Some of you probably read Elton John's book, know about the chapter where talks about Michael, and that dinner at his house soon after he and David Furnish started dating. It's very consistent to this 1994 Barbara Walters interview he gave, where I've skipped to the part where they discuss Michael.»Didn't write most of his songs« – are you kidding? The guy’s an absolute star. You’re making a mountain out of a molehill with that Elton quote. Michael and Elton understood and respected each other very much (see the Blood on the Dance Floor dedication).
Walters broached Michael with Elton again 10 years later:
Keep in mind, I obviously wasn't necessarily saying a message of saying I agreed fully with Elton's comments to Walters.
Of course, remember, Elton doesn't outright demonize Michael either, and even admits "I don't know the story." He just says, "If that was me, I would've fought like hell," and he talks about his past experience fighting the false allegations brought against him by The Sun. Of course it probably would reflect better if Elton did learn more about Michael's case, but he's certainly not required to, and he has his own life to live.
It's also notable, however, that Michael dedicated Blood On The Dance Floor to Elton and considered him a friend because of those horrible days of him withdrawing from the painkillers. Much the same way Michael still considered Paul and Linda McCartney to be friends of his even long after they'd stopped having contact with each other.
