Yes, they are.

It is not just a lot of other people who say that (including Janet Jackson), but there are also some other strong indicators that back this up.

Firstly, Janet Jackson has no reason at all to lie about that.

Secondly, look for example at the Motown Records’ timeline of events, when Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson (as the lead singer of The Jackson 5 band) were signed to the label.

Stevie Wonder was only 11-years-old when Motown Records signed him to a contract (in 1961).

Michael Jackson was only 10-years-old when Motown Records signed him to a contract (in 1968).

Although founder and owner of Motown Records Berry Gordy did not like to have young bands consisted of kids signed to his label, yet he proceeded to sign Michael Jackson (and The Jackson 5) to his label.

It seems to have played an important role in The Jackson 5’s signing to the label the fact that Stevie Wonder was a relative (third cousin) to the members of The Jackson 5 band.

And it is no secret at all how much easier it becomes to sign a contract to a label, when a relative of yours is already signed to the same label.
