Westlake Recording Studios offers tour to MJ Fans June [Update] New Tours for 2013

Re: So I ended up going there. It was worth every cent.

The Thriller Studio Tour was an experience of a lifetime, it was absolutely one of the brightest highlights of my trip to LA! Morinen, you did an excellent job describing what the tour was like, thank you. I couldn't have done it any better. I don't really have much to add to your vivid story, so I'm just going to add a few more pics.

The studios were very cosy and the atmosphere relaxing. Almost felt like walking into a spa.

What kind of a recording studio would it be without a candy counter?

Q's office, with the shower. Standing in that shower cabin I couldn't resist singing BAD while clapping my hands. I could imagine Michael doing the exact same thing at the exact same spot. Surreal!

Just doing our job. ;) You can see me in the middle (white Bad t-shirt) very focused at what I'm doing.

Michael's stage.

The studio staff calls this room "Bubbles room" because when Michael was doing his vocals, they used to lock Bubbles in here and he was going wild. Maybe the popcorn was his doing ;)

The window, indeed, looks over the recording room downstairs.

The window was there so that Bubbles could see Michael when he was recording. How cute is that? :)

But if you have a chance to go next year or whenever they continue the tour, go. You won't regret it.

I concur!! I'd take this tour again if I had the chance, it was worth every cent.

Briefly peeked into this industrial-looking back lot on one of the side streets. What for, you might ask? Apparently, here, under the "Free Delivery" banner is a great historic attraction related to MJ. Guess what it is!

This shady wall is the very wall from the Off The Wall album cover! The owner of the property happened to be not so sensitive to the culture and bluntly painted out the historic heritage with ugly grey.

Hi, I want to ask a question about OFF THE WALL cover art

I saw:

and http://boards.mjjunderground.com/topic/2543-mike-salisbury-the-man-behind-the-white-socks-and-glove/#

The stories said The first attempt was at the Hollywood Planetarium, the Griffith Observatory.

In an urban alley against an old wall of real brick, I directed Michael to be more animated in his pose. And I told him to smile. Voila!…Off the Wall. Perhaps after the Great Wall and the Berlin Wall, one of the most famous walls in the world. A wall I picked to be our backstage alley door of a Broadway theatre (New York or LA also has Broadway?)

Could you tell me more about the exact location, and what can prove it is OFF THE WALL wall? do you have better and clearer photos of it or an introduction texts on the wall or on some official websites?

Thanks very much

Maybe I can help somewhat. The way the text is written is a little confusing.

They were shooting in Hollywood. Not New York. First at Griffith Park then at Steve Harveys Studio. It wasnt working. Then they found a wall in an urban back alley. The photographer is saying he picked an urban real brick wall in a back alley .. to be (portray) a backstage door on Broadway for the photo. Not that the photo was taken at back stage door on Broadway. He just used that brick wall to depict one for the photo.

I also saw the wall where the picture was taken. The wall is in the back of a store located on Beverly Blvd just West of N. Genesee Avenue if my memory serves me correctly. There was the wall which was painted grey, and we did not see any picture with the photographer and the original wall. I believe that is where the picture was taken as it is so close to one of the studios.

I think I will take a ride back over there to check it out since I will have more time to see it.

Maybe this video will help?

The location is 7771 Beverly Blvd., in the rear of the pharmacy. Steve Harvey Photography is at 7801 Beverly Blvd.

I took some photos back in early 2011 there. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.215564425157857.49011.183185721729061&type=3

Go put your tux on and have fun posing there!

Yes I emailed Westlake and they responded advising they would be scheduling tours again this year.

I have booked my tickets. I am very grateful. I went last year and you really got a feel Michael's energy and creativity while in the studio. I can't wait.
