New Album Coming Soon? Orianthi Currently Working on Posthumous Project

Thriller 25 should have included ''The Making Of Thriller'' on DVD. Such a missed opportunity
I'm shocked that it didn't or that it's not on DVD yet-is Landis the reason for that?
I guess since he's working on a 3D version, that's what we will get now.

The Sony contract is ending soon. How much projects are left to release?

^^ Possible!

I always forget that Michael was announced in early November and they were working on it up to early October.

Probably the best decision to get those two projects out of the way - late this year and any time next year.

Am I the only one that's noticed that the estate is following the Michael formula, i.e., releasing most albums/projects in the latter half of the year with the exception of one?

History is Michael's exception, released in June. Xscape is the Estate's, released in May. Everything else dropped from August onwards.

Just an observation I just came up with.

^^I didn't notice that as I'm useless with dates. But I always feel the Christmas market is the best one to hit as people who are on the fence may buy it as their out and about Christmas shopping and also as gifts for family and friends. I like the idea of a new album around the holiday season.

I wonder what the estates plan is for after the contract.. we know 2 projects between now and than... I wonder if they'll shop outside of Sony at that point or negotiate a new one...

If I were in the Estate shoes, I would GUESS that they would save a more robust project idea for outside the 2 projects to use as a financial strategy.. If they give the best now than they wont have much to leverage for a great contract afterwards.. IF they go to Sony (or whoever) with a great project plan/idea after the contract is over that company (Sony or other) would be more enabled to offer up a larger contract..

My guess would be they wouldn't aim for another long term contract and rush to get something out on a yearly/bi-yearly basis. Setting up individual contracts on a per project basis and working from there seems to be the best route.

I can't imagine them straying from Sony. Every single adult-centric Michael Jackson release has come from them!

Overall I don't foresee a difference if they switched labels anyway. His posthumous behemoth sales are well behind him (which is expected and happens with every entertainer who passes away), so I doubt any company would pour their souls into promoting a Michael Jackson project in the same way that they might for a living artist.

As much as I would hate this, the Estate should take 3-5 years off after 2017, re-evaluate themselves, then come back strong.

Fingers crossed for a new album. This time, I hope we finally get the RedOne Tracks, and the WillIam songs, stuff from 2004 onwards and also a few from the Invincible sessions. Many of the ones that were considered for Xscape are probably early 90ies or older imo.
If I had to choose an outside producer to "update"/finish some songs, it would be Ryan Tedder (from OneRepublic)

As much as Christmas is a big opportunity where sales are concerned, it is also a busy time regards releases - the market gets swamped with new releases all vying for the public's money.

SOME releases get drowned out.

If they're going for that period they better have a big huge hit single and some serious promotion planned, otherwise like the repugnant 'Michael', it'll be in the bargain bins before you know it.

It needs to have, and be led with, a KILLER single. Maybe We've Had Enough or ideally something new.

Albums only get one chance o make it nowadays and can't be slow burners. It has to land hot.

^ I'll say that I think the Xscape had music good enough to sell really well... I think on top of a killer single to kick it off is good PR.. I don't mean money pumping projects around the album... But something to get people talking about THIS album.. Why is THIS one more special than the previous (post 2009) releases..

now days it's not about what pretty packaging you can put something in, it's not even singularly about the quality of the music.. There is plenty great stuff that gets shelved while mediocre music gets repeated on the radio... There's simply SOMETHING that creates interest that makes the radio stations play those songs..

ie. why Beyoncé drops surprise albums (that drummed up major talk or her)... ie. the controversy of her last album being about Jay cheating.. people talk!

Not saying to surprise drop an MJ album, that would not work for him, but to have something that people can attach to the album to make it talk worthy would push the albums sales...

Honestly We've Had Enough would be a great lead single. Especially in this day and age of terrorism, WHE would be a pretty relevant song and I suspect it would be at least a top 20 hit in most countries if produced and promoted well.

We've Had Enough isn't single material in my opinion.

It's certainly relevant to the social and political matters that the world has been suffering through, but if you take a quick glance at the charts, meaningful music isn't always what manages to climb to the high peaks.

It needs to be something upbeat, rhythmic, and catchy.

If You Don't Love Me.

I played If You Don't Love Me to my Mum a few weeks ago and she loved it! She said it was really catchy and demanded I put it on her iPhone :)

Yeah, my wife's not the biggest MJ fan (not sure why I married the cow) but IYDLM is one of the few solo MJ songs she has on her iPod.

I'm more one to want an unheard song... I think there are some good leading singles with already released tracks but we shall see what is in the vault...

I hope for all unheard songs. Xscape had in my opinion too many leaked tracks. I know I didn't have to listen to them when they leaked but I did. I would just like to be surprised with new songs. After all it is the fans who buy the music. Xscape was great but really didn't last long. I think it's because we already heard them so much. This all of course depends on if we are getting a new album.

Just curious, would you guys be for releasing If You Don't Love as is or would it be remastered or embellished in any way? I just wonder if it would have a big impact as is? I do like Tony R's comparison of If You Don't Love Me to Elvis' Return To Sender, one of Elvis' absolute finest songs.

^ I don't mind any already leaked tracks to be re worked (if done well) since we already heard the song and would be something new (kind of) for us.. IYDLM is a good song but there is something missing for me for a proper release.. my opinion of course! gets repetitive a bit. With proper reworkings it could do the trick though

Agree. I like it, it's a great track but not sure if I see it setting the world alight without being reworked and embellished. I'm not saying completey re-do it and contemperize it (perhaps I am to a certain extent), but a few subtle tweaks with the music to add that something it's just lacking.

If they do contemporise I hpe they stay true to the fact that it's a pop song based around a guitar riff. Same as 'Black or White'. As much as I like the contemporised 'Place With No Name', I wouldn't like to see the same happen to IYDLM.

That's why I think LNFSG was picked up so well, it was the first proper pop MJ song for a long time.

Agree. I see If You Don't Love Me as almost a companion piece to Black Or White, but feel it just needs that extra bit of production to get it there. If they could get even halfway close to Black Or White it could be massive.

If You Don't Love Me could do with a little polish on the instrumental.

The song is absolutely outstanding but some of the production sounds very digital and could do with a live replacement. Call in John Robinson and put down a live drum track, see if they can get Paulinho da Costa in to lay down some percussion, call up Nathan East for a funk bass line, and you've got one hell of a song there.

Needs about 30 seconds shaving off though.
