"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

Pretty much everybody agrees that we don't want to see John Branca as the narrator, and personally I would prefer if there was no narrator at all. However, if they do decide to add a narrator, I feel like the only character who could bring something insightful to the story would be Joe Jackson.

First of all, his controversial character is more interesting than Branca's serious lawyer tone could ever be. But mostly, no relationship Michael ever had had more impact on him than his failed relationship with his father. It was Joe and his dream that started it all and set Michael on the path to become a superstar. Unlike Branca, Joe was there from the beginning until the end. Unlike Branca, Michael could never completely cut him out of his life, because he was his father and Joe refused to let Michael push him out of his life, even breaking into his house when Michael refused to see him. Even when he was not present to witness certain events, you could see him always keeping up with what was going on in Michael's life, even from a distance, and always wanting to be involved.

Having Joe as the narrator would also be an interesting way to show the contrast between how Joe acted in private vs in public, how he mistreated Michael, destroyed his self-esteem and never showed him love in private, whereas in public he always defended him and spoke of him with love and pride.

I mean, this is what Joe was telling Michael in private, and it could be shown in a scene:
“God, your nose is big. You didn't get it from me! Your nose is so big and it’s so ugly. Look at it. Oh, it’s disgusting, I can’t look at you. Turn away from me.”

And this is what Joe was saying in interviews, and they could have Joe say it as the narrator:
“That boy's so sensitive about his nose. Do you see anything wrong with his nose? Me neither. Threatened to have it fixed. What can he do with it? I told him I'd break his face if he ever had it fixed. He's got a great nose. It looks like mine.”

Even when Michael tried to keep Joe away, he was still ever present on his mind, influencing how he felt and the things he did. When Michael told this to Karen Faye after the bridge accident: “The only thing that I heard in my head, was my father's voice saying to me, MICHAEL, DON'T DISAPPOINT THE AUDIENCE!”
Or when people wonder why he didn't just cancel the This Is It shows instead of pushing himself beyond what his body could endure, the first thing that comes to my mind is this story Joe told:

“After the ambulance got to the show and worked on me, I was barely able to get up. I remember Michael and the boys looking at me with their youthful eyes, full of confusion as if asking “What do we do now?”. I looked straight at them and without any hesitation said “You go on stage and do the show, like nothing has happened. The show must always go on!” Michael internalized that lesson and over the years, even in pain, stress, sadness, he would never let the public see it. He was a professional till the end. In my eyes “The Greatest Entertainer that ever lived”.

As a narrator, Joe can explain so much of the stuff that happened in Michael's life. He's the one who taught Michael he had to go on stage no matter the pain and sadness.

Brilliant

How would the Bashir interview never happening have effected Michael? It spawned the second wave of accusations, so without them there's no trial but the 1993 allegation still existed. Could he have mentally gotten back to how he was, or was the damage already done?

Yeah, when I saw MJ the Musical, they didn't sugarcoat it... So I know for a fact that they will not sugarcoat the biopic...

Deep down, I think we all wanted Michael Jackson to be this perfect angel who could do no wrong. The reality is that yes, he IS a genius, yes, he's STILL the King of Pop no matter what the media says, but was he perfect? No. No one is, and if it was, I haven't met one person yet... I still believe his innocence, there's no question about it, but I do believe he should've been extremely careful when it comes to being surrounded by children, especially other people's children. Not all children are pure and innocent... Here in America, we are so obsessed with four things: Money, sex, drugs and power. Also with the television shows, movies we are seeing, especially the internet, things are more complicated as it is. I used to work as a after school counselor around 2004-2005 (it was around the Michael was fighting for his life). Would I take the position today? No, because there's WAY too much going on with children these days, ESPECIALLY the parents! After the settlement from the first allegations, it unfortunately opened the door to more accusations, lawsuits, and that trial! Even Michael himself said that he would not put himself into such a vulnerable position again.
This biopic will address the allegations, but it will be the truth that Michael is indeed innocent. The media will keep that narrative that Michael was a pervert, so don't expect any changes from them. They showed their true colors from the very beginning...

I'm looking forward for this biopic. I just hope that Jaffar will be emotionally ready for what's to come when it's time for the movie to be released.

We can hope for more of the true villains in the media being exposed.
And it's coming out for sure! Maybe not as quick as we anticipated, but what's done in the dark shall come to the light... Look at Oprah. She's a snake, and Mo'Nique (she's an Academy Award actress/comedian for those who are not familiar) called her out for years, and Oprah's true colors are beginning to get exposed... Toni Braxton (singer/actress) said the same thing... Even Michael sensed something was up with her when they did that interview live...

Just recently with this Jeffrey Epstein affair came out with that list, even though Michael's name was mentioned, but he wasn't on the list, and of course the media attempted to twist it... Also, when that mockumentary came out, I can't remember who owned that yacht, but David Geffen, Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, I forgot who else was there, held a party, showing that trash, who does that?! When that #MeToo Movement came around, those two liars, along with that undercover child molester (allegedly) tried to cash in on it, and it flopped, big time! They thought it would explode like the cases of R. Kelly, Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein and a few others, but nothing really huge happened. It may have done some damage a bit, but at the end of the day, Michael Jackson wasn't cancelled. Sure, they are trying again now, but this time, we're on to their game they're trying to play...

Back to the biopic, when it comes to the soundtrack, I know they will use Michael's voice when it comes to performing, but I think for the scenes which they are speaking, maybe we'll hear Jaffar's singing voice here and there, he's got a good voice. I know it will not cover every aspect of Michael's life in one film, but I'm looking forward to it. I rarely go to the theaters myself, last time I went was a few months ago when I saw the Beyoncé documentary about her latest tour (it was three hours long!, but it was good!)

It will be interesting to see what impact the film's portrayal of Motown will have on the legacy of the record company. I mean they made children work harder than adults at the time.

Nobody is obligated to talk about MJ forever.
What happened to Paris and Omer bhatti (Omer was deleting his mike tattoos and Paris 2) after LN Omer never again posted something about mj and when Lisa died he was posting a pic where mj was cutting out. Paris is also very silent about Mike WTH is wrong?
And this is entirely irrelevant to the biopic in every way. @Hiker Please purge?

Huh? If this is for 'Michael', the film already has a name. 🤔

It's just speculation that it's for the MJ movie so perhaps they don't want to get egg on their faces if it wasn't? (Even though we know it is)

The film company will be wanting to keep things under wraps during filming so won't be openly sharing that they are filming the new Michael Jackson blockbuster to avoid prying eyes.

According to the Michael movie thread on reddit the working name for the film is called Maven.

"set to be named" doesnt mean the film doesnt have a name, it means theyre yet to identify the film it's being made for. I cant believe how that line has been so misunderstood lol. A bit embarrassing guys.

LOL it wont be called Maven. What the hell...

Working title I said during filming to keep it under wraps. We all know it's called Michael.

Not embarrassing at all. I understood perfectly what was being said. I was just surprised that they didn't just name the film outright. But then, film is not my thing at all and I would never normally be following the development of a film.

I understand that and I think that's how they used to do it, back in the day. But with the film all over social media I think I just assumed that those days were gone and they would just be upfront about it. I mean, when filming schedules from FilmLA get leaked all over the shop it just seems a bit redundant to be coy about the name of the project when anyone with any interest will know exactly what it is.

Like I said, film is not my thing. Which is probably just as well, lol. :D

No, that Maven thing, afaik, seems to be a sort of code name for a casting exercise. At least I think that's what it was. I saw that yesterday or the day before but only glanced at it very briefly.

No one misunderstands here but you.

The wait is too long, i wish the estate would give us something. Footage, photos, anything. We don't even know how long the film will be.
There's no way to know that at this early stage. I assume they have a running time in mind but, until they do the editing, the final run time can't be settled. That would be my guess.
