Prince Michael Jackson Receives Youth Advocacy Award, Vows to Carry on Father's Charitable Legacy
Prince Michael Jackson was honored with the Motif Lifetime Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest honor in youth advocacy, on Sunday at the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, California, ET has exclusively learned.
The 21-year-old called the award -- which he received for his charity, Heal Los Angeles -- "an incredible honor" in his acceptance speech, before using much of his remaining time to pay tribute to his late father, Michael Jackson.
"This is a really special moment for me. My dad did some cool things, but his biggest passion was helping others," Prince said. "I learned how important that was from him. We called the foundation Heal L.A., because the goal was to further the cause of dad’s Heal the World organization and start locally by helping out at home."
The foundation, Prince explained, works to improve conditions in L.A. The idea for the charity came from Prince's college friend, John Muto, who was inspired by the late King of Pop's philanthropic work.
"John and I got together with a few of our friends at school and decided to do little things to help out," Prince said. "All of a sudden, it just got bigger and bigger. We were giving more and hosting more events, and all of these amazing people started helping."
He ended his speech with a promise that he's "not going to stop," before declaring, "Let's heal L.A. and Heal the World."
Back in 2016, ET caught up with Prince, where he said that he thinks his father "would be very happy" with his charitable efforts.
"Our generation, they focus on the wrong things, like, 'Who's wearing what? Who's doing what? Who's vacationing where?' There are real problems going on in the world that can be helped not by powerful people but by everyday people who just go in and devote their time," he said at the time. "You should be decent enough to help out or want to help out your fellow man or woman."

Lovely photos. I see that Prince wears a red string bead bracelet, the same as Paris'.....these must have belonged to their father, or maybe are replicas. Either way, it's a beautiful thing to see.

Prince Michael Jackson — the elder son of the late Michael Jackson — attended a Halloween party over the weekend with his girlfriend for a great cause.
Stepping out at the Dee Dee Jackson Foundation‘s 3rd Annual DDJF Costume for a Cause event, Jackson was dressed up as Jason from Friday the 13th as he opened up about his happy love life.
“I think in everything there’s an important balance,” he told PEOPLE exclusively. “I think that I’m a certain way, and she’s very — I don’t want to say opposite — but complementary in a way that we balance each other out. I’m more aggressive, she’s a little softer.”
Declining to reveal his girlfriend’s name, the 21-year-old said she “encourages” him to “see things through a different light” and vice versa. “It helps us stay well-rounded,” added Jackson
The couple often travel together and recently flew to Las Vegas to celebrate her birthday. Despite his high profile, Jackson said their favorite date nights are surprisingly normal: “She likes the beach. I like the movies!”
After losing his father at a young age, Jackson is now working to support other children who undergo traumatic experiences.
“This foundation is very important because it comes from an inspiration for my cousins that want to help kids that have gone through some serious or significant loss in their life,” he said. “Children are the future, of any generation and every generation. To make sure that they have the healthiest upbringing possible despite everything that happens in their life is really crucial.”
Jackson himself leaned on his family in the years following his father’s death in 2009 and also found solace in Michael’s love.
“My dad did such a great job raising us that he gave us the tools to succeed,” said Jackson. “Obviously, it was cut short and we didn’t get to learn as much as we should have, but he did give us enough to succeed on our own.”

Prince Michael Jackson — the elder son of the late Michael Jackson — attended a Halloween party over the weekend with his girlfriend for a great cause.
Stepping out at the Dee Dee Jackson Foundation‘s 3rd Annual DDJF Costume for a Cause event, Jackson was dressed up as Jason from Friday the 13th as he opened up about his happy love life.
“I think in everything there’s an important balance,” he told PEOPLE exclusively. “I think that I’m a certain way, and she’s very — I don’t want to say opposite — but complementary in a way that we balance each other out. I’m more aggressive, she’s a little softer.”
Declining to reveal his girlfriend’s name, the 21-year-old said she “encourages” him to “see things through a different light” and vice versa. “It helps us stay well-rounded,” added Jackson
The couple often travel together and recently flew to Las Vegas to celebrate her birthday. Despite his high profile, Jackson said their favorite date nights are surprisingly normal: “She likes the beach. I like the movies!”
After losing his father at a young age, Jackson is now working to support other children who undergo traumatic experiences.
“This foundation is very important because it comes from an inspiration for my cousins that want to help kids that have gone through some serious or significant loss in their life,” he said. “Children are the future, of any generation and every generation. To make sure that they have the healthiest upbringing possible despite everything that happens in their life is really crucial.”

As he prepares for Halloween, Prince Jackson is opening up about the strangeness of seeing people dress up as his late music icon dad, Michael Jackson, at this time of year.
The 21-year-old talked all things Halloween while chatting with ET at the third annual Dee Dee Jackson Foundation's Costume for a Cause at the Jackson Family Home in Encino, California, on Friday.
“It's definitely amazing because they want to continue on his tradition, his legacy, but sometimes they do it so well, it's a little shocking,” admitted Jackson, who co-founded the Heal Los Angeles charitable organization in honor of his father. “Like, whoa! [I’m] taken aback a little.”
“You mostly just have to smile, because it's coming from a place of love and admiration, so all I can do is have respect for that and really feel honored,” he added about how he reacts when he sees these costumes in person.
As for his own Halloween style, he aimed to portray Jason from Friday the 13th at the spooky bash.
“I'm dressed up as -- I'm pretty sure -- Jason from Friday the 13th. I don't want to get it wrong,” he said. “People, you know, they'll have you for it, if you mess up … especially my brother [Blanket]. That would be embarrassing.”
Jackson also reflected on some of his dad’s iconic costumes.
“’Thriller's obviously a classic because that just scared me so much as a kid,” he said. “And it worked so well, because with the video attached to it, you're like, ‘Is he gonna transform?’ You don't know what's gonna happen!”
“We all used to love Spider-Man, so we all used to dress up as Spider-Man together, so I have a lot of great memories of Spider-Man and superheroes like that,” he added.
Jackson opted not to coordinate outfits with his girlfriend for the Costume for a Cause event, explaining that he dresses up as “whatever my brother tells me to be,” while his ladylove was a pirate. The two celebrated their one-year anniversary earlier this year, but Jackson has kept her identity on the down low.
“We both kind of decided that she would like to remain anonymous for the most part, just because there's a lot of people that question a lot [and] pester a lot, so it becomes invasive,” Jackson explained. “So, we both decided it was good for her privacy.”
Outside of playing dress up and hanging with his significant other, Jackson is keeping busy as he works towards graduating from business administration school with a major in entrepreneurship, sharing how the success of his dad, who died eight years ago, prompted his choice of study.
“Business is very important in everyday life,” he said. “It's important for making big decisions that I have to, because of my father's inheritance. Also, my decisions to do with non-profit, or even business that I want to do. I just think that it's something I can use to help people make better decisions in their life and hopefully give them the tools to succeed.”
He also remains dedicated to his philanthropic work, having co-founded Heal Los Angeles (an organization which aims to end child abuse, homelessness and hunger,) and being awarded a Motif Lifetime Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest honor in youth advocacy, last month.
“As I'm getting older and really growing and learning as a person, I think the philanthropy part of me that my dad taught us all as children, is very essential and crucial to who I am,” he said. “I think, as of now, the only way I see my life really progressing forward, is through that.”
“[With] Heal L.A., we're trying to move it so we can do bigger and greater things,” he added. “But, I don't like to talk about things a lot, I mostly like to let the work show for itself, surprise people with it.”
