I don't see the album being released 2 weeks max after the phone.. They would have to race piracy for that.. I'm gonna go off on a lim and give an educated guess that one of these will be the U.S. release date for the album

This is if the phone indeed is released in April...

I agree but I think even two weeks would make a hard race against piracy. 2-5 days is still ok but no longer than a week. I don't have problem with this little delay that may happen. Keep in mind sometimes fans who pre-order albums get them a few days before anyone else.

That story has already been proven Bogus by a statement posted in this thread from the estate . They are not going to hold an MJ album for ransom by requiring you buy a $500 phone to get it . That would be suicide and very bad for relations and for album sales. So you can be pleased to know that you can buy the album the usual way when it is released.

They will officially Happily announce any album and not anyone else .. (such as sky news)

Somebody said those words, I commented on them, that's all.

I find it very probable that the album will be first made available for phone buyers. It's also clear that several days later at most it will be available through conventional channels. I just find that exact quote extremely arrogant and tasteless.

I can see them releasing some singles on the phone for "free" but I cant see releasing the whole album for purchase on the phone only when it is released and make fans wait for a proper album. They know that wouldn't go over well in the fan base. Their statement seems to imply different . just my understanding though

I think all the buzz and press (only positive) as well, is fantastic plus I think it's the estate doing a little Michael. It's called making us wait! Some of you might not be used to that if you are a young fan but to us oldies it's part of the experience of releasing new material.

Timbaland is not the only producer. There will be other producers.

exactly, & L.A reid seems to be overlooking this project.. i'm sure he won't let out a low quality album.. i hope Theron Feemster & Darkchild have produced some tracks also and there's some of those discovered gems from the Michael Prince hard drive's included

I see where you're coming from. Judging by the snippet I also think it's too generic and not punchy enough and I dont get this certain michael feeling (yet). But im still confident we will get awesome original versions and worthy updates. Maybe for the "pop" songs a more european producer would be better like RedOne Max Martin... For me every version we know has their advantages. Take the best from all of them and we have an almost pefect mix.

I love Timbo. Even if Slave to the Rhythm isn't his best work, I have no doubt that the other songs he's doing are going to sound great.

Oh I know that. But still, that shouldn't mean there's songs on there that do not sound like Michael Jackson songs. This is clearly signature Timbaland, and it isn't a MJ sound at all.

Biggest problem with Slave is there's nothing to it. It doesn't hurt like it should, it sounds flat and to me, it isn't aggressive enough. Maybe the other tracks will be great but this one isn't, which is such a shame as it's probably one of the best unreleased songs out there.

We can't really call Slave to the Rhythm anything -- mainly because, in a way, we haven't heard it yet.

To be more specific, the original demo version of Slave remains unheard by anyone outside of the inner Estate circle. The version that leaked was a God awful remix that is stuck in the synthpop days of 2010. The Timbaland version may not even be the final mix. Remixes of popular songs are used in commercials all the time.

Don't feel down yet. There's still time for this to be a great album. And hey, even if you end up HATING the final version, there is a good chance we'll hear the demo.

I heard the new snippet of STTR and I think it is great, I didn't like the previous one because it seemed very unpolished and raw, this is one is finished. It is so typical, though of MJ fans, unfortunately to be so negative. I am soooo tired of it. I am going to buy the new album (multiple copies) and ENJOY IT!!!!

If I remember correctly, most people weren't that critical about reworking/"finishing" MJs songs prior to the Michael album 3,5 years ago. Don't forget: If MJ was alive and about to release an album right now, it would not sound like Dangerous or Invincinble. His sound evolved with every album. Invincible was released 13 years ago. Who knows what his music would sound like today?

As many people said before, please don't forget that Timbaland's version of STTR resembles MJs original version much more than Tricky's version that we've gotten used to over the last 3 years.

Maybe Damien Shields shouldn't have posted his article about the new album with the supposed demo-disc. Now we have many people expecting it and threatening to not buy the album if there are no demos.
I can understand everyone who prefers MJs original version (like myself). But I think it's great to "finish" the songs if it's done properly. And judging from the 1min STTR snippet, Timbaland finished it way more properly than Tricky did.

Please just wait for the single/whole album until you condemn the new version, guys. We should be very happy that we will get a new album within the next 2 months (most likely). And considering every piece of info we know about it, it will be way better than Michael!


Btw: The smartphone-trailer has over 4million views Keep it up! Hope there will be TV commercials soon.

Nobody knows that. But Tricky himself said that his version is nothing like the original, that he destroyed the original production. And that amateur version is soooooooooooo bad. Maybe because of his shitty techno version I never liked the song. And although Timbaland version sounds much better I don't know if I will ever enjoy it. Tricky ruined it for me. Bieber even more.

Tricky himself said that he made the song his own by destroying the original production on it, whereas Timbaland said he was keeping the essence of a Michael Jackson song, which I personally think he does. He uses his own beat samples but the strings ARE Michael. Just need a bit of bass and a different synth arrangement.

Is any of that factual information? Because to me it sounds opinion based as this sounds nothing like a Michael Jackson song. The strings don't even sound like something he would've done.

Question is: Would You have said that the invincible album sound like a Michael Jackson album, after such classics as Thriller, Bad, Dangerous?
Nobody knows how Michael would have sounded in 2014.
My guess is that he would keep his style from previous albums, which was: being straight forward, cutting edge, 10 years in the future, setting trends and so on!
So.. maybe you don't like what Timbaland is doing. But for sure he is providing at least some of the qualities Michael stood for. And the other producers will also do their best to fulfill this goals.

If you expect another Billie Jean, The Way You Make Me Feel or Black Or White: Prepare to get dissapointed, because even MJ did not sound like that anymore, and that was in 2001 on the Invincible record, not even on HIStory & for sure on Blood he sounded not like on his older classics.
How many people & not just some of the fans still to this day discredit Invincible. But if you listen to some Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars or the like, that's how MJ sounded in 2001, more than 10 years before (to a degree of course).

My point once again: Nobody knows how MJ would have sounded in 2014. And if you are on critical side regarding Invincible, my guess would be that you would have more room for criticism on a new record, either finished by MJ or a current producer.
