Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (First Film in the STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY Series)

Spoilers!

I think Vader's suit was really well done. The helmet wasn't polished and the eyes were reddish just like in the 1977 Star Wars. Also I liked that pun he delivered. It reminded me of the "Apology accepted Captain Needa" line from The Empire Strikes Back.

Spoilers!

I rewatched it and I'm fine with the pun now, especially once I remembered the "Apology accepted, Captain Needa" scene! Fits in just fine :)

Rogue One was a solid 8/10 for me. Very, very good movie with some absolutely excellent fight sequences (particularly the last five minutes - those of you who have seen it know EXACTLY what I'm talking about).

I don't have any substantial problems with it, but something in the back of my mind keeps telling me that it COULD have been better. More character development more often than not.

Nonetheless, a great entry in the universe.

Side note: K2SO is the best addition to the lore in years.

I saw the movie again few days ago. I decided to rewatch the original Star Wars yesterday to see how well it works after seeing Rogue One. It was the original theatrical version that came with the 2006 DVD. For some reason it's non anamorphic widescreen so there are black bars on every side if you watch it on a modern tv. Luckily I still have an old 4:3 TV that I can use so it wasn't a big problem.

Gareth Edwards recently said that he saw a new 4K restoration of it:

Please be the original version so we can finally get it on Blu-Ray.

Google Harmy's Despecialised Editions. I usually just watch the Special Edition (most changes don't bother me) but Harmy has done an excellent job of "restoring" the films by mixing footage from the Blu-rays and other sources to recreate the "original versions" that came out back in the 70s and 80s. With the 2006 DVD, aside from the letterbox issues, the transfer itself is particular bad with ghosting in it too... I think it was due to some horrible early '90s DNR techniques.

It'd be cool if the new restorations essentially took the originals, touched up the effects that were already there (as the special editions have done) whilst leaving major modifications alone (so no Jabba deleted scene in ANH, no Greedo shooting etc).

I have been thinking about seeing the Despecialised Editions but I fear they might feel too fanmade. They might look right but you can't get rid of that feeling. A release with all the versions would be awesome. You could decide which changes to keep. I like the new Wampa shots in ESB and the new celebration music in ROTJ.

Give it a try. The whole point was to essentially recreate the original theatrical editions as they were released back in '77-'83, I've glimpsed at them and they've done a really good job with making it feel like the original releases, going as far as to colour grade it as it was upon release.

This video explains it well

Actually they changed it already for the 1981 re-release. They added the Episode IV A New Hope subtitle. :)

Not even that. The first changes to Star Wars happened all the way back in June 1977, a mere 6 weeks after it's release, where a new mono mix was created. This new mono mix had a number of changes, different sound effects and even different takes of dialogue. Many future mixes opted to keep some of these changes too.

I'm aware they altered ANH in 1981 to include "Episode IV" in the opening crawl, but the Harmy edition doesn't include "Episode IV" for A New Hope because it's designed to recreate the original 1977 release of ANH as authentically as possible, as with TESB and ROTJ and their original releases respectively.

I loved it (seen it twice) was impressed how it links onto Star Wars: A New Hope (1977) as well as watching Darth Vadar being a total badass, along with CGI Princess Leia Grand Moff Tarkin scenes looking amazing. 4 out of 5 (y)

i saw the movie. You know after so many days with the critics etc. i have only one thing to say......DARTH VADER RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
