Soo hard to pick! Well this at time my favorites are:
1. Threatened
2. Unbreakable
3. Ghosts
4. They Don't Care About Us
5. Speechless

I know this is only from 1995-2001, but I sometimes like listening the "newer" stuff more. Almost all MJ songs are great on their own way of course.
 
It's hard to make a definitive list of favorite MJ music, but here's my picks:

1. Butterflies - Such a slow and sensual song
2. Fly Away - Also very calm, and every instrument is so good to listen.
3. Break of Dawn - Makes my mind space out whenever I hear this track again.
4. This is It (Orchestra Version) - At the same time, feels a little sad, but empowering.
5. Love Never Felt So Good (Xscape Version) -Very uplifting and catchy.

At the moment it would look something like that, but it changes on a weekly basis depending on my mood. Billie Jean is an absolute lock at number 1 though.
 
Very hard, so I will just choose the best that come to mind, no doubt when this is complete, there willbe one or more songs
I have missed out. Like Scream said, when his back catalogue is flawless, it is hard to pick just 5 songs.

It's easy with other artists, as they have more varied output like a certain other African American megastar who died this year, but not

Already seeing your lists after doing mine, it is like I have missed out several obvious songs like

But Billie Jean is always the number one, that song is to MJ, what When Doves Cry is to someone else.
 
Depending on my mood, there's certain songs I like to go back to. For instance, Scream or TDCAU I listen to when I'm angry, and when I'm sad I'll put on WYBT or YANA.

But my ultimate top 5 would be
1. Black or White (which might have something to do with the fact that I absolutely love the short film)
2. You Rock My World
3. Blood On The Dancefloor
4. Give In To Me
5. Remember The Time

I wish that he had more song at the level of this one
It is annoyingly underrated though
3. Stranger in Moscow another classic absolutely beautiful and perfect with a touching lyrics
4. Unbreakble I was actually wanted to put working day and night here but this song disevers to be here because it doesn't get attention like working and for me they both on the same lever definitely chould have been the lead single from invisible
5. Maybe tomorrow a Jackson 5 masterpiece
