Tired of seeing Talented/Gorgeous Female artist looking like Soft Porn star's!

^^^^^Again, what is played a lot on the radio has a lot to do with payola.

How about acts like Madonna or Grace Jones, who chose their image? Madonna made the Sex book or made a video having a boy go to a peep show (Open Your Heart), or another one about making out with Jesus (Like A Prayer, which got her fired from Pepsi). Her record company didn't have anything to do with these. It was her ideas. Everyone isn't told to dress a certain way, some choose that themselves. There's males who sell a sex image like LL Cool J, Teddy Pendergrass, David Lee Roth, Tom Jones, Prince, etc. And many other guys sing sexual songs, way more than other subjects. What's the difference?

yes Madonna loves being sexy so does the wonderful Prince. but they chose it. a man doesnt HAVE to do that if hes in the music industry to be huge, but awoman, more often then not, does. how is that fair? what if you dont want to be a piece of meat for men to drool over?

this topic has always discusted me beyond words. the music out there isnt about the tallent anymore, its just about the money and about what ppl want. way back when it was of corse still about money, but you actually had some awesome tallent. now its mostly not that. with the exeption of Alicia Keys, Talor Swift and others who where amazingly enough able to do it.

ugh. pisses me off!

Talented AND gorgeous female artists wear revealing clothes for different reasons: 1) to make more money. You get magazine covers and photoshoots thanks to your body. Kind of a side job to make you keep up with your expensive habits. You earn more money to spend on your Gucci bags and Prada shoes, etc. 2) to "express" themselves. "I love myself!" type of females. Those women who are comfortable enough to show off their bodies. 3) to appeal to more people feeling the indirect pressure from within themselves and/or direct pressure from those who they work for and with. 4) possible combinations of any of the 3 mentioned above.

What I really hate to see in female artists is to act fake like, you got only no.1 on your mind but say no.2 to look and sound nice. What I really really hate is talentless females whore themselves up to end up falling into the music business and pretend to be a singer i.e. Cassie.

Alicia Keys got over pretty big, and there were rumors of her being lesbian because she wore very dark, sometimes drab and goth-looking clothes. Many country stars don't look porn stars and many of them are pretty huge. I don't think you need to do that in this day and age, I think many of them choose it because they think it will help them.

Glad to see the participation in this thread still moving and active.

Duranduran is giving us a harsh but revealing lesson in how the music business must work, its not the first time some of your points have been explored before and mentioned before when I or someone I know have engaged in this very topic. Thanks for your input DuranDuran. We don't see it the same completely, but thats not the point. Appreciate your insight very much.
Here's what I know about what you mentioned in regard to white artist being on the cover
of black artist record long years ago. That was because the record label REFUSED to put any black faces on their covers. They thought the record wouldn't sell if young white kids and their families knew the artist were black(this was in the 50's and 60's), many true life stories(movies, biopics) of artist from that time have all had this be part of their true life story-this is a totally different subject matter than what we are originally posting-maybe this could be something we can explore later?, lol. I know I've said that earlier, lol.
Something elese about the Oversexed, female sex symbol artist, did you guys know that alot of them are told by the executives in charge of their singing career's to not reveal in interviews during the height of their career about being married or having a child? It's true! I learned about that from female artist back in the day. These female artist who are all much older now and haven't had a commercial record out have said in interviews only years and years later of how the executives told them in meetings; it would ruin their music career and they wouldnt be looked at as a sex symbol any longer if it were out that they had a child, or that they were married. When they signed the contract they apparently were childless and unmarried. Their personal lives had changed but the record company executives didnt want their image to.
Singer Jody Whately is one of the most visible female singers that comes to mind, she briefly talked about this during a tv interview years ago.
There are a few others but I can't remember them now.

I feel that back then if you were a female artist and you didn't show skin, you were "unmarketable" and not just showing skin, you had to be sexy and pretty so if they have talent it gets overlooked until years later when you hear the songs discovering almost too late there was more to the female artist than tits and ass. That's why I have more respect for Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Billie Holiday and the like whose music mattered more than their looks (though it didn't hurt in Diana's case). And today, you see female artists who don't show a lot of skin. It was more common a few years ago tho.

Troubleman, I believe some record labels and their executive's currently have or are telling these female artist that they would be deemed "Unmarketable" if they didnt reveal more and more skin in their videos.

And as duranduran pointed out, I also believe the female artist who don't play this game won't get the financial backing as the female singer who "pimps" herself.

Even the late great actress Katherine Hepburn said: Show Buisness is about "prostituting oneself". She was right.

Yep! The sad reality of the music industry when it comes to the marketing and promotion of the female artist.

It could be worse, they could get the old "casting couch" that is common in the acting field

DuranDuran, Unfortunately the "casting couch" isn't just limited to actresses of the past or present for that matter. Just ask the fans of Jennifer Lopez, Christina Auguliera(sp) and Joss Stone. There have been rumors about them for years. It went even further for JLo, word leaked about a sex tape it was so bad whenever she was on the red carpet, she was being asked about it. She had to get herself a lawyer or two.

Sex sells right now, unfortunately, and in this age, you don't necessarily have to have talent if you have a good body and flaunt it. It just shows how much downhill music has gone.

There's a difference between being slutty and being sexy, and unfortunately, a lot of current artists don't know the difference.
