Rare Pictures Thread

I took this photo on a beautiful sunday, july 26th 1992, in the ride #piratesofthecaribbean …

It wasn’t my first visit of the park and this ride was one of my favorite. This time, I was with my little brother and I offered him the ticket entrance for his birthday. When it was our turn to sat down in the small boat, I heard screams. I thought that there was a french celebrity around, but never I could imagine that it was…Michael !! He was in Europe, going from one country to another with his Dangerous Tour, and he decided to visit during three days, for the first time, the new park that Disney opened the same year, #eurodisney. When I turned my head and saw him, I was totally amaze. I couldn’t believe my eyes. And I had one thought : I wanted to take a photo. So I did something forbidden, I stood up in the boat to have a better point of view, and pushed the button of my camera. But something went wrong with the flash, it didn’t want to work. And I was trying to take my photo, again and again. The security staff began to yell at me to sit down, Michael looked in my direction and seemed embarrassed, and I was too. But, stubborn as I am, I finally could take my photo ! As you can imagine, I didn’t pay attention to the ride, at all. I was continuously looking back, trying to see Michael. I could see him showing to his nephew the skeleton and the treasure at the end of the ride, without his sunglasses, when the boats are getting closer. And when he left the ride by a door only used by the cast members.

There wasn’t many ways for Michael to get out of the ride. But depending of his direction, deeper in #adventureland or in Fantasyland, I would have a chance to see him again, or not. Fortunately, after a wait of around ten minutes, I saw Michael and his bodyguards coming right in my direction !

I couldn’t believe my eyes when Michael came so close to me that I could see his face in detail ! At that time, tabloids were full of stupidities like “Michael’s nose is falling”. What I could see was a charismatic face that looked even better than on the photos. He was wearing a very natural make-up, his nose was not falling at all, he was just fabulous. People all around were stunned. Obviously, he was enjoying his visit, waving and smiling to the other visitors. Many of them were screaming when they realised that he was really here, that it wasn’t a lookalike. He continued his way towards the Captain Hook’s Galley, where he stayed for a while, before heading towards Frontierland.
Michael was heading towards Frontierland. Following him became difficult as, in addition to the ring of bodyguards, more and more fans were around him. When the group crossed the bridge close to the Swiss Family Treehouse, I could only see the back of Michael’s hat, I was stucked behind the group. Thankfully, I knew the park very well. I took another way and run till a point where I was sure Michael would passed by. I stopped at the Fuente Del Oro restaurant and it was a good decision. Michael appeared in front of me. Despite the bodyguards, I could get really close to him and even walked a few seconds just next to him. I could see his eyes behind his sunglasses and hear his soft voice. He said something I didn’t understand to his nephew (I didn’t speak english at that time), I was literally mesmerized. I could take photos but I didn’t ; I could try to have an autograph but had no pen. Walking beside him and enjoying this particular moment was enough, I didn’t want to disturb him in any way, it has been my reaction. A weird reaction for some fans, I guess. One of his bodyguards pushed me gently away from Michael, he was going to Big Thunder Mountain, where the group entered by the exit. Fifteen minutes later, I saw a train coming out from a tunnel, Michael was onboard. It was the end of the ride.

After Big Thunder Mountain, Michael quickly entered the Phantom Manor. With a lot of visitors, I waited for maybe twenty minutes, but he did not reappear. Obviously, he stopped his visit at this attraction. So, with my young brother, we could continue our visit of the park normally. Or almost normally. I was totally stunned by everything that had happened in the last hour, I could not believe that I saw Michael here, in Euro Disney, and that I had the chance to be so close to him !
We spent the next two hours enjoying the park and having fun in many rides until around 6.30pm. And guess what happened next … Yes, he was back in the park !!! We were close to the Carroussel de Lancelot when we heard shouts coming from the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs ride. This time, some people have become crazy, I mean really crazy. I saw some of them jumping over the fences, walking on the flowers, pushing visitors, crying, they would do anything to get close to Michael. It was literally histeria. Michael appeared, protected by around ten bodygards, coming out of Snow White and headed to the dark ride Les Voyages de Pinocchio.

Protected by one ring of around ten bodygards and a second ring of cast members, Michael went into the dark ride “Les Voyages de Pinocchio”, then headed to another famous dark ride, and probably his favorite, “Peter Pan’s Flight”. I tried to follow him from ride to ride but it was really difficult as there was so many fans around the group. Many people became hysterical when they saw him. I think I’ve never seen reactions like that since then. Only Michael could turn people that crazy when he was in public. So I decided to walk ahead the group and stop from time to time to take photos. That way, I was sure that I could always have Michael in front of me. Thankfully, I’m very tall, so I could have a pretty good view on him despite of all the people that surrounded him.

After making the “Peter Pan’s Flight” attraction, Michael came back in my direction and, once again, passed very close to where I was. He turned right, towards the castle, and I thought that he was returning to his hotel, the Disneyland Hotel. So I decided to follow him again with my young brother. I was a few meters behind him and I could only see the back of his hat. With all his bodyguards and the ring of cast members that isolated the group from the fans, Michael entered the castle. I heard someone saying “it can’t be him, it’s a look-alike! It can’t be him!”. The group walked fast enough, which confirmed that Michael was heading for his hotel. He was almost on Main Street. To be continued…

I guess it must be the Dangerous Tour, since he's using that pink microphone, but I didn't think his hair was this wildly curly on the Dangerous Tour. :)

It is Dangerous tour because it's Dangerous tour clothes lol

haha=that would have been an easy guess, then. Lol. But the picture of him in his Billie Jean Jacket made it hard to figure out-all you can see in that pix were black sequins. Good eye spotting the pink microphone.

Ohhhh ok.. I had to go back and check because I thought people were wondering if the picture with the leotard was the Bad tour, I did think it was a bit odd LOL

I love these kind of little stories behind pictures.

Via Greta Gaines: A polaroid photo from 1981 with my 2 brothers, my mother and me with Michael Jackson. Story behind it: “My father Charles Gaines help start the film commission in New Hampshire circa 1979. The first feature film to be made there was "On Golden Pond” in 1980. Jane Fonda’s biggest fan at the time, was a young Michael Jackson who had recently released his eponymous “Off The Wall” album. He came to the film’s wrap party…
Michael was the nicest person I have ever met probably still to this day. He emanated LOVE and danced with us all night long, He joyfully agreed to take this precious polaroid with us.
