My final thought about the quality:

I'm really disappointed and saddened by the picture quality and I still haven't decided whether I'll buy DVD or not. But I probably will because it is Michael Jackson and if I bought Vision, MICHAEL and Immortal, I can buy this also. Even in poor quality it is still much better than all those shitty/half fake releases. Of course the concert is amazing and for us fans the picture quality is ok and watchable, but imagine all other people who is going to buy BAD25. When they put their DVD into their DVD players, they will say "WTF is this, I want my money back". Imagine if you bought DVD of any other artist in that quality, what would your reaction be?

With all due respect man, what kind of quality were you expectin from an 25 year old VHS tape that has been copied from another tape and that has been watched numerous of times?

I actually expected this quality, or even worse. Because I've seen the original Bad trailer and I've read the statement by John Branca and the Estate. But outside fan community no one knows nothing about what quality to expect when they buy this DVD. They will be disappointed.

i can't imagine a person who will say "WTF is this, I want my money back" after watching dvd and listening cds.

I'm talking just about DVD quality. All 3 CD's will be awesome for fans and for non fans. DVD will be awesome just for us fans.

i can say for sure that all my non-MJ-fans friends will enjoy it in this quality. And my mother too.

I needed not explain this again, but just in case:

The entire July 16, 1988 performance that will be available on the DVD is a rip from Michael's own 24-year-old VHS tape, which he has watched possibly dozens of times and has worn down with age. The Estate chose an unnamed restoration company that have worked with NASA in the past to restore the footage to the best possible quality. The performance isn't taken from the 35mm tapes. The quality will not be as good as the Moonwalker intro. Yes, the quality is 6/10 for normal standards, but taking into consideration its origin, the quality is 9/10. This is one of, if not THE best VHS transfer I've ever seen. I'm almost sure that the Estate will note that the performance was sourced from a VHS somewhere in the box set/on the back of the standalone release. Unless a standard fan doesn't read it, they have no reason to be shocked or disappointed. Personally, if I bought a DVD of this quality from any other artist, I would check its back story (where the footage came from mostly). If it came from a low quality source, I would be fine with it. If it came from a high quality source and just looked terrible, then I would demand my money back. The DVD is coming from a low quality source. So don't expect miracles.

A huge percentage of the fan base, from what I've read and heard, are very pleased with the final quality taken from the APOM performance. But there is that one handful of fans who have to nitpick and act as if the Estate is in possession of the masters, but choose not to release them. We can yell, scream and shout all we want. But we need to realize that we're getting what we're getting. For now, this is the only way we can see the Wembley concert. So why focus on what we WISH happened and pay more attention to what is happening?

Again, this is a VHS tape. I know these days everybody expects BLU ray quality but let's be real here. The estate did eveything in their power to make it good quality and imo, they succeeded. It is good quality considering the circumstances. The audio is perfect and the performance will blow you away or ANYONE AWAY!

I actually expected this quality, or even worse. Because I've seen the original Bad trailer and I've read the statement by John Branca and the Estate. But outside fan community no one knows nothing about what quality to expect when they buy this DVD. They will be disappointed.

No, they won't be disappointed, AGain it is pretty good quality considering. The performance is so great who is going to care if the quality is not blu ray??

I'm talking just about DVD quality. All 3 CD's will be awesome for fans and for non fans. DVD will be awesome just for us fans.

To reiterate, the quality is good, not perfect but good. This is an amazing package and the DVD is one of the gems in the collection. We are talking WEMBLEY were he was at the top of the world. He is on fire!

On the other hand it is very disappointing to listen to some fans complain and whine about this. How do you live your lives with the half-empty, negative mentality? Have you watched it yet? How do you know all the non-fans will return it?

Be happy, this is a great release- it is a great time to be a Michael Jackson fan- so stop being such a downer please.

uhmm I'm pretty sure what Lounis is doing isn't legal. Didn't Sony closed down his forum and suing him or tried to sue him?

Yeah, what he did wasn't legal. And they tried to I guess or something happened but his forum is still up and I think they may of attempted to. What I don't know is has the estate tried to find it from archives or other sources and people? Obviously there was a film crew that worked on Wembley July 15th and 16th. And there was 35 MM footage and I'm sure there are at least beta tapes of this and copies made and other people may have it from working on it. Most people who work on projects like these get a copy of it, usually beta tapes too. I wonder if he has tried.....
We should ask.

Well a friend of mine who knows absolutely nothing about quality issues, VHS, any of our 'problems' for Bad 25 said APOM was great, and they enjoyed it very much. The quality wasn't mentioned, because it isn't an issue. Only when you start expecting an ultra HQ DVD, and analyse it frame by frame to catch any issue you start to get problems. The Estate have to be very careful with us, because they know what some are like, and I honestly wouldn't blame them if they never released anything again. All we do is whine, bitch and complain, why should they bother?

But outside fan community no one knows nothing about what quality to expect when they buy this DVD. They will be disappointed.

I see where you are getting at. I didn't think of this. People out side of the fan community, or who don't go on the internet or just regular MJ fans that don't know a thing about the DVD, they are most likely buying it expecting its DVD quality and oh great a new concert. They probably don't even know how rare the concert is and probably expecting the quality of APOM music video,or Dirty Diana MSG or Bad LA quality. Instead they are watching a VHS version of the concert that was enhanced by "professionals". This is a official release, when they are going to think it's a boot leg or something like that. Most boot legs are like that, Nice menu's nice cover art, etc. but bad quality video (at times, depends on the bootleg and who made it and all that good stuff). Regular MJ fans or some people that aren't fans but just watching a MJ concert. This isn't DVD quality, it's VHS quality but fixed up to be exceptional. Others may think it's exceptional but most people out side won't. Also many fans are annoyed because these "pro" guys who worked on this footage didn't do a real good job. They just tried to make it look nice, but they didn't go through frames or work on it with great effort. It's annoying. We waited so long and that's what they give us? Poor work on a DVD many people are going to pay for.

I know the whole story. And I don't believe that they have masters but choose not to release them. That is insane. If I were the Estate I would not release it. I would explain the situation to the fans (like they did) and release some other concert with better picture quality and ok sound quality (not unusable) or not release DVD at all. My opinion.

The quality is 6/10. I agree with that.

Don't consider this being negative. I am just putting something against this best quality ever seen of 24 years old VHS thing. (I simply love to argue and debate :D )

Queen Live in Budapest

They should bother because that is their job. And they are making money from us! Some fans like this DVD release, I don't like it. Some fans didn't like Don't Be Messin' Around, I enjoyed it. Some fans hate the idea of 3D release and blu-ray release of HIStory concert, I love it.

I wouldn't call myself negative or the one who likes to "whine, bitch and complain". I think I'm realist and I have my own opinion no matter what Estate do or say.

Well if you are a realist, then you would realize that this is a 25 year old VHS and that is all they have. No film reels. So the reality is that the estate restored this vhs as best they could and this is what we are getting, a very good quality VHS. That is reality and as the realist that your are you should realize this. :D

That's the WORST they could do!

I agree that not release a DVD at all was the worst thing to do. We would be furious in regards to Bad 25 only being 5-6 new demos.

they said that they had japan concerts / 1st leg in good quality but releasing that would also be a disaster as we all have seen Yokohoma a million times.

They didn't have the films. They couldn't wait to find or hope that those films are found one day.

They were left with two choices

Better video and worse audio

or

Better audio and worse video

It's that simple. The standalone dvd is priced at $11 . buy it you want, don't buy it if you don't like it.

And honestly this discussion is becoming more and more annoying and I'm hoping we won't spend the next week discussing the same thing.

It's not THAT bad.

I personally couldn't stop watching it in the last two days and it alway puts a smile on my face. Just what I have been waiting for: seeing Michael at his best! It would be a crime not to release this!

And honestly this discussion is becoming more and more annoying and I'm hoping we won't spend the next week discussing the same thing.

I just hope at least when the DVD comes out we all will start focusing on the actual content, ie. the performance and the show itself than the quality. We already get it that some people don't like the quality, we get that some people think they could have done a better job. Point taken. Let's move on!

What are you doing then? I don't like it, I've seen better and whatever else you've said in this thread panning the release. You do exactly that. It isn't that bad at all, and given the circumstances it's actually pretty good. Many people will buy it and enjoy it and if you won't, well it's you missing out and no one else.

In my case it is not money problem. It is quality problem. I'll probably end up buying every version of BAD25 that comes out like I do with all MJ releases.
Better video and worse audio or Yokohama in perfect quality would be much better than this in my opinion.

MOD NOTE:

I don't know when this became a world of one opinion all the time and any who think differently need to be separated, but it really needs to stop. There are so many who can't even enjoy a thread because they are constantly berated as negative, whiners, ungrateful, by individuals who have to go to extremes in dimishing their fellow members to nothing just to try to silence them. I - and many mods - have said it again and again, that if a member is really irking you, to put them on ignore. There is absolutely no need for the willful hate and ignorance some of you are spewing at your fellow members. The first thing you can try to do is be understanding of where the complaints are coming from. Is it complaining just to complain, or is it because they really care about Michael and how he is perceived? Or maybe they never got to see him live so they are trying to hold on to this live footage and want it is real as possible to experience a fill in a void. People are not even trying to understand one another.

How many times have people said they can't wait for Bad25 and repeat it over and over again. But that is ok to keep repeating but you agree with them right? I guess I just don't understand why people can't have an adult conversation and debate without being reduce to sophomoric tactics of attacking one another.

We can do better. We should do better.

Thread cleaned.

They didn't have the multi-track audio from other concerts. It's either a 6/10 video quality with 10/10 audio quality or 9/10 video quality and 2/10 audio. Let me tell you something - there is nothing worse than having a LIVE dvd with tinny, compressed, sub standard sound. You will never get the full energy of a live performance with a front of house mix and shit sound quality.

Not release the DVD at all? If it's not good enough for you then don't buy it. Why should the rest of us be denied the opportunity to have this?

And as has been said over and over again, the FANS wanted Wembley. The Estate listened.

I'm expressing my dissatisfaction about DVD quality. I don't think that that is "whining, bitching and complaining".

Better video and worse audio or Yokohama in perfect quality would be much better than this in my opinion.

and that's your opinion

for example if they had released Yokohoma in Bluray it would have been worthless to me. I wouldn't give it to a single cent and I would be furious as it has been available and I almost watched it to the point of memorizing it.

Similarly personally to me performance is much more important than quality - that's why I watched Yokohama in bad quality. I would rather prefer a better performance than better visuals. Everyone agrees that Wembley is Michael's best performance and he was on fire. So I want that. I want that audio. I want that real experience. I wouldn't prefer a better visual of a worse performance. Because I as a normal person when watching a concert DVD watch the performance, not the resolution, holo effects, color correction or etc.

I think it becomes that when your on almost every page complaining about it saying you've seen better. You won't buy it, I and many others will. It's simple.

The fans wanted Bad Tour second leg in good quality, not necessarily Wembley and definitely not in this quality.

It would not be 9/10 video quality and 2/10 audio, I would probably be 9/10 video quality and 6/10 audio. That is in my opinion better than 6/10 video quality and 10/10 audio.

IT IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME, IT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR MICHAEL JACKSON!

Do you think the Michael album or Vision or even Cirque is good enough for Michael? Nothing this estate does will ever be Michael's standard because he can't put his ideas to it. Oh, and we did want Wembley. A 7 year petition sort of proves that.

This is much much better, million times better than Michael, Vision & Immortal combined, but still not good enough for Michael Jackson. He would never release something in that quality. That is a fact.

Of course it is! We all know this, and we've accepted it. We just have to take what we get, because he isn't here anymore.
