Xscape General Discussion

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I think he also did it because the radios would have played the duets anyway as first singles due to people's curiosity and requests. So, if there is a duet on this new album, then maybe it would be better to play it first to so to say anticipate people's curiosity and requests. However, I must admit that I am impatient and that personally I'd prefer that they start right away with a bomb hit.

And Michael himself always had his first singles as upbeat songs since the 90's. Dangerous had Black Or White, HIStory had Scream, Blood On The Dance Floor had Blood On The Dance Floor and Invincible had You Rock My World

Maybe the mysterious track's title of the song is "Mysterious Track" and the lyrics are about bicycle lanes among which there is a mysterious one.

Bad & Thriller with IJCSLY and TGIM!

Bad & Thriller with IJCSLY and TGIM!

But releasing a ballad as the 1st single just won't work now a days IMO. People have short attention spans and we need something that will grab their attention.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Well dynwyca would be like IN YOUR FACE for haters. Anyway I think this strategy weak song first doesnt work anymore. People will just lose interest that way and this will result in far less single releases imo.

Yes, this is the Internet age and people have shorter attention spans. If an album is not a hit in its first week it will never be. It's very different now than in the 80s.

People have always had short attention spans. There's a reason why 'The Girl is Mine' flopped all the way back in the early 80's.

As for starting with an upbeat track, its not that simple. Michael may have started out with "Scream" for HIStory, but the number 1 didn't come until "You Are Not Alone".

They key, imo, is anticipation and assessing the competition scene. As long as no other pop star is releasing an anticipated debut, there's not much to worry about when it comes to whether the song is 'fast' or 'slow' lol. Many artists debut with ballads to huge success.

Oh, and I LOVE "Love Never Felt So Good". It'll sound so simple and charming next to the complex uptempos on the release.

I agree. Nice first week numbers will cause people to take a look at what the hype is all about. The market is cluttered nowadays. You gotta stand out.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Do You Know Where Your Children is a song that could easily stand out, but the problem is would it stand out for the wrong reasons? We all know what Michael's intentions were with that song but a lot of the general public don't know or won't care to look into it. Also the media won't be shy about trying to twist it into something sinister

I'm on the fence about that song being a single. Part of me is thinking to play it safe and to avoid any dumb ''jokes'' made by people. Then another part of me (no pun intended) is thinking lets give the middle finger to the haters and release it anyway

Agree completely.

Release "Do you Know" first. The days of worrying about what certain people think is over. MJs whole life has been exposed. It's about the music now. Release the dam song now!

Is there a song called "Dam"?

If that's the case then I hope they put this as the cpver of the maxi single:

I also think they should release the song do you know where your children are. yes there very well may be jokes regarding the title of the song, but we dont want to let those certain people win. we have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, or to hide. do you know where your children are is a great song with a great message. who cares what the haters think. this is all about michael and his beautiful music.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

To avoid controversy they should release STTR or Xscape. I agree DYKWYCA is an outstanding song but us the fans are sensible and sensitive enough to understand the lyrics. The media or haters aren't.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I say release Xscape or STTR first. STTR would make sense with that phone promotion thingy they have going with it, and Xscape could work too since people would be able to identify it with the album of the same name. With you-know-who's case still sitting there, releasing DYKWYCA as a single now would be seen as in bad taste and/or "taunting that poor victim", as I'm sure the media would say. It wouldn't be taken seriously, and if the first single isn't taken seriously, then everything after it will likely tank.

Do you know where your children are? Because it's not twelve'o clock.
If they're somewhere out on the streets, just imagine how scared they are!

Not much to "understand" or interpret, it's straightforward.

Practicing for when he met the real thing!!

??? 4 >< 2 ??? ---> 4 = 2y ---> y = 2 --> RESULT: 4 = 2 x 2

will he meet twins?

Some reviews on the album when the writers talked about that song, committed the idiocy to link it with the false allegations in 1993. When Michael wrote it, he hadn't even met those lowlife scumbags. Imagine if it were the first single, the tabloids and haters in the media would have a feast.

Yeah i know. They're doing what they've always done. They did the same with lost children back in the day which is just laughable and desperate.

True, but the general public does not typically study music; they just buy it if they like it. Additionally, there are no mainstream pop songs nowadays that tackle real world issues. All that we get are self empowerment anthems which are way overdone. They won't interpret it as "Michael is being a genius!" but rather "This is a creepy narrative." It's just how it is whether or not we like it.

Also, don't use the hardcore fan base as a catalyst for any arguments in terms of what songs should be released. We are a very very small percentage of total fans; what we might think should be released may not be the total consensus.

These are the haters and the media we're talking about. They don't care if it's straightforward. If they see an opportunity to drop even the slightest suggestion that Michael is a pedophile, they'll jump on it and do anything to make it not straightforward. It's sad too because people tend to believe them more than the fans. I can already hear them commenting in my head: "They won't be as scared as they will be when they run into him! LOLOLOLOLOL" Shit like that, you know?

what? they did this with the lost children too? you have to be kidding me, unbelievable. that is beyond deperate. that song is pure magic.

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

Feeling like I am probably the only person here that likes LNFSG :-( Can't wait to hear the updated version even though I love the original!

Maybe not lyrically great (Anka is a bit middle of the road), I just feel Michaels vocal performance is really quite strong! Xx
You are not alone with this!.. great wedding type song that could be big if they decide to drop it as a single.. It could have a positive affect and cater to the casual fans that's stuck on "Thriller" and "Off the Wall"

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

People do realise that MJ and Paul Anka collaborated in the writing of LNFSG right? I see a lot of "I hate that song. Anka is crap" type of posts in this thread. Anka didn't write the song and hand it to MJ to sing. They wrote it together. I wouldn't be surprised if Anka just played the the piano and MJ just did his thing over the top. The lyrics weren't even finished when MJ recorded his demo.

Wait...

People do realise MJ was a songwriter right?

No he wasn't. We all know that Rod Temperton, Quincy Jones, Teddy Riley, Brad Buxer and Rodney Jerkins wrote all the songs. Come on, Michael as a songwriter? Ridiculous.

;)

Re: News and discussion about new MJ album : Xscape, May 13, 2014.

I personally hope the "mysterious" track is either a Dangerous era track, or Invincible / post Invincible. MJ's best work is from those eras.

As far as Do You Know Where Your Children Are, the estate/Sony need to have the info of each and every track in the liner notes. When it was originally written and recorded...and where, and when it was remastered for this collection and by whom. I think having the FACTS listed about the song will debunk anything the media tries to create about the song.

Buttheads on Fox News & Friends or Nancy Disgrace trashing the song can talk crap all they want. But when the FACTS are given, it'll knock them on their ass and make them look like fools.

I say release the song, and make a video for it too. **** the haters....especially You Wade..you backstabbing prick.

:p

It isn't; Joe Vogel confirmed it was a mid tempo love song from the 1980s that hasn't been heard. Several people have guessed it was Throwing Your Life Away from 1988, which is always a possibility.

Dozens. Peter Pan (1983), Buffalo Bill (1984), What You Do to Me (1985), etc. It could also be an unknown.
