Abba

ABBA was inspired by Bee Gees when they recorded theiir album Voulez Vous and they recorded at least part of it in the same studio as Bee Gees had used earlier.Another connection to Gibbs was they were on Olivia Newton-Johns show and Andy Gibbs were there too.
All of the artists in a gift of songs didn´t give away the royalties of their song after all but ABBA did, half of it.
Chiquitita became a big hit for them and many years later it was included in the musical Mamma Mia and I read until 2007 Unicef had got 2,5 million$ from it.

Now over to the environment
Annifrid was one of the ambassadors for the natural step in the 90s
I remember she scared the program leader when Frida showed her a vermicompost.

Frida sang this beautiful song written by Julian Lennon
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/tLZt9QavYDs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Deep breaths or even a flower
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/TivpzFkd9gY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I have posted Dancing Queen earlier and you can see the clothes Frida and Agnetha was wearing in their Wembleyconcerts 1979 in some other videos I posted..
Here you can see Madonna was inspired by ABBA
http://youtu.be/NQ01MGlEZ8U

http://youtu.be/EDwb9jOVRtU
From 0.33 you can hear the ABBAsound from Gimme Gimme

She did ask for permission to use it.

Was it just a dream, everything we did, everything we had?

ABBA wanted to do something for the fans when they did their concert tour 1977.I think it´s funny, they were 4 persons who knew each other
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/mAlNtXrQELw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
If you think the chorus sounds familiar, Björn and Benny used the melody in their musical chess

I can add Björn when Björn sang craziest woman I met about Agnetha, he was doing it with love.
They were still married and expected their second child.

This is the first song recorded where Frida, Björn, Benny and Agnetha sang together, before they became ABBA

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/JVQWo6g-dRQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

ABBA used to lip sync when they made performaces for tv etc
So what, it doesn´t make Agnetha and Frida less greater singer or Bennys and Björns songs less good.

Are you sure you wanna hear more
What if I ain't worth the while
Not the style you'd be lookin' for
If I'm sweet tonight
Things look different in the morning light
I'm jealous and I'm proud
If you hurt my feelings I'll cry out loud
I'm Carrie not-the-kind-of-girl-you'd-marry
That's me

Are you sure you wanna hear more
Would I be the one you seek
Mild and meek like the girl next door
Don't you realise
I may be an angel in disguise
It's lonely to be free
But I'm not a man's toy, I'll never be
I'm Carrie not-the-kind-of-girl-you'd-marry
That's me

I don't believe in fairy-tales
Sweet nothings in my ear
But I do believe in sympathy
That's me, you see

Are you sure you wanna hear more
Won't you have a drink with me
Just to see you're not really sore
I can't help my ways
I'm just not the girl to hide my face
I'm Carrie not-the-kind-of-girl-you'd-marry
That's me

There's a special love
Like an eagle flying with a dove
I'll find it in the end
If I keep on searchin', but until then
I'm Carrie not-the-kind-of-girl-you'd-marry
That's me

Sometimes when I'm mad
There's a part of me that seems to be a little sad
Sometimes when I scream
There's a voice in me that says, "You shouldn't be so mean"
Oh no, oh no
Part of me is acting while the other stands beside
Yes, I am to myself what Jekyll must have been to Hyde

We're like sun and rainy weather
Sometimes we're a hit together
Me and I
Gloomy moods and inspiration
We're a funny combination
Me and I
I don't think I'm different or in any way unique
Think about yourself for a minute
And you'll find the answer in it
Everyone's a freak

Sometimes I have toyed
With ideas that I got from good old Dr Freud
Nothing new of course
It may seem to you I try to break through open doors
Oh no, oh no
I just wanna say a lot of that applies to me
'Cause it's an explanation to my split identity

We're like sun and rainy weather
Sometimes we're a hit together
Me and I
Gloomy moods and inspiration
We're a funny combination
Me and I
I don't think I'm different or in any way unique
Think about yourself for a minute
And you'll find the answer in it
Everyone's a freak

Me and I

We're like sun and rainy weather
Sometimes we're a hit together
Me and I
Gloomy moods and inspiration
We're a funny combination
Me and I
I don't think I'm different or in any way unique
Think about yourself for a minute
And you'll find the answer in it
Everyone's a freak

We're like sun and rainy weather
Sometimes we're a hit together
Me and I
Gloomy moods and inspiration
We're a funny combination
Me and I

Part of me says I should do some household work but the other part says later..me and I

Still not official released. this version is fanmade

I read that Björn and Benny aren´t satisfied with lyrics and arrangement

When The Waves Roll Out To Sea

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/RZHYLqs6uEQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Frida said some years ago that she wasn´t into popmusic of today but in comparison to other newer female popstars she felt that she and Agnetha had been so innocent.
If I say newer popstars it´s stars that came after ABBA was active.

Judge for yourselves I suppose I have posted the songs earlier but here´s ABBA´s concert in Wembley 1979.
It´s live
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/_qr-fO3udqA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It says the whole concert but the old hymn in the beginning is missing and I believe they ended with as old friends do, but the later maybe was extra number.
By the way their designer said the colors of their clothes were inspired by the colours in a glacier.
He also said he could show a piece of cloth to Frida and she said yes or no at once before he even had designed a garment.
Agnetha was more unsure then.
She´s younger but it can also be how interested you are in clothes.

Another thing Björn mentions the year of a child

This was a surprise for me

THE ABBA MEMORIES SHOW is back on stage in Montreal! Praised by thousands of fans, this concert is the most exciting show that features ABBA hits with exceptional sound and lighting effects. THE ABBA MEMORIES SHOW offers a 2.5 hour performance that will please true ABBA fans. Eight artists with outstanding talent perform legendary songs including Dancing Queen, Chiquitita, Waterloo, SOS, Fernando, Voulez-Vous, I Have a Dream and of course, Mamma Mia and many more.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/zOBZN5W1XFE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Here is a medley with some songs where Björn and Benny wasn´t the songwriters.
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/YYirUbsqU_4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

ABBA didn´t do a christmasalbum but Agnetha did one with her daughter and Frida made some songs

Stars are singinging about a bigger star, the star over Bethlehem
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/FmYeZh3KthU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Both Agnetha and Frida made this song, I had a problem to chose which one to post until I found this with both of them.I wish the had sang it together bot I still think it´s beautiful
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Loa7ugsiBwg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It shines a star strangely gentle, to the east in the sky she stands.
She shone over the world man's turmoil and strife for nearly two thousand years.
When the day gets dark and when the snow falls white, then she progresses closer, then she comes here
and then you know, that soon it's Christmas

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/29cm7k100CU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Thou star above Betlehem
O, let your gentle light
Come shining in with hope and serenity
Into every home and house

In every poor dark heart
Send a mild ray
A ray of light of God's love
In sacred Christmas days

Listened to some ABBA songs today as some of them brought me back at my happy childhood ...ABBA was definitely part of that! :)

Hi Mist

Do you know if the Song " Under Attack" was ABBA's last song?

thanks in advance

I watched 4 documentaries of Abba during xmas holidays and enjoyed every minutes of them:)

Sky arts and BBC4 showed these
ABBA - When Four Became One
ABBA - Dancing Queen
Joy of Abba and documentary of Agnetha

Did you see or heard Agnetha and Gary Barlow (Take That) duet?

The document about Agnetha, they showed how Gary asked her to do duet with him and she did, then Gary asked her to do it live, she started getting nervous because she doesn't like to do live shows.
Obviously eventually she agreed to appear live:clapping:
She still has a stunning voice, a little lower that it used to be but nevertheless stunning.

I wonder if there is going to be reunion concert this year to mark 40th anniversary?

Hi Treasure, I´ve read that The day before you came was their last finished song but i don´t know if that´s correct.
This should be their last recording in january 1983 a short time before they split up,but without Frida

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/L9ovDlvndxg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Look at little Christian, Agnethas and Björn´s son, holding daddys legs at 0.47.
It says in the information that it was a demo for the musical Chess.
The song, with another lyrics was included in the musical just like some other songs Björn and Benny worked on which somehow didn´t fit with ABBA.
If ABBA hadn´t split up I think the song had been on another ABBA album.

Bubs,it was nice to see that Agnetha really did the duet on stage.
I think it was a video recent years with Agnetha and Björn and when people asked about a reunion of ABBA she didn´t say no but it had to be something very special, connected with a charity.
I´ve noticed the duet was for children in need.

You can see here where Agnetha and Björn visit the premiere of Mamma MIa in Copenhagen that Agnetha is holding Björns arm now and then, for example when they are on stage at 2.49

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/bl93_1-SbJQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Frida has said earlier that Björn is a gentleman and he knew Agnetha wasn´t comfortable on stage and
all the fuss around so I think he supported her.
Like all friends do.
I won´t let you go is a song from one of Agnethas soloalbums

Abba – Two For The Price Of One

He had what you might call a trivial occupation
He cleaned the platforms of the local railway station
With no romance in his life
Sometimes he wished he had a wife
He read the matrimonial advertising pages
The cries for help from different people, different ages
But they had nothing to say
At least not until the day
When something special he read
This is what it said:

If you dream of the girl for you
Then call us and get two for the price of one
We're the answer if you feel blue
So call us and get two for the price of one
If you dream of the girl for you
(if you are dreaming of someone who might be right for you)
Then call us and get two for the price of one
(why don't you call us and you'll get two for the price of one)
We're the answer if you feel blue
(we may be the answers to your problem, a chance with we two)
So call us and get two for the price of one
(why don't you call us and you'll get two for the price of one)

He called the number and a voice said, 'alice whiting'
The voice was husky and it sounded quite exciting
He was amazed at his luck
The purest streak of gold he'd struck
He said, 'i read your ad, it sounded rather thrilling
I think a meeting could be mutually fulfilling
Why don't we meet for a chat
The three of us in my flat
I can't forget what I read'
This is what it said:

If you dream of the girl for you
Then call us and get two for the price of one
We're the answer if you feel blue
So call us and get two for the price of one
If you dream of the girl for you
(if you are dreaming of someone who might be right for you)
Then call us and get two for the price of one
(why don't you call us and you'll get two for the price of one)
We're the answer if you feel blue
(we may be the answers to your problem, a chance with we two)
So call us and get two
(why don't you call us and you'll get two)
For the price of one...

She said, 'i'm sure we must be perfect for each other
And if you doubt it you'll be certain when you meet my mother'

Interesting interview with Björn Ulveus in 2013.

Hi Mist,
Thank you so much for your latest contributions!!

A friend of mine and me did an act of ABBA once ( we almost peed our pants of course, jee this was real fun!
we saw this movie and decided the act has to be like this:

I remember I was so surprised when I saw the movie because I didn´t know they were playing so much music from ABBA.I didn´t know they had been so big in Australia.
I think it was a good movie both sad and fun.

The king has lost his crown

Never again, a duet with Agnetha and Tomas Ledin.

ABBA fanclub had a fanmeeting 2006 and the group Ella Rouge performed Susy Hang Around

I suppose fans knows the song but otherwise it´s not that wellknown.
The reason for why that song was chosen can be that it was the only song where Benny sang the leadvocals.
The singer in Ella Rouge is Benny Anderssons youngest son.
I think he´s born 1982 and didn´t grow up with ABBA the same way his 20 year older brother did.

Ludwig Anderson , Ella Rouge in Jekyll N Hyde

Benny´s oldest son Peter Grönwall in the group one more time.
They wrote the song together

One more time in eurovision song contest, they came third

Peter and Nanne wrote the song together

People told that Benny and Frida fell in love at once when they met, but for Peter and Nanne( in the long dress) it took years before they found out they loved each other.
They have two sons together, the sons are songwriters too

It´s the singer and drummer.

They talked about they wrote songs then rejected it,wrote new rejected it and so on.
I suppose they learned a lesson from grandfather Benny who said only 5% of all the songs he and Björn wrote were good enough for release. You have to look for the diamonds

It´s now 40 years since ABBA won Eurovision songcontest with Waterloo.
I read there are going to be a big party tomorrow in London, ABBAs spokesperson Görel Hanser said maybe 1-2 of the members will be there.
First thought so they share a spokesperson and next is she still around with ABBA things.
I guess they still can´t make it without her, like they sing on this song for her 30 years birthday.

If you wonder is it Benny or Björn singing in some places it´s not.
Stickan Andersson, their manager sings on it too.

Some years later Stickan became 50 years
Hovas witness -Hova was the place where Stickan grew up

Benny and Frida were still a couple in the beginning of 1981.
There were disagreement between ABBA -I suppose most Björn and Benny -and Stickan, he thought the songs should be around 3 minutes and there was something about the tone too..
They sing we think you will be happy if we raise a semitone.
They also sing how Stickan travels to Honolulu and if he arrives by schedule his wife is in Amsterdam and the luggage in Rom.

ABBA in an interview 1977 where they talk about media and other thing.
They said they were a group but in the group there were 4 individual persons with different opinions

I think they sent the tv programme direct so they could talk free.
