That's great news! Well, for people who are MJ fans and/or just like Captain EO that is. From what I've seen on various Disney forums some people don't care for it. <_< Poo on them, I say.

I was at Disney World the week of July 13th and EO was still there and putting butts in the seats. Not completely full, mind you, but still a good sized crowd. To my surprise, my parents LOVED it! It was funny cause my dad was like "So this was made before he was weird, huh?", and I was just like <_<. Yet afterwards he was going on about how great it was. XD So that made the trip pretty cool.

While at the park, I saw something rather interesting. There's a comic book series that just started this year based on Figment, the dragon from the Journey Into Imagination ride that's located next to EO at Disney World. I can't help but wonder... could they possibly do that with Captain EO as well? The only roadblock I see is that they'd have to get permission to use Michael's likeness first, but it would be really cool if they got such a thing going! :D

I live here, so I can go whenever, but it WILL be going away in the very near future people!
I LOOOOVE it, but as a Disney park fan, I'm more interested in them revamping that area of the park (which is in desperate need of something new).

And yes, it doesn't attract a huge crowd, but Epcot doesn't really advertise it very well. They don't even have Michaels name attached to it anywhere. So if you're looking at the guidemap or something, most people would be like "whats captain eo?". Doesn't help that it's also in a corner of the park with not much else going on either.
Obviously, you see the (small) poster with him on it outside the theater, but it's just kind of there at the moment.

Then bring on the damn 3D blu ray already!

I went to see this back in November in Orlando. It had been exactly 21 years since I was first (and last) at it at the same location. Big moment for me. Brought back a lot of great memories of 1993. I loved it so much that I went back later in the day, as my mates all disappeared into the world showcase, and rode it one last time.

I noted some of the effects not firing quite as they should on the repeat viewing so it depends what seat you end up in I think. On the 2nd viewing I didn't get any movement from my seat nor any of the whipping effects etc. on my legs. Although I went to Epcot on a very quiet day, both viewings were packed out. There's nothing quite like seeing Michael on a huge screen, in 3D, backed by a booming sound system. Amazing experience.

Chris can get it. Nice pics!

And lolz, I'm spoiled. I live in Orlando area, so I can see it anytime.
So all you people expecting EO to stick around forever, you may want to check out the show sooner than later somewhere. Isn't it still open in Paris, too?

Nah, I went in January and it was closed. Completely off the map and impossible to find, so it was even more unfortunate. Would have KILLED to see it!

Are you sure? They still list the attraction on their website.
Is it possible it was just for that day or a short period of time there?

Did you bother asking any cast members there about it?

70mm print was being sold off on eBay, maybe this is what was acquired? there does need to be a Blu-Ray with bonus features in the future though

I'm sure in this thread it was announced on Disneyland Paris' twitter that it was the 'last weekend' for Captain Eo. That was some time last year. Didn't Tokyo clear it out too? Florida and California only now?

The site said "Closed for Maintenance" for the whole week I was there and the weeks leading up to it. Maybe it came back?

Disney would be a great home for Thriller 3D or 4D as MJ would call it.

I also live in Orlando and I really need to get back to Disney just to see Captain Eo again, with my kids. I remember seeing it when it first came out in 1986. Good times.:D

Glad to hear it'll be back eventually, although many Disney park goers probably aren't going to be happy. From what I've seen on Disney park forums the attraction is not very well-liked, either because it's old or simply because Michael is in it.

Note to anyone on here: for your own sanity, never look up posts about this on a Disney forum. You're not gonna like what you see. :(

It's a lovely attraction. I love it. But really, it's a theme park, not a museum.
It will go away sooner than later.

It IS old and very dated. AND not every disney fanatic hates the attraction or MJ. But most just feel it could be used for something newer and better (like myself).

To be fair a LOT of the attractions at Walt Disney World are very dated. Captain EO isn't the worst offender.

When you look at Universal Orlando and WDW next to each other it's like night and day. But WDW harks back to simpler times, charm and nostalgia are waiting around every corner.

It is true that theme parks do change, and it probably will benefit Disney in the long run to put something new there. And I didn't mean to sound like I was stereotyping Disney fanatics; I just see MJ hate on Disney forums and it hurts to read. :(

Chris, oh god yes. There's tons of dated attractions there (and some I wish still were), but most of those aren't a film.
I will keep going to see it whenever I go to Epcot, but I think Disney is very gracious for letting it play this long.

Amaya, yes, it is true some disney fanatics aren't big fans, but they also hate a lot of other stuff Disney stuff, so they aren't biased. Trust me.

Great memories of Michael from the dance cast in "Captain EO." More specific discussion of MJ starts after the 10 min. mark.

EO 2.0: A Classic Revamped

Executive producer George Lucas and director Francis Ford Coppola changed the world when they released Captain EO in 1986. A revolutionary filming process using twin 70mm polarizing projectors and “4D” in-theater effects made it the most expensive film per minute ever produced at the time, costing an estimated $30 million and clocking in at 17 minutes.

Screening in the same Tomorrowland theater in which it debuted, Captain EO now welcomes a new generation of Guests on a journey to the stars.

'Captain EO' back on Epcot schedule

"Captain EO," the short sci-fi film starring Michael Jackson, is back on the schedule at Disney World. The company website puts it on the roster beginning Sunday, July 19.

The feature left Epcot in April to make room for a preview of the Disney film "Tomorrowland," starring George Clooney. Later, that Future World space was home to "Inside Out," an animated feature that debuted last Friday. It made $90 million in its first weekend in theaters.

The original run of "EO," which was directed by Francis Coppola, began in 1986 and ended in 1997. It returned to Epcot in 2010 in the wake of Jackson's death in 2009.

"Captain EO" also was seen at Disney parks in Japan, France and Anaheim, Calif.

I loved that 3d film.. He also looked good on the poster and in the film.

Nice release and promo for the movie there. Good to know is back to changing the world :D

Michael seemed to be quite the sci-fi movie fan, right? Captain EO actually reminds of me of Captain Picard in the Star Trek series :p Loved those, as well as Stargate SG-1. Wow, talk about a trip back in time......

When you think about it, Captain EO is rude as hell.
So he goes to planets and transforms the locals into his flamboyant backup dancers? Years of hard technological work all erased in favor of sunshine and nature?
Who does he think he is?? :D
