my michael jackson collection that ive been collecting for 25 years.

anyways.im gonna have to leave this thread for real now because its such a waste of time having to constantly rehash & restate "THAT NOBODY IS BIGGER THAN MICHAEL JACKSON,BUT I COULD UNDERSTAND WHY ELVIS WOULD WIN A POLL LIKE THIS" not merely for his musical achievements which are "SMALLER THAN MICHAEL JACKSON" but because he was a patriot (which caries massive respect in your home country & anything against hittler is gonna earn you massive respect),he loved his mother,he loved his daughter,he died young with virtually no scandal other than his death, with his first pay-check he bought his mother a car,he was a christian & a million other qualities that people (mostly white working class middle aged & musicians like myself, like & identify with!

there is "no" conspiracy here & nobody trying to fool anybody thinking that elvis is bigger, better, whatever than michael jackson.that theory held by some here is a little OTT (over the top) to say the least.

please don't respond to this comment as it just seems to not go anywhere.im not fighting with you or anyone else here, but this thread is like banging my head against a brick wall.

You know at the first place i wanted Bob George and the elvis'fans answer to my question , but unfortunately they prefer ignoring it because they have NO argument about that .

My question was ,and what about in Africa ? but nobody except you answered to it , and i think you are not the one who truly think elvis is bigger but the two other elvis fans who didn't want to answer to my question .

However i think you disrespected my Continent by saying about the "root" ,the "tribal music" as if we don't know nothing about western music except our tribal music .

But i repeet : Africa Knows about Elvis and the Beatles BUT they don't care about them because they are not touched AT ALL by their music , they don't consider their music as something huge or impressive , which is the total contrary for michael , Africa realy loves him and even after the allegations most of them don't believe a word of that .

So is it because Elvis end the Beatles are white ?? don't know , maybe yes , maybe no
But the fact is that they don't care .

Elvis is huge in western continents 3/5 continents (maybe 4 but i realy think mj is bigger in Asia than him)
MJ is huge in 5/5 continents because there are 5 continents and not 4 remember that please ! it's not being disrespectfull towards elvis for believing .

That's good to know. Africa loves MJ. And just cuz they have more Elvis/Beatles collectibles in their market isn't representative of anything. I don't think that MJ produces THAT much collectibles that are just willy-nilly OUT THERE. LOL
