Michael Jackson Scream - The Album

Re: New Album Coming September 29? Posters Located in Germany

A Halloween-themed remix or compilation album makes most sense.

I didn't like most of the remixes on Immortal, but as long as they promote it as a remix album and don't pretend it's 'the new MJ studio album', it's all good. I'd happily pay for the kinds of remixes Nick* and others make (or the Say Say Say remix that was released on McCartney's repackaged album last year), where they use the multis to create alternative mixes to create a fresh take on the original song. Of course demos/alternative mixes/outtakes (very unlikely) would be even greater and would give fans a nice incentive to buy it - more so than releasing the usual studio versions.

The trailer is interesting, there are elements of:

-Dirty Diana (the guitar)
-BOTDF (the vocals, including a more audible background vocal)
-Dangerous (the beat and briefly the start of the chorus)
-an unknown horn part
-Ghosts (the beat)
-Leave Me Alone? (sounds like the "just stop dogging me around" vocals are layered over the Ghosts beat at the end, but cut off in the middle of 'dogging').

Any others?

Re: New Album Coming September 29? Posters Located in Germany

^It would, at least, need to be something like that for me to purchase. I wouldn't buy the album versions of the likes of Dirty Diana and Blood again. I have them dozens of times already.

Re: New Album Coming September 29? Posters Located in Germany

-Dangerous (the beat and briefly the start of the chorus)
-an unknown horn part

These parts in bold I'm having trouble placing the most. IS that definitely Michael saying "Day" just a clipped off section of him saying Dangerous? Or is it from something else? I wondered initially if it was 'because she's sleeping with ME' from Dirty Diana, but no, it definitely sounds like more of a D sound.

Is the horn part anything to do with Heartbreak Hotel? *scratches head*

Re: New Album Coming September 29? Posters Located in Germany

I listened to it with earphones and in my opinion you can hear the full "dangerous", not only the "da-"

Oh the beat is more than clear. I'm just questioning if the Dayyyy part is a clipped form of Michael singing 'Dangerous' or if it's from somewhere else.

Re: New Album Coming September 29? Posters Located in Germany

Personally, whether remixed, classic, or unreleased, I think the animated film with an accompaning album is an awesome way to bring the genius of Michael to an age group that may not know much about his music. I realize hard core, long time fans may "snooze" at an album of songs they've already heard, but stepping outside the fan box, this could be an incredible way to get younger people interested in the undeniable King of Pop!!

While is might be "old hat" for long time fans, it might be electric for a new generation. To keep MJ's legacy going, I think things like this are somewhat necessary. Think back to the very first song or video you were exposed to from Michael Jackson, the feeling, what got you hooked, what made you jump out of your seat. That's it right there, ya know? That's how, IMO, many of the younger kids might view the upcoming film/album.
"Wow!!! Freaking awesome, I want more!! What else is there by Michael Jackson???"

I'm not saying the long time fans don't deserve some love, and hopefully that will come. I just want to believe that Michael would have loved this animated film, especially since it will appeal to younger people, and doing an album along with it just makes sense. Hopefully after seeing it, these kids will go out and buy it, or want it for a gift. Hopefully it introduces them to other MJ creations, a new fan is made.

Oh now I see what you mean. :)

And I agree with Tess66, it's a great way to introduce MJ to a younger generation. :)

Do the new generation buy albums? It's all streaming now with the kids, I think.

Re: New Album Coming September 29? Posters Located in Germany

I know what you mean, Chris. It sounds as if the "Day-" part of Dangerous is taken from somewhere else as it clearly sounds disjointed and it may have been "copy +pasted" to give that effect. At first I thought it may have been from Off The Wall i.e "Night and Da-ay" while also thinking that it is a bit of a stretch to include this a hallaween themed song just because of the spooky laughter at the beginning. Not to mention that the vocals at that time were a bit richer than what is in the trailer. So it would have been from a later song.
And then it hit me - Stranger in Moscow! I searched on youtube for an acapella type video and to me the "We're talking DAYnger!" sounds very similar if not the same and would definitely fit in with a dark, lonely or spooky theme.

Either or, if it creates new fans, exposes more people, new people, etc., it still accomplishes reaching out to those not really familiar with his work.

Lol, I'm old, I still think of buying music in a tangible way! "Back in my day (sounding like an ancient)", if you liked a song from an artist, you bought the album/CD. No streaming, no downloading. I'm still like that.

I can see how the TV special might perform the function you're talking about, but kids who like the music on this TV special will just go on YouTube and Spotify for the songs I'd say.

Don't really know what to make of this yet. It makes sense of as a project but I'll need to know more before I get excited

As for the "Day debate" it's not from Dangerous, it's from This Place Hotel, "10 years ago today", then it ends with Dangerous vocals, that's why it sounds new

Day - ngerous

Nice catch, you're absolutely right! It's 'day' from '10 years ago today' mixed over the Dangerous background vocals.

I really didn't feel it was! But I'd never have placed it. Thank you! It just didn't sound clipped.

I see what you mean, but the /day/-part is is not from either Dangerous (the song) or Heartbreak Hotel. The singing technique used in the Dangerous song, especially in the chorus (Da-nge-rous) is different from the snippet (''day….'') in the trailer.

I know this because I have been analyzing and studying Michael Jackson's vocals extensively for over a decade.
To be precise, Michael Jackson sings the word 'dangerous' in one go, in one breath in the Dangerous song, whereas he let his breath slip away heavily as part of a singing technique in the snippet in the trailer.

So, what I'm saying is that the mysterious day-part is not from the song dangerous. The vocal must be from another (unreleased) song.

Your post is confusing. SmoothCriminal1995 didn't say it came from Dangerous?

I wonder if this is what Orianthi was working on?

Perhaps it is confusing, but I didn't say that SmoothCriminal1995 stated that it's from Dangerous. I just said, it's neither from Dangerous, like other people thought, or from Heartbreak Hotel, like SmoothCriminal1995 believed.

If you explain what's so confusing, I can explain what I mean ;)

Re: New Album Coming September 29? Posters Located in Germany

Sounds great.

I guess it could be a release to support the animated Halloween Special.

If it's an album with horror-themed song I think it will include songs like:

1. Thriller
2. Is It Scary
3. Ghosts
4. Little Susie
5. Scared of the Moon
6. Threatened
7. Blood on the Dancefloor - since it's in the trailer
8. Dangerous
9. Scream - since it's the album title
10. Somebody's Watching Me
11. 2 BAD

I don't think we should hope for new songs with this project (hope I'm wrong of course...) and I hope they have not mixed/changed the songs too much.

Don't forget about Off The Wall, with it's ghoulish intro.

Re: New Album Coming September 29? Posters Located in Germany

With regard to the whole "day" debate...

As Maja hinted at earlier, if you listen carefully you can clearly hear the whole word "Dangerous" with a heavy emphasis on the DAY and the rest of the word running really quietly in the background.

Re: New Album Coming September 29? Posters Located in Germany

Is an announcement likely at 0900 PDT?

Re: New Album Coming September 29? Posters Located in Germany

So what's the deal with Chicago 1945 being a bonus track? Some folks have found out Chicago 1945 being registered with bmi last week. See http://repertoire.bmi.com

BMI WORK# 20208893 being Chicago 1945
BMI WORK# 20208893 being last entry

Do we get it this time? Steve Porcaro said he won't block any release of it as long as the song itself won't be altered.

It definitely is the 'day' from Heartbreak Hotel, perhaps slightly pitched.
